So this solution may be suboptimal for some, but the intent of this post is to inform people that the following worked for me (just in case you were scared like I was of even trying it.) I bought a 6 month subscription and am actually playing now.
If you are like me and thought "I'm already mad, if doing a 6 month still doesn't get me in, I'm going to do something awful"; you may want to know that it indeed gets you into the head start.
If you meet the following criteria...
1. If you aren't completely ticked off about Direct2Drive not being in the head start or anything else and
2. think you may play for 6 months or
3. you have the cash kicking it and don't mind blowing the money even if you quit after 2 weeks...
...Then feel free to do the subscription thing. If you don't meet the aforementioned criteria, please don't use this post as a dumping ground for your anger, put it in one of the other snarky threads (which will most likely be locked and archived away soon.)
To Cryptic: I would have given you my subscription anyway, you don't have to resort to fine print to get it out of me under misleading circumstances and abyssmal user experience...
ok if i read it right
i have a direct to drive paid champions online download
and i have been in open beta im not elegable for the head start ?
it says this
Champion's Online Please click the download button to retrieve your key.
8/19/09 Champion's Online Pre-Order Bonus and Beta Access Please click the download button
to retrieve your
but the download key for champions online just says preodered
are servers down or is that my problem ?
Apparently there was fine print that said that we Direct2Drive customers aren't eligible for Headstart.
Trust me, I was livid, especially considering that when I clicked the "Buy" link on the champions website that was the first option I saw.
This discussion has been going on all day. The answer to those of us who didnt buy the game from a sponsored vendor because of misinformation before the retail page changed on the 23rd is to pay Cryptic more money. Most of us arent willing, given the customer service so far, to give them $60 just to play a few days early.
Not me I bought a valid pre -order with headstart. I did not use an exploit of the 6 month to get it.
I seriously doubt Cryptic is trying to exclude D2D customers, therefore this isn't an exploit. In fact there are several other posts saying that people that did the subscription in Beta were playing now.
My trepidation came from not knowing whether or not it applied in headstart. I tried it, it worked.
Cryptic is getting guaranteed revenue, which by it's very nature discounts this as an exploit.
