UNITY Missions issue?

New-ish player here.
It appears to me that there are some missions that just disappear from my mission tracker, after taking them, such as Big Shoes to Follow. In so doing, I can't complete the UNITY Overwatch Hotspots missions, and so they sit in my to-do list forever until I drop them.
Is this because they are timed and just remove themselves if you fail to start them within that timeframe?
It seems like such a gameplay feature would cut down on player participation in these missions.
