passives

A simple idea, that will open the door to incredible amounts of build flexibility..and more than a few balance issue/bugs.. but watevers.

Remove all role restrictions from passives a.k.a. allow for any passive in any role.

Yeah some things are broken... no I don't use/abuse them.. where would be the fun in that?

Not like this suggestion won't end well, sure the combinations would be interesting at first, then the novelty wears off and people will just flock to what works best to abuse.
Want to get to know me a bit better, Click me and take a read of My Dragon Profile Page, it's a bit dated but still relevant.

I take this quote from a review that I agree with.

"customisation is so linear; everyone is after the optimal dps:survivability ratio with 0 reliance on other players = autonomous gameplay... Players don't need each other anymore... which in my opinion is a bad thing."

I know it's up there on the "stuipd-o-meter" with "turn off all DR on players" but hell.. you don't ask and you bloody don't get.

Also if you want to be techinal about it, people already do the "flock to wahtever" thing already wtih hrybrid role.

What this would mostly do is emphasize the fact that offensive passives are sort of bad but the offensive role is really really good.

    Truth

It'd probably be more feasible to remove roles if we want something like this. Just let the passive loosely define what the player's build is supposed to do.

A great example of how this could potentially break a number of passives is "Congress of Selves".

It started out as a Support/Hybrid Role passive, but for very silly reasons some wanted it available to all roles...and it was done and now, big bits of the passive do not work as they should/at all.

I am of the opinion that breaking passives out of their role restrictions will cause some to not function as they should. I say that having seen how CoS used to work and then when it was transformed to work in all roles...now no longer works at all in some respects.

Unless there was a surefire way that this could be done without balance issues or breaking things...I'd be inclined to not support this suggestion.

I'd rather have versions of already existing passives which can work or/ auto adjust in certain roles.

    Example:

Defiance - Hybrid Role, functions as normal/as it does now.
Defiance - Ranged DPS Role, defensive benefit is halved and replaced with a boost to ranged damage to compensate. Energy gain now triggers off being hit and hitting targets.
Defiance - Melee DPS Role, defensive benefit is halved and replaced with a boost to melee damage to compensate. Energy gain now triggers off being hit and hitting targets.
Defiance - Support Role, defensive benefit is lowered somewhat but now applies to team mates and applies a healing boost to self to compensate for lowered defensive benefit
Defiance - Tank Role, defensive benefit is increased and grants a bonus to knock resistance and threat generation.

^ Something like that but more thought out. If I was really invested in something like that I'd definitely flesh it out more.
