When I left:
1. Weird mechanics where everything was dodged/mitigated so using an offensive passive was asking to die (I liked using offensive passives).
2. Bash (the worst sh*t map which is only used for pathetic bragging in a video game) is the only thing that popped with any frequency, with UTC having a unreachable player que requirement and Stronghold (best map ever) being bugged with turret problems etc.
3. Player population overall and especially in pvp was super low.
4. Devs didn't listen or fix bugs (not even talking about balancing stuff just bugs like the turrets and queue requirement).
Stuff probably hasn't changed, considering this forum only has like 4 updated topics within this month but thought I would ask.

2. Bash is still the map that pops the most. Been a while since I've actually played really, but UTC and other maps didn't pop all that often. Doesn't help that the map kick bug and turrets bug have never been fixed.
3. Population is still pretty low overall.
4. Nothing has been looked at so far for PvP as for bug fixes, though the devs have been fixing lots of older issues recently. It actually wouldn't surprise me if one day some of the bugs dealing with PvP maps were actually fixed with the way things are looking now.

3. No actually, player population is higher than back then.
4. They do listen and fix bugs. Just not for PvP...because it's not a priority. Over time that could change but don't hold your breath.
Overall if you're coming back just for the PvP then don't expect much. Otherwise, however, the game has improved quite a bit.
