why dont they have psi whips or bullwhips as powers? sword and shield? staff and spears?

All those things would be great and I am sure everyone here would be happy to have them in the game...and while a lot of that could be done by reskinning existing powers ideally what people would want is new power sets that actually utilize things like staffs, spears, and shields which means new powers being added and new animations being made and suddenly it all gets quite complicated and something that is unlikely to happen given the resources and support or dev team appears to receive.

It would be neat though.


Personally I would settle for more bracer options that resemble various types of shields and some heavy weapon skins that look like staffs or spears... and perhaps the added ability to reskin the chain based powers already in game to look like whips made from other materials.

I don't believe their weapon code supports flexible weapons, so having them as options for existing powers is a nonoption; they'd have to design new powers (possibly reskins of chain powers).

Some animations already exist...mostly because enemies use them, but making them work for players is probably another story all together...otherwise we'd have so many powers ripped from NPCs already.

Well, the chain powers are not a bad match. I can't think of any npc powers that are particularly better.

I can imagine Dual Blade models being used as a basis for a whip power set in some cases?

Spears...Manimals..and Red Banner...

Shields...ARGENT Mecha's...

Sword...Single Blaaaaaaade

Staff...specialist animation IMO. Same with others.

You can get a thrown spear as a device. I don't recall manimals using them in melee.

That's actually a standard block animation; they just have huge shield-shaped bracers.

Sadly, due to the variation in allowable sizes and arm length, two-handed weapon animations don't work.
