Dr. Cyberbolt

sgtken60sgtken60 Posts: 254 Arc User
It has been a while since requested some help with a build, but I have new FF slot so here goes - Meet Dr. Cyberbolt (Picture attached). He still in the starting zone, but my basic idea is a Power Armour/Lighting combo with good survivable but still able to help in groups (I mainly play solo and join up in events) 8yfzida6nizy.jpg

So, any help would be very helpful. Thanks, a head of time.

Well, if you want to be survivable and play mostly solo, then you could go the safer route w/ a Hybrid-dps build using a defensive passive. It'll deal significantly lower dmg than a normal dps build, but you will be much more sturdy (it's also pretty easy to convert most Hybrid-dps builds to normal dps ones by using one of the DPS roles and an offensive passive instead). Here's one example of mixing Elec and PA (going for non-slotted PA here, since it doesn't deal w/ power lockouts nor take as much energy management):

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform (Hybrid)
    v3.45:38

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Recovery (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Scourge (Con: 10, Ego: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
Level 6: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)
    Level 9: Worldly (Ego: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 12: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 15: Daredevil (Ego: 5, End: 5)
Level 18: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 21: Ascetic (Con: 5, Ego: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Power Bolts
Level 1: Rocket Punch (Rank 2, Grasping Hand)
    Level 6: Concentration
Level 8: *Invulnerability (Rank 2, Rank 3) (*or get Regeneration, Rank2&3)
    Level 11: Ionic Reverberation
Level 14: Ball Lightning (Rank 2, Triplicity)
    Level 17: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 20: Lightning Arc (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Energy Wave (Rank 2, Reverse Polarity)
    Level 26: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Energy Shield (Rank 2)
    Level 32:
    Level 35:
    Level 38:
    Adv. Points: 28/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
    Ego: Insight (3/3)
    Ego: Follow Through (3/3)
    Ego: Sixth Sense (2/3)
    Guardian: Fortified Gear (3/3)
    Guardian: Ruthless (2/2)
    Guardian: Find the Mark (3/3)
    Guardian: The Best Defense (2/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

The open power slots can be used for w/e ya want.

For AoE, charged Rocket Punch can be your main attack, while Energy Wave (at least half-charged) can help group up mobs for an easier time AoE'ing them down, and Ball Lit can be thrown in for Ionic Reverb's extra energy and for some extra dmg. For single-targets, you'll also want to keep Ball Lit up, and channeling LArc is your main attack. Gears mostly for Ego, w/ some Rec and Con.

Also, either Regen or Invuln could work well as the defensive passive here, so pick one of them to your liking. Lastly, if you wanted to make this more of a dps build, then you'd want to switch to using the Ranged DPS role, and prob to using Night Warrior as the slotted passive (and you don't have to use its stealth-related effects if you don't want to).

You could go completely crazy and make a dual passive build. Just slap Night Warrior in there and good to go.

Thanks Flow, I actually got him out of the starting area, so I will have to retrain him a bit. BTW my Heavy Axe guy you help me set up still kicks butt.

    Thank you both

Well I think I will go this route with Dr. Cyberbolt - Use Hybrid most of the time, unless teamed up switch to the Ranged DPS role, not sure if the Chest Beam fits but I like the idea so far.

In the future, I'd try to include the link when exporting from the PH Planner- it makes potentially editing stuff easier. Anyways, the edited build looks mostly okay, though I'd prob move a rank from the block into R3 of NW. If using a dual passive build, you usually want to get both passives to R3. Anyways, I suppose Chest Beam can debuff for Rocket Punch here and/or be used for its narrow burst AoE, though I also wouldn't put it as a high priority to have here, since the build still focuses on LArc for single-targets (and Chest Beam doesn't debuff for Elec dmg).

@flowcyto Oh sorry I was at work so I must pasted it wrong. So what you recommend? I do not have much high in stuff i.e. powers and with CO Wiki gone I am not sure what links to what anymore.

Maybe this then? I am pretty sure the Support Drones are not linked to LArc but if fits my idea of the mad scientist.

Well, the drones are also not that important, outside of perhaps pet-focused builds, and they can be killed pretty easily in harder content. That said, they are a decent source of extra healing in easier content, so you can keep them if they fit the look well.

If you do want to debuff specifically for LArc, then you can get source of the Superconductor (SC) debuff, like Chain Lit w/ its SC adv or Electrocute w/ its SC adv (the former requires you to put up NI first, but the latter is limited to 50ft and has to be fully charged). If taking the SC debuff, then you'll also want the 1pt refresh adv for it on Ball Lit (perhaps dropping R2 for it).

I will note that in the Aura section of the current Nighthawk event there is a nice little floating drone aura (like the fantasy skulls, caudlrons, etc.) If you just want the appearance of some floating helpers, you could use that aura and slip in another power instead of Support Drones. Auras and Costumes are your friends.

As I noted before, you prob want to get the 1-pt refresh adv for Superconductor on Ball Lit, now that you have a source for the debuff in Chain Lit (can trade R2 of either Energy Wave or Ball Lit for it). Otherwise, it looks like everything is coming together pretty well here.

Ahh I miss that thanks, flow how is the Lightning Helix for Chain Light.?
  • flowcytoflowcyto Posts: 12,852 Arc User
I'd prob just pass on that adv, since it can eat the NI debuff, and because you'd mainly be using Chain Lit just initially to put up the SC debuff for longer single-target fights (Ball Lit's 1-pt adv can refresh it afterwards). So, although it's a good source the SC debuff, you shouldn't need to use Chain Lit that often overall. Note also that Chain Lit can put up SC w/ just a tap, as long as the target already has NI on it (Ball Lit can apply NI, though you can also charge Chain Lit for NI).
