Tekkeitsertok: A shot at an Inuit archery tank

jaazaniah1jaazaniah1 Posts: 5,543 Arc User
Toying around with an archery themed tank. Unfortuntately the toggle forms in archery are not really well suited for tanking. One relies on maintains/distance and the other on crits. I've played with one that uses Weather Shaping, Wind Barrier and Wind Reverberation based on repels, but just finished a Wind tank so wanted something else. Trying one based on knocks. In the PH it seems to work reasonably well. iInally have a use for Eroded Shard ;)

Concept is an Inuit hunting god using a mix of tech and tradtiional weapoms (sort of New Godsish)

Note that R2 in Desperate Shot is there for Frail Armor.

Explosive arrow does lots of knocking.

Yep. I could drop Sonic Arrow, but I want the stun. I could drop Energy Wave, but it's a knock and I just want to use it. I need to keep Torrent of Arrows for wider coverage. Just hard to fit it in.

Well, Torrent of Arrows is a decent long-range opener, but it's not as good beyond that due to it's frontal cone being only 30-degrees. Overall it's not really a build I'd recommend normally, but it could still work if you're committed to it.

Heh, I made a WInd tank work and also an End PSS Force tank. All kinds of tanks can work. They just have to be able to hold aggro and not die ;). I'm mostly trying to figure out what would make a good Toggle Form and EU, considering that most of the time enemies will be right in my face and lots of blocking is involved.

Well, Sparkstrom's toggle is always there for ranged tanks, though it's kinda boring and not fitting of all themes. Stuff that can proc off of block effects can be good, though can also be very set-specific. I guess for Archery there's enough CC-related effects for Manip to be possible (though it's not an ideal form for builds not focused on CC), and Explosive Arrow's Pyre Patch adv can proc Fire's forms and EU (and even on tap). Caltrop's adv could proc Bleed, but its rate is very low, and the Bleed-based forms are melee-focused anyways.

Regardless, I guess I should have clarified that my not recommending the build was more tied to all the non-Archery powers taken, but even that is kinda understandable when the set's own toggle/form is rng-based and you want to avoid that.

Just thought I'd post the final version of the archery tank. I switched over to using fire for the form and EU. Using knocks was too much of a pain. Sometimes I thought I had applied a knock, only to see the stacks fall off. Clinging Flames is much more reliable all around. Definitely need more forms across sets that are more tank friendly.

Yea, using Fire effects as a universal proc (like w/ Flashfire + TReverb) is an old trick, but its updated version (w/ a Fire toggle/form also added) is a decent fallback for any ranged tank that has issues w/ toggle/forms and EUs overall. It also helps a bit that the effects can deal some extra dmg/threat in the background.
