New Hideouts

axenomeaxenome Posts: 97 Arc User
It's high time that we were given new hideout options.

For RP scenarios, such as any slice of life, we could use an apartment in between the gaudy and exceptionally expensive looking loft/penthouse, and the crummy, bottom tier basement hideouts. How about a normal apartment? It can-- indeed, SHOULD-- be a smaller location. no more than 10 adjustable options per payable hideout, but with the possibility of going out into the front hallway. This would be a boon to those of us RPing a SWAT entry (roof/fire escape access?) or domestic scene. There are those in the community who would even be happy to design and create such levels in exchange for a reduced price on the hideout.

For that matter, it'd be nice to have to hideouts we already have completed- such as the habitat section of the moonbase, the exercise room of the penthouse/loft. A functioning doorway into these sections in their current state of incompletion isn't terrible. Although completing them would legitimately be awesome.

Another possible hideout type could be a crystal cavern, with new crystaline materials. It could be an adaptation of the cave hideout, or something with a completely new layout. If the latter, crystal structures in the cave could be substituted with heavy machinery for a factory level hideout.

A castle hideout would be nice to.

But, lets be honest with ourselves, they will most likely never happen. But, we can dream in the meantime.

these are some from a really old thread some guy suggested and i liked:

    Westside big loft/apartment

    http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r619/cloncas/dojo-gym-f-range-1.jpg

    http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r619/cloncas/dojo-gym-f-range-2.jpg

    the guy suggested 3 themes:

Dojo (with an obvious martial arts theme, you know, the Crime Comp/Shared bank being like a Table with Scrolls next to one of those structures where you store scrolls, etc, etc)

Gym (more modern/comtemporary, but not luxurious. kinda like gym on westside where you must save some people from the Cobra Lords)

    Armory / Firing range place

    "Personal Arena" hideout

    The themes were:

    Gladiator Arena (Fantasy/Primal themes)
    Assasin/Mercenary Arena (contemporary/modern themes)
Sci-Fi/Alien Arena (Future/Alien themed, like for "The unleashed" for example)

    Some crappy layouts i made:

    http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r619/cloncas/Arena1.jpg
    http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r619/cloncas/Arena2.jpg
    http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r619/cloncas/Arena3.jpg

Also, stuff like the Chains holding the structure could change per theme:
In the Gladiator Arena they look like chains.
In the Assasin/Merc Arena they look like Metal wires (like the ones used in modern bridges)
I the Sci-fi Arena they would look like wires made of Energy.

I remember other suggesting stuff like personal mini submarine hideout and stuff like that

FIRST : Open up those unused rooms in the old hideouts

SECOND : Give hideout some sort of "Benefit", an extra that would make it interesting to be owned

Right now, Hideouts are only good for RPers

I recall some people suggesting turning one of the unused rooms into a mini-powerhouse, with a Trainer and maybe some dummies and stuff

Long time ago i used to play a browser game named "Kingdom of Loathing" where everything was a pun.

There, every player had a "campground" where they could place ítems they get as rewards from quests.
Some of those ítems gave different daily bonuses " + X strenght for 10 turns" , " +20% resources for 15 turns" , etc.

We no longer have crafting, so one of the rooms is now 100% useless.

Maybe adding a series of "buff giving ítems/furnitures/structures" that can be placed on said room
Those ítems could drop from normal quests, Adventure packs, Endgame content like Nemcom, Unity missions, the Telios new thing, fighting the modified cosmics, obtained as perk rewards, etc.

Thus giving a reason for players to buy hideouts and maybe, then adding more variety of hideouts in the future

A couple Nemesis missions should be added where the hero is attacked in his/her hideout. Standard comic book fare.

Cough. A hideout gives you a hideout bank, which is incredibly useful if you have multiple alts. The main issue is that additional hideouts are purely cosmetic, but nothing in your proposal changes that fact.

I think the hideout system, IMO, needs a revision from the ground up before we consider new ones. I mean let's be honest, people want customizable hideouts, and it would probably be a good money sink to, both zen and in game currency as people would tweak their hideouts with features and such. Again an issue of convincing bean counters.

Not sure how successful this is, but I know a huge chunk of Wildstar's cash shop is dedicated to such fare for their player housing.

I am pretty sure DCUO has quite a bit of it to, I just haven't checked them out. Super Group HQ's would help as well.

The more suggestions I read, the more I feel like the players have awesome ideas. Sadly, (just as the suggestion of getting new areas) I fear the ideas might be... well, "considered". Since the alerts the game seems to focus more on fast leveling materials like vehicles and such. I'm missing content updates the most, to be honest. Also, is it just me, or are the hideouts still the exact same as six years ago (when they were brought in)?

Champions needs a lot of things at this point. So much potential wasted right now.

It's more than just you. STO poached our environment guy right after the hideouts launched. We have no more because the guy that made em got transferred the second they noticed that he was as talented as he is. Which is pretty much the life story of CO, come to think of it.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.

The way I heard it, Tumerboy decided he'd rather work on STO anyways. :p So he volunteered to get transferred.

So the real problem is people see no reason to buy more than one hideout per account?

but then, what could be the benefit of having more than just one?

unless they made some sort of content related to that, maybe with the nemesis system involved.

Wasn't there an option to Exchange/move parts of "similar" hideouts ?

(like druid, Sanctum and alchemist ones being able to trade ítems in between them?)

Its sad this is a dead/pointless feature by now, it is kinda comfy having your place, wish we could have seen more places.

    commercial photography locations

I doubt Champions engine can handle something like a Hideout-exclusive architect, like the Wildstar Housing plots

Actually yes... you can mix and match to a limited extent similar hideouts.

    I would like the following:

    - Access to the auction house through a terminal (like this crazy wonderful high tech thing I have heard of called "the internet")
    - Home delivery for the store (Super speedster delivery service?)
    - Kitchen dispenses food (temp equilibrium boost and minor "heal" over long-term)
    - A trophy case with customizable trophies in it based on your perks and completed missions
    - The tailor should be a closet door and my "bank account slots" should be my armory and should look like this accordingly.
    - Optional teleport pad for purchase that will drop you anywhere the Primus Jet will OR certain places in Millennium City, Vibora Bay or .....San Angeles? (Just throwing that out there. :) ) Skins include a high tech and a magic portal option
    - A crafting table that gives a small percentage bonus to crafting.
    - The ability to log off at the headquarters and come back to the same place.

Each hideout type has three sub-types.
    The sub-type features are mix-and-matchable.

So if you buy one hideout then you have very limited options. If you buy a second hideout of the same type then you get a little more customization, and if you buy the third then you get the max customization.

But "max customization" doesn't amount to much here.

    This is just not true.

Even discounting the private tailor, which I do not consider to be worth much, there is still the matter of the account bank, and RPer or not, the account bank is a major feature.

A private powerhouse is of the same limited use in my mind as a private tailor is to me. Maybe even less so.
I have never not been able to find some targets in a powerhouse, or been able to get to a trainer for whatever changes I may want to make.

And like it or not, our hideouts here are not the same as in, say SWTOR.

We have a handful of things we can adjust and a very limited assortment of choices for those things.

While I would like to see a deeper hideout system what we have was basically developed by one dev in their spare time.
I think it's too late for Cryptic to go back now and change everything up for more/better monetization.

Absent a system where hideouts matter, and I mean really matter, for in-game things any attempt to revamp them, to allow more customization but then to sell all the different things that players would want to use to decorate their hideouts, would be met with much resistance.

Some people have bought multiple hideouts for max customization. Some bought different types just to better fit this or that hero.
If they were to basically erase all of them now and tell players to start over?

    It wouldn't end well.
