Help for Voiced Based Hero

bipolardragonbipolardragon Posts: 7 Arc User
So I'm am trying to create a singer for our band group. My husbands character is going to have guitar heavy weapon and I wanted to stick away from that and do mostly voice; or what looks like voice powers. If possible maybe work in soul mesmerism and support drones(cam bots). If anyone has any ideas thanks in advance.

Well, for theme it'd prob want to mainly use Sonic-based powers. That can be functional, but don't expect amazing dps, given how uncommon Sonic dmg is atm.

    (Unnamed Build) - Freeform
    v2.4.2-29

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Endurance (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Scourge (Con: 10, Ego: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Ascetic (Con: 5, Ego: 5)
Level 9: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Daredevil (Ego: 5, End: 5)
Level 15: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 18: Worldly (Ego: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Power Bolts (advantages)
Level 1: Force Blast (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 6: Concentration (advantages)
Level 8: Night Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3, Silent Running)
    Level 11: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 14: Hyper Voice (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 17: Overdrive
Level 20: Sonic Device (Rank 2, Deafening Dissolution)
    Level 23: Resurgence (Rank 2)
Level 26: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Force Shield (Rank 2, Force Sheathe)
Level 32: Howl (Rank 2, Intimidating Force)
    Level 35: Imbue (advantages)
    Level 38: Thundering Return (advantages)
    Adv. Points: 34/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6:
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
    Ego: Insight (3/3)
    Ego: Follow Through (3/3)
    Ego: Sixth Sense (2/3)
    Avenger: Ruthless (2/2)
    Avenger: Round 'em Up (3/3)
    Avenger: Relentless Assault (3/3)
    Avenger: Offensive Expertise (2/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (2/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
    Mastery: Avenger Mastery (1/1)

Its predictably going to mostly channel Hyper Voice everywhere, and use Avenger Mastery procs on charged Force Blast for a bit of single-target burst dps. If you don't want NW's Sneak (for theme) then you can always just drag the two powers it gives you off of your hotbar (and then not take its 1-pt Sneak adv)- its a good dps passive even w/o those.

I didn't include Soul Mes, mainly cause I don't consider it very practical for a dps to use charged paralyzes in groups. Instead, Howl could be thematic and still have some decent utility- Fearing and KDing nearby mobs and applying Furious to nearby allies. Other potentially thematic powers to consider for utility could be stuff like Thunderstrike, Force Geyser, or Force Snap. Gears mostly for Ego, w/ some Con and End (and crit rating to boost Avenger Mastery's proc chance).

Just tested it out. The powers are good but my survivability was crap (granted wasn't wearing the best gear). Is there a certain way I should play it so that I can last a bit longer before I die?

Well, you can always use a defensive passive like R3 Invuln in the Hybrid role instead of a dps passive in the ranged dps role, though that will considerably lower your base dps as well. That, or maybe get a 2nd Active Defense.

If its cause you are pulling AoE aggro in groups then... well, generally you don't want to do that w/o an AD up at least (unless you want to sit in block and heal while your team does the killing). Rely more on focus firing w/ Force Blast and knocking things around then, and generally letting more tanky heroes go first. A threat wipe could also help for bosses (though you can treat dying and self-resing as an aggro wipe, too). Gearing for more Con, Defense, and maxHP can also improve survival a bit.

So, you have a few diff options available to you.

Could you give us some more information about your duo?

What role is your husband's character (dps, tank, healer, something else)? And what late-game content are you planning to run (alerts, Warzone dailies, Cosmic group encounters, etc)?

Do you have a preferred role for this character?

I was looking for something like this! Could this be transitioned into a healer role?

Hyper Voice is just one AoE attack, so you can essentially just use any Support build out there and put HV in one of the power slots for attacks. Although it won't deal great dps as Support, you can also get its Disorienting adv to lower enemy dmg for the rest of the team.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Fleshing out a voice-based build depends on how far you're willing to stretch creativity to fit the concept. Here's a couple examples that might fit the bill for a lead singer. Since you're not building for Cosmic-level dps checks, I opted away from tools like active offenses and ultimates in favor of regularly-usable heals and quality-of-life powers like a self-rez.

    DPS build:
    Lead Singer (dps) - Freeform
    v2.4.2-29

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Ego (Primary)
    Level 10: Recovery (Secondary)
    Level 15: Constitution (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: The Scourge (Con: 10, Ego: 10, Rec: 10, End: 8)
    Level 6: Ascetic (Con: 5, Ego: 5)
Level 9: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)
    Level 12: Worldly (Ego: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 15: Field Ops Training (Con: 3, Int: 3, Ego: 3, Rec: 2, End: 2)
Level 18: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
Level 21: Amazing Stamina (Rec: 5, End: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Force Bolts (advantages)
Level 1: Fire Strike (Wild Fire) spit some hot lyrics
    Level 6: Fiery Will (advantages)
    Level 8: Thermal Reverberation
    Level 11: Unstoppable (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 14: Hyper Voice (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Incendiary Grenade (Chemical Burn, Scorched Ground) add pyrotechnics to your stage show
Level 20: Force Cascade (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 26: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 29: Absorb Heat (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Resurgence (Rank 2)
    Level 35: Retaliation (Rank 2)
    Level 38: Fiery Embrace (advantages)
    Adv. Points: 36/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6: Athletics (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Ego: Mental Endurance (3/3)
    Ego: Force of Will (2/2)
    Ego: Follow Through (2/3)
    Ego: Sixth Sense (3/3)
    Avenger: Ruthless (2/2)
    Avenger: Round 'em Up (3/3)
    Avenger: Relentless Assault (2/3)
    Avenger: Preemptive Strike (3/3)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
Vindicator: The Rush of Battle (2/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (3/3)
    Mastery: Ego Mastery (1/1)

Gears mostly for REC, enough that the energy return from Unstoppable will pay for a fully charged Force Cascade. You can gear a bit of CON if you feel too squishy. I'd probably avoid gearing EGO. You can change the emanation point on Force Bolts, Fire Strike, and Force Cascade to your head, to look like they're voice-based. Incendiary Grenade alone is enough to keep your toggle form stacked if you apply it liberally; you can drop Fire Strike and Absorb Heat if you feel they're too much of a conceptual stretch.

Single-target rotation is Fire Strike (tap) > Force Cascade (full charge). Use Incendiary Grenade to keep up the debuff and fire patch. Hyper Voice when you want to whittle away packs of enemies, or avoid the knockback of Force Cascade. The knocks/repels might be difficult for your melee partner, but can be manageable with practice.

    Support build:
    Lead Singer (support) - Freeform
    v2.4.2-29

    Super Stats
    Level 6: Presence (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Endurance (Secondary)

    Talents
    Level 1: Divinity (Con: 12, Pre: 12)
Level 6: Shrug It Off (Con: 5, Pre: 5)
Level 9: Boundless Reserves (Con: 5, End: 5)
    Level 12: Prodigy (Pre: 5, End: 5)
    Level 15: Survival Training (Dex: 3, Con: 3, Pre: 3, Rec: 2, End: 2)
Level 18: Lasting Impression (Pre: 5, Rec: 5)
Level 21: Quick Recovery (Con: 5, Rec: 5)

    Powers
    Level 1: Radiance (advantages)
    Level 1: Iniquity (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 6: Compassion (advantages)
Level 8: Devour Essence (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 11: Supernatural Power
Level 14: Aura of Primal Majesty (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 17: Hyper Voice (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 20: Thunderclap (Rank 2, Collateral Damage)
    Level 23: Mental Leech (advantages)
Level 26: Vala's Light (Rank 2, Light Everlasting)
Level 29: Support Drones (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35: Rebirth (advantages)
    Level 38: Redemption (Salvation)
    Adv. Points: 36/36

    Travel Powers
    Level 6: Athletics (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 35:

    Specializations
    Presence: Selfless Ally (2/2)
    Presence: Dominion (2/2)
    Presence: Grandeur (3/3)
    Presence: Moment of Glory (1/3)
    Presence: Force of Will (2/2)
    Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Moment of Need (3/3)
    Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
    Vindicator: Aggressive Stance (2/2)
    Vindicator: Merciless (3/3)
    Vindicator: Focused Strikes (3/3)
    Vindicator: Mass Destruction (2/3)
    Mastery: Sentinel Mastery (1/1)

    Gears mostly for Presence.

The animations of Devour Essence, Iniquity, and Mental Leech could be interpreted as singing/sound-based. Vala's Light could be a laser show at your concert. Thunderclap your hands to the rhythm. Redemption/Rebirth for a crowd-pleasing encore. You could replace Mental Leech, Thunderclap, or Supernatural Power with Soul Mesmerism, if you wanted to fit that in for theme.

This build plays better in a team setting, where your heals and buffs/debuffs really shine. Thunderclap triggers Sentinel Mastery in an area, which you can capitalize on with Mental Leech's DoT. Devour Essence for single target damage, and Hyper Voice for AoE. You might not need Supernatural Power with Aura of Primal Majesty in the mix; but it's a nice safeguard for Devour Essence spam, if your Compassion isn't stacking regularly when you're DPSing a boss. Overdrive would work with both Devour Essence and Hyper Voice, but would yield relatively small returns.

If you're using a set of Justice gear, you could consider picking up Repurpose in the Presence tree, and Modified Ger in the Vindicator tree.

    **QUICK EDIT**
Either build would benefit from a Psionic Accelerator device, which would fit your theme well.
