What exactly is the point of this feature? I know it swap your auras, tray layout and costume, does it actually let you have different skill choices?

You can't have a new full build of powers w/ it, no. Its still one full build per hero, max. But of the powers you have for that hero, you can use it to control if you want a diff set of those powers (or device) on ur current tray, among potentially swapping the other things like Role and Costume, etc.

For example, say I make a character that has both Night Warrior and Regeneration. I can make one build that's melee role with NW, and a second that's hybrid (or even tank) with Regen; if I get low on health while using the first build, I can swap to the second with a single click, block until my health is stable, and then keep fighting.

It also swaps build and equipped gear. It's not useless but it's often marginal.

hmm... ok being able to swap roles with a click sounds useful
