Tako Targeting Frustration

Tako's stinky cloud keeps making me autotarget him on action controller scheme when I wanna switch to something else on shoulder button. This is one of many situations where controller players are given the finger. Can't we have a damaging aura that isn't coming straight from someone we cannot damage in the first place?
