Crash during Franklin Stone Penthouse Alert

Almost every time I try to do the Franklin Stone Penthouse alert for the event daily, once I've taken the elevator up and attempt to enter one of the Magpie vehicles for the last stage, I instantly get a CTD followed by a massive (1.6 GB) error report. When I relaunch the game my character is in the vehicle, but still inside the penthouse. When I take the elevator up again I exit the elevator and can enter a vehicle and go to the roof, but unless I had immediately closed the error report and jumped back in game, I do not get credit for the alert and have to try again. And I get the crash again. I have to cancel the error report and immediately jump back into game to get credit for the alert for the daily.

I've never encountered that error myself, but then, CO does love breaking in different ways for each individual person.

I would advise not using any of the vehicles to start with. Unless you're intentionally building your character badly and playing them badly, those vehicles will underperform compared to whatever you can do on foot, and they're incredibly buggy as well. Instead, interact with the box to the far left of the vehicles on the deck to pick up a temporary hover disk TP device if you don't already have a flight power of your own to use.

With that said, you're probably going to get asked to do a few things to test and see what causes the crash. Play through the alert without a vehicle, turn on-demand patching on or off (usually off,) verify the integrity of your game cache, and finally, reinstall the entirety of the game if the issue persists (for that you can back up your saved costumes by going to your game's directory > Champions Online > Live > Screenshots and copying everything out of there before you wipe everything if that matters.)
The fact that the forums refuse to tell you how close you are to the character/post size limit until you attempt to post something that happens to be too big- and the automated spam filter will immediately completely lock you out of posting long-term if you attempt to post or edit posts too close to the character limit- is genuine agony.

This is my cry for help
  • Did all that, even re-installed on a completely different drive (SATA SSD to M.2), still crashes. My main I'm doing the event on is a melee tank, so not sure how effective using the device would be.
  • Alright, I've tried the alert a couple times using the device rather than one of the vehicles the alert tells you to use. No crash (which is good) but my particular build is pretty much useless during the fight. Biting and clawing at a giant armored jet is... lackluster to say the least. But at least I can complete the alert without a crash, so I guess I'll take what I can get. Just very curious what specifically is causing the crash.

Actually, biting and clawing the franklin stone jet does far more damage than those provided vehicles.
