The largest lizard alive today is the Komodo dragon, up to 10' long and weighing up to 150 pounds. The largest gorilla is the eastern lowland sub-species, with males weighing upwards of 350 pounds with a standing height averaging 5'6". Gorillas are much bigger, and of course much smarter. OTOH dragons have a bite that may pass on infectious bacteria, inject a venom, or both (this remains a subject of debate). Frequently they bite prey from ambush, then wait for it to die from the wound in a few days. Komodo dragons are strong swimmers, which gorillas are not. But gorillas can climb trees, which dragons can't.

In other words, which one is "better" appears to be circumstantial.

Apparently it's both. The venom has anti-coagulant properties to make the wound get infected worse.

That is a popular theory right now, but what mechanism actually comes into play is still debated. No few authorities suggest the wounded animals die from common sepsis which is more likely in a tropical climate.

That's just it, their venom won't actually kill you at all. Also the delivery mechanism is their saliva, so it's debatable if it actually counts as venom. Anyways, it makes wounds that would otherwise heal naturally into a death sentence unless medically treated. I actually remember reading an article about Komodo Dragons that was written before the venom was identified that speculated it existed because the bacteria in dragon saliva aren't actually unusually deadly, but the wounds just didn't heal properly.
