DLL error when trying to start launcher

meneshmenesh Posts: 54 Arc User
Since this morning I'm getting an error saying
"Can't find procedure entry point 'TryAcquireSRWLockExclusive' in Kernel32dll."
whenever I try to run the Cryptic Launcher for CO. (I'm stuck with an ancient Vista machine for now, so ARC isn't a thing.)
Anything I can do?

Considering kernel32.dll is one of the essential dynamic link library files for Windows 85, 98 and ME (and probably Vista too), that would suggest some corrupted on the part of the DLL file. There are no end of reasons why kernel32.dll might be having issues, but they are hard to pin down.

This link has some suggestions on how to go about fixing the issue.

No, I already found and "fixed" the problem.
Cryptic sneak patched the launcher to require Win7 to run. The function it tries to call for doesn't exist in Vista.

I know Vista is horribly outdated, but it would still have been the nice, and professional, thing to inform your customers of such a change.
