I have read the overview and the ordinance guide and I just don't get it.
I have done tons of crafting in other games but I can't seem to break into the "oh now it makes sense" part of learning bout how crafting works in this game.
I get these parts
Pick a profession
Gather reagents
take reagents to table and create the crafted items
I don't know what the overall advantage any of the crafts have over another one. So I thought I would cut to the chase and just ask what is best for the 2 stats I am interested in improving the most for this one character.
From what I can tell, choose whichever suits your character. If what I read from the Crafting guides is correct, the differences are only apparent until the mid 20s are so, and then you can start crafting custom items with the stats you want on them. I may have read that wrong however. For Dex/Ego (I assume you are Munitions), the "best" as they are labeled are Mystical for Ego and Science for Dex. But I went Arms/Ordinance for my character, mainly because he uses military grade weaponry, and I want those power replacers in Arms to reflect that.
So what profession you pick and then what you specialize in that profession is purely flavor text for your characters personally made up background and has no bearings on the stats at all VS each other is what you are saying right?
They all basically create the same stuff, just have different names attached to them, right?
If you have a look at the stats given in the big fat info list the best one is arms as all but one item type can have either dex or ego on it. The others are a close second with 1 less ego/dex granting item.

Utility Major: 1) INT, 2) END, 3) EGO
Defense Minor: 1) INT, 2) END, 3) EGO
Offense Minor: 1) REC, 2) DEX, 3) CON
Are my 3 best from each tree Utility, Def, Off
And those all come from science
I didn't really know what that list meant before now, so with STR on low priority for DEX/EGO those are the 3 things I will want to craft at some point?
Edit: just noticed the major and minor... I don't know if that means you can have both a major and a minor but if it does then yeah arms comes out ahead.
If you can only have one from either, and I assume major would be the better one as far as number of stat points that are given. Then arms and science balance out with arms being equal in ego and dex and science favoring ego over dex with the same amounts in both professions just distributed differently.
Is this analysis correct, and when I look for other stats like END/INT or whatever I can use the above counting method to see what profession is best?
Major/Minor means the slots they go into on your character. Essentially your just crafting better versions of th eitems you get from mssions and as loot.
K but can you equip both for each catagory, or just one

You have 9 slots for upgrades in total.
1 for each Primary and 2 for each Secondary. Note that Major and Minor refers to the enhancements available and not the upgrades themselves.
A Primary upgrade will have both a Major and a Minor enhancement. A Secondary upgrade will only have a Minor enhancement. When you're making Custom crafts, you get to select the Minor and Major enhancements from the pool available to you (ie. the ones available at your skill level that you've bought).

Don't feel bad, I think there are less than 10 players in the headstart that actually grasp the crafting system

this player being one that does not.
Ok so for Munitions they DON"T recommend Arms for crafting in the info when you talk to a trainer (which sounds weird as Arms and Munitions go hand in hand in real life)
but are you all saying that for a Munitions character (dex/ego) that Arms IS the best?

Mystic is best for normal upgrades due to having a heavier weight of DEX/EGO than Science and Arms, Arms is best for Power Replaces if you want new costume pieces.

Where are you getting these numbers to make the comparisons?

Guess I had it totally wrong then. My apologies.
