Compassion should be Triggered by Shields

Since we are in a period that Toggle Forms are getting revamped and bug-fixed, we need to Address Compassion as well (not gonna mention the bug)

Right now Compassion buff both Healing and Shielding, but can only be triggered by Healing alone, which itself is not very flexibile

There are players who don't quite play as healers, but as Shielders, that would help them a lot​​

Full support... even though my shielder uses IDF... I do have a healer/sheilder who uses compassion and primarily relies on shielding.

Unfortunately, it would probably have to be triggered by shields actually providing shielding (putting a bubble around someone doesn't necessarily mean anything), which might be tricky to implement.

Compassion affecting Shielding, but not stacking on Shielding effects is actually counterproductive. Many times, I am unable to stack Compassion simply because keeping shields up all the time prevents health damage. If Health Damage isn't being recovered, then Compassion does not stack. Shields are meant to prevent Health Damage, but their strength with Compassion relies on their target having first taken Health Damage to boost the shield's strength, which is against what a Shield is supposed to exist for.

So, yes, please find a way to let Compassion stack when a Shielding Effect is used. Or, well... my suggestion for Compassion is to have it stack whenever a nearby Friendly Target is struck by an Enemy instead. At least then people will be able to passively stack Compassion when people are just too strong to require the On Heal condition.​​

Couldn't it be made to work like that specialization? Honor? Which stacks if you shield or heal an ally? So that even if you don't apply direct healing...a shield would count towards stacking.

While the game is cruddy about enforcing this, the intent is that you have to actually do something meaningful to stack a form. Thus, you can't stack healing unless a target is actually damaged. The equivalent for shields is that you wouldn't get compassion for shields unless the shields actually stopped damage.

I agree, shields should be supported by compassion. And vice versa.

Hrm.

Sounds like Compassion should be altered to "scan" targets HP when taking damage, so that if a shield from the Compassion user is applied it will stack when damage is blocked.

I guess in a weird way it could be a "stack grant" on damage blocked whilst shielded, in a similar manner to how Protection Field grants energy when the shielded target is hit.

The Force bubble has an effect where any time the person you bubbled takes damage, you gain energy. That function could likely be retooled to stack Compassion on you.
