New Healer

akaara1akaara1 Posts: 174 Arc User
Do any experienced healers have any tips or advice for a new healer? When in groups it seems like I am too far away from some team mates and I have trouble finding them quickly. I try the follow button but get interupted sometimes from agro. Thanks in advance.

If ur team is spread out often, then having a 100ft range heal is handy. Make sure if ur using TeamUp that ur enabling the extended UI that shows all of the other groups. Enable health bars above ally player's heals, if its not 'on' already. Defensive auras like AoRP and Med Nanites can also give you more leeway to find and heal allies before they die, as they will be taking less dmg.

It can be tough to find and keep up allies who aren't in a team w/ you, but that's not really ur fault, and to a degree ya can only help that so much.

How do you turn on the extended UI?

If ur in a TeamUp, you should see a blue arrow icon under the lowest-allied player's avatar on ur Team. That should bring up separate raid windows for the other teams (if there are any).

Well I got two little bits of advice
1: make sure you have a dedicated self heal, incase something goes wrong and you get hurt.
2: the F1-F5 keys let you insta target your team mates, with F1 being you, F2 being the second person on the team list and so on.

It may also help to zoom the camera out to oversee everything going on. Try to angle it so you can see as many of your teammates as possible. When your UI fails you, having a sharp eye can be your saving grace... or theirs, as would probably be more appropriate.

Not a lot of people use this tactic, but you can bind something to select allies similarly to how you would tab-target enemies. I use the Tilde key for that purpose. It's not 100% reliable, but if you can face your camera in the direction of whoever you need to heal, you might get a target close enough to them to use an AoE. Or you may just actually get who you intended and get to heal him directly.

In most cases though, if it is a single straggler trying to handle a little more than he can chew while you're busy healing the rest of the group, don't worry too much about them. If you can heal them without sacrificing the rest of your team, go for it, but don't sweat it too much if the rest of the team needs your heals more though. Don't worry too much if you can't heal everyone, but it's always good to seek out the opportunity to do so.

Great tip! I'd never heard that one. I do have a problem with it. F1 worked fine but F2-F5 did nothing. This was in the open mission "teamup". Does it just not work in that "team" or do I have something broken in my options?

It doesn't work in alert or open mission team-ups, unfortunately.

Good advice. I may need to reroll some abilities.

You mean the straggler who dies repeatedly and expects you to rez them everytime?

Is there some UI element that denotes range to your ally/teammates? I know STO has this feature (a game that, oddly, relies much less on team healing), and I've had a hard time on occasion figuring out where the hell some teammates have wandered off to in the more spread out Nightmare Event battles. I've taken to hovering above the Colossus so I can at least hit the main tank and melees, but that can leave uncomfortably low health bars over by the orbs (and visa versa if I flit over to heal the orb squad).

Unfortunately, if you're ever interested in Cosmic fights, you want an area heal, and there are no good 100' area heals (the advantage on psionic healing is essentially useless).

I do fine on my healer without any aoe heal. Having 100 feet range is far more important in my opinion.

Its prob good that no AoE heal is decent at 100ft, though, as then that sort of heal would risk becoming too powerful or relied upon for cutting corners in FF building (ie, overriding an imo important decision: reach vs. coverage).
