Is Champions Online using some sort of experimental video system?
When I started to Play CO in Beta, I was running an ATI Radeon HD 3450 which ran City of Heroes ok, but forced me to drop all my video setting to the ablsolute rock bottom in Champions Online. The game looked worse then an online web game from the late 90's.
So, I now have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 1 Gig of ram. And still I have to run the game with my vid settings at the ablsolute rock bottom. When I try higher settings it slows my game play noticeably. However even on the lowest settings I struggle through populated zones.
Now I figure my lag issues might be my motherboard/cpu but I can't help but notice that no matter what setting I use with my video I see really strange things going on in game. Things like:
- player characters running around with segment of their bodies missing (invisible)
- NPCs also with invisible body parts.
-My power up bar often a solid white rather then the graphic that lets me know when I've maxed out on a charge.
-User interface with solid white blocky areas where some sort of graphic should be, like control buttons
- contacts totally missing except for the question/exclamation mark floating over them. (question mark floating over nothing)
Its very much like these things just need time to catch up. I approach an invisible contact and if I wait long enough they eventually become visible, and usually in segments rather then all at once.
Nothing like this happens when I play City of Heroes (for clarity, I'm not using City of Heroes as means to trash Champions Online.) Infact I've played WoW, for a short time, and also Guild Wars and none of them had anything as weird as the video whackyness I see in Champions Online.
Is Champions using some sort of new experimental video system? I figure a ATI Radeon HD 4850 with 1 Gig of ram should be decent enough to stabilize my video issues.
I've got the same card, try new drivers for it from ATI.
whats your other system specs?
Motherboard: MSI MS-7093
Ram: 2.6 Gigs
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939)
Core Speed: 1790.9 MHz
North Bridge: ATI Xpress 200 (RS480) rev. 00
South Bridge: ATI SB400 rev. 00
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD Version 6.00 PG
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)
DirectX version: 9.0c
I also have an Athlon 64 3000+ (can't remember what scocket), but have a radon HD 3850 512MB and have very simular problems. I also find that the landscape can take a while to catch up too.
In fact all textures and objects seam to take ages to load on to sceen.
