An Attempt At Ranged TK/Force Hybrid Build?

Hi All

Here is a build I've been working on that Combos TK and the new Force powers, this build is mostly based around "Supporting with Shields" but still has a fair amount of DPS as well.

Now the original plan for this build was to be a Support Build/w Hybrid Role (Due to PFF) but I'm not too sure how effect it may be with the testing new Force Vital Shielding (Form) and Power Barrier (EU) as they do not seem to be all that strong at first glance.

But regardless here is both the builds I had in mind. Note: w/o the HC updated I can't show you the build itself in it's fullest (trust the edited text, not the HC link, ofc):

DPS/Shielding Hybrid:

Main Focus is DPS/w "Supporting with Shields" but still a heavy aim on DPS.

I wouldn't say that any build using a defensive passive (like PFF) and the Hybrid role has a 'heavy aim on dps'. Hybrid-dps builds can be much sturdier than their pure dps counterparts, but they also give up lots of base dmg for that benefit. That being said, the first build generally looks okay for a Hybrid-dps (though I don't expect Shield Restoration to be that strong for it). The 2nd supprot-ish build doesn't look to be that great at anything (low dmg- esp w/ just TK Strike for single-targets, somewhat weak support w/o using the Support role and a support-based passive, and the build is sturdy but can't hold aggro to help tank reliably).

If I had to pick between the two, I'd prob go w/ the first build, though obv its general role in a group is going to be a bit different than the 2nd build's. So it may also just come down to what sort of role that you want to be filling in w/ this character.

I guess you could always throw Protection Field (or Mindful Reinforcement) into the 1st build if you like having the option to help shield an ally in peril once in a while, though this obv wouldn't be that build's main purpose either.

Yeah the 1st build is what I think I mostly go for rather then a support build as I tend to suck at being a pure Support type xD

But I'll toss around each build see what I can do.

(Note: w/o the HC updated I can't show you the build itself in it's fullest (trust the edited text, not the HC link, this starts to get annoying)

Here is what I ended up going with:

TK Ranged with PFF, TK Strike for easy Ego Leech (I learnt this mistake the hard way, when I ditched this in another build) and TK Barrage for AoE/Stun. TK Lance as my main STD.

Singularity Bomb/w Adv (As I don't want to pull anyone and for the Extra Stun, tho I may go with the other Adv for Barrage for the Heal. Shield Restoration (Mostly for theme reasons and I find it useful)

The rest you find in a 101 TK build.

Singularity Bomb/w Adv (As I don't want to pull anyone and for the Extra Stun, tho I may go with the other Adv for Barrage for the Heal. Shield Restoration (Mostly for theme reasons and I find it useful) (...)
Grouping enemies up together is typically helpful, esp in team content. The stun adv on Singularity Bomb can also be fine, but sometimes you may want to use its innate pull-in instead (by not fully charging it). Anyways, the build looks okay, considering the concept.

Yeah, I mainly keep the group up for melee focused builds but I can see the appeal of still keeping it for team wise but for range builds I tend to keep mobs away from me so I can deal with them before they reach me I'll weight my options with the two, as I can make them the top of the list to remove quicker.

    Thanks for the input!

Edit: So after some stress testing and playing aorund I ended up going with this build over the PFF one. Just your Reg TK Range Build atm now with 2 of the new Force Powers slotted in. While PFF was decent to have in another build, the DPS isn't quite matching up what I'd like.

(And I have a new theme in mind)

I'd likely drop a R3 in my TK Shield for Resruge R2

I will still play around with [Singularity Bomb] R2/Av & [Shield Restoration] to see how useful they may be (as I already have them on 2 OCs already). But likely chance I may keep them

Yea, the build looks pretty good for a ranged TK dps, and that's even before considering any Force powers in those other two power slots. So feel free to experiment w/ those two powers as you see fit.

    At a glance:
    • I can't even explain how little value you are going to get out of Shield Restoration at literally any rank if you have no END statted. It scales on END.
    • You are doing yourself a disservice by not rank 3ing Field Surge if you are using PFF.
    • Your TK/PFF build will flat out function better with Ego Form and a Restoration Heal and Resurgence.

Edit: I typed the above a while ago and forgot to post lol.

I would recommend you drop Shield Restoration entirely. You aren't making use of Power Shield mechanics, Power Barrier nor Vital Shielding.

Additionally make sure you have enough REC to cover the max cost of Mental Impact as it was recently increased.

Oh hey Raven fancy seeing you here!

But yes I ended up ditching this "PFF Combo build" all together and went with a pure TK Build (I was gonna put in Expulse R3 for a little nod/theme for a "Warlock" from D2 but outside of that and in game-play wise I don't think that'll give me much so I kept it out)

I've made sure that I have enough Rec for my Ult and I took your advice and grabbed a Restoration Heal on TK Shards. I also added Ego Surge/w Adv for that Extra DPS. Ranked up R2 for resruge (R3 might be overkill) and R2 in my shield.

Not sure why you are so interested in PFF. It's a pretty inferior Defensive Passive compared to Defiance and Invulnerability. Why not just slap a forcefield-like aura (for theme) on your character and use one of those? It appears that the devs couldn't figure out how to improve PFF, so completely left it out of the Force revamp. To me that suggests that they are going to move on to another power set revamp and leave PFF in its non-optimal current state.

Fair enough, I did notice PFF was a bit lacking in tanking, I may end up going for Invulnerability, shame that they didn't improve PFF but ah well. I'd used IFD on top of it but they turned it into a passive.

Besides for visual, nothing else. (So I'll porb end up slappin a Aura for theme on it)
