Yvonne Craig (Batgirl 1967)

Yvonne Craig passed away Monday morning from metastatic breast cancer; In 1967 the ballerina turned Batgirl, was one of the very first women to portray a superhero on television, and showed a generation that women can kick butt too. Thank you, Miss Craig.

    True, it hasn't been a great year to be a Hero; on the bright side all three gave memorable performances that shaped their audiences and brought life to characters who each lived up to one of the greatest aspirations of any Hero: to be an inspiration. If even just one kid cracked open a science book after watching Nimoy, or stood up to their bully, then it makes it all worthwhile. It's sad they may be gone, but what they left us lives on.
