That, of course, being a cinematic description that could not actually be played out in the Hero system, as it doesn't really have much of a concept of wearing someone down -- the normal type of damage done in a Champions fight typically regenerates at around 100% per minute.
so here's a question...how the hell do these villains manage to keep building giant doomsday cannons or lasers in orbit without ANYONE noticing? you would think the sheer amounts of material and labor needed to build a huge cannon in space, not to mention transportation up there, would've been noticed by SOMEONE in PRIMUS, UNTIL, UNITY or whatever other organizations were active at the time
Technological master villains like Dr. Destroyer and Mechanon typically have bases of operation in remote areas, from which they launch orbital vehicles shielded by stealth technology beyond anything that exists in the real world.
Have you seen the latest trailer for the Black Panther movie? Wakanda has a disguising hologram covering over an entire city, if not more.

Well, as a GM I could do that if I really wanted to. It's a matter of building a villain with high Defenses relative to the attacks of his opponents (Damage Reduction can really help there), as well as a low ratio of Endurance consumption to total Endurance and Recovery available.
But a fight that long would become incredibly boring and frustrating for the players.
well, isn't that sort of already what the major events here do?
i mean, take bloodmoon right now - first week you got heroes beating back hordes of zombies and freeing the souls of fallen heroes, second week takofanes sends in doomlords in response to said heroes, and then when that fails, he goes all-out and joins the fight himself
despite all being spread out over three weeks, that is all basically one singular event

Nah. Assume something like 150 Stun, 20 Rec. Either the PCs do more than 20 damage per turn, or they don't. If they don't, they never win. If they do, they eventually win unless the bad guy can break contact for a turn or so, at the end of which he'll be at full stun again.
It's sorta like dps tests at the dino. Either the fight lasts forever, or you have enough dps and the fight lasts a few minutes.
I thought the point was that the heroes do indeed eventually win. The issue is the parameters of "eventually."
Random rolls can make a big difference in how much damage a character takes from Phase to Phase. And don't forget that the bad guy can use a Segment to take a Recovery, a viable tactic if he has a Speed advantage over his opponents.
But we're probably boring the MMO-exclusive players with this stuff.

Now, an event that played out over an entire week from start to finish? Spaced out appropriately, that might indeed be epic.
