Bug or working as intended? STR Melee Damage boost not affecting Ego Blades

The pop up for STR states that it grants a certain percentage bonus to Melee Damage. Ego Blades are tagged as melee, but only scale off of Ego. Is this intentional?

I feel as though the bonus from STR ought to apply due to the Melee tag, but I lack information. Attempting a Single Blade/Ego Blade DPS mix (theme reasons), but having to balance my stats between STR and Ego is causing lackluster DPS.

TK Blades scale innately w/ Ego- they are the only melee attacks to scale that way.
