This is merely a repost for an awesome, all be it, dead idea, not my idea, and claim no owner ship over it, this needs to happen!

While no one knows what the new 'semi-gritty city zone' will be, I still want to campaign a bit for the second-most important city in the Champions setting after Millenium City: Hudson City.

1. The Lay of the Land

Hudson City is divided by the Stewart River horizontally with the Northside being the commercial and 'clean' half and Southside being the crime-ridden and run-down half. In the middle of the city, bordering on the river lies the vast LeMastre Park, which holds amongst other things the Hudson City zoo. The various neighbourhoods lie around LeMastre Park. Some of them are: (clockwise with LeMastre Park being the center)

- Blackbridge (12 o'clock): One of the 'safest' neighbourhoods in HC, one can mostly find residental homes, convenience stores and the odd office building here. The vigilante Dark Angel operates here. The most notable landmark is the Hudson City convention center, which is a popular adress for conventions of every kind.

- Highlands (1 o'clock): Located on a hill (hence the name), Highlands is the administrative heart of HC, with the HCPD headquarters and city hall. It is the safest neighbourhood in HC due to the police taking special care of the rich and mighty who life and work here.

- Elmview (5 o'clock): Making up most of the eastern part of Southside, Elmview is a lower to lower-middleclass neighbourhood, possibly comparable to the nicer parts of MCs Westside. Most people live in tall apartment buildings and the crime rate is quite high, with various street gangs on its own, incursions from gangs from Freetown and the crimelord Janus claiming it as his turf.

- Freetown (7 o'clock): Making up the western part of Southside, this is the worst neighbourhood in HC, with the highest crime rates, the most street gangs and the highest poverty. Comparable to the worsest parts of Westside. Mostly residential with small shops and restaurants. Turf wars and shooting in the streets are common here.

- Little Italy: (10 o'clock): Like in every other big city you have an Italian community in HC, only that here it is the largest of the ethnic neighbourhoods. Mostly residential with some blots of commercial and industrail activity. Nice neighbourhood with relatively low crime, if someone counts out the omnipresent Mafia activity.

2. Places for Heros

Starting point and central hub would be Blackbridge with the Hudson City convention center having a big superhero convention going on, complete with tailors, vendors and powerhouse. Maybe even an auditorium as a social instance. Other cool places could be:

- The Skyline Club: Located on top of a skyscraper, this is HCs answer on Caprice. Modern upper-class club for the rich, mighty and beautiful. Possibly a little bit more sophisticated than Caprice.

- Hudson City Fish Market: Before you ask why: Why not?

- Avenue of the Elms: A giant pedestrian mall and one of HCs tourist attractions.

3. The "Good" Guys

Our allies in HC could be:

- The HCPD: Of course.

- Dark Angel: Essentialy a female Batman.

- Cape and Cowl Investigations: A private eye company, run by three low-powered supers.

- The Harbinger of Justice: Essentialy the Punisher.

- LIBRA: Harbinger's small private troop of crimefighters.

4. The Bad Guys

There are so many cool villains for HC, so this is just a snapshot of course:

- Card Shark: A villain group as well as it's leader, Card Shark has a theme of cards, poker and gambling going on, and sits in the middle of the crime of HC. He answers to no one and does what he wants. If no one stops him and his group.

- El Azteca and his Cartel: A Mexican criminal empire with everything that you'd expect like drugs, money laundering, protection money etc. The twist? It's also a cult, where El Azteca sees himself as the religious leader.

- Speargun and his gang: An ex-marine who found an unusual niche to be the crimelord of: The harbor and the Hudson River. Underwater combat training, a gang of divers and his famous speargun, that's how he rules over Hudson City's waterways.

- The Consortium: A really mysterious military conspiration. No one actually knows what they are exactly trying to hide, but they say it's something with aliens...

-UMBRA: A James Bond-style villain group consisting of several masterminds with vast influence in nearly everything, from economy to religion.

- The Victory Party: Finally, the thing we have all waited for! Beating up (Neo-)****! The VP is a group of Neo-**** which appears to have a clean public profile, but the innermost circle consists of highly trained soldiers and assassins, which are led by a deranged WW2 doctor who prolonged his lifespan and carries DNA of Hitler himself in his body.

- WEB (While Earth Burns): A group of radical eco-terrorists with a spider theme going on. They too appear as a group with a clean public profile, but the inner circles are more like VIPER.

- The Black Tarantula: Once he was one of the best cat burglars ever, but now this talented old man struggles to keep himself over water against all the other criminals in Hudson City. He is bound to get into trouble and not only with the law...

- Contagion: This Russian scientist once worked on biological weapons for the Russian government, until one experiment went wrong and he was exposed to all kinds of diseases, plagues and sicknesses. Somehow he survived it and now this withering husk of a man works as a black market dealer, who creates designer-plagues for the highest bidder.

- Dr. Rodin Grimm: A brilliant cosmetic surgeon at day and highly praised and known in the high society of HC, he's an insane serial killer at night, who picks his victims at random and 'improves' them with his skills. In truth he just creates grotesque monstrosities of flesh and bone who rarely survive the night.

- The Headless Hangman: Your classical vigilante, without compassion, mercy or compromise.

- Lt. Paul McClinton: They say that he is the most corrupt cop on the HCPD and that's saying something. Actually he runs a small criminal empire, but his henchmen aren't street punks. They wear uniform.

- Nocturne: Once a scientist who worked for a pharmaceutical company, where he should develop a new range of sleeping pills. He got an overdose of these new pills and now he is unable to sleep. The lack of sleep drove him insane and expanded his already apparent superiority complex. As the costumed criminal Nocturne he commits crimes, because of the money he feels he deserves and to flatter his ego. He uses sleep- and dream-themed gadgets.

- Andres Panthanatos: Without question he is the best hitman in the world. There is no form of death he hasn't trained himself in. Word is, if Panthanatos is hired, the person is already dead...

- SNAFU: A super-soldier project gone rogue, SNAFU now works as a mercenary and hitman with enhanced strength, reflexes and armor implanted under his skin.

- Siddhartha: He's a serial killer with a twist. He was a spoiled rich kid, who was disgusted by homeless, poor and welfare-receiving people, so he started to clean the streets of those he deemed counterproductive to society. Thus he sees himself as a vigilante and good guy.

- Last Call: A crimelord who thinks and acts, like he is stuck in the 20s or 30s, complete with tommygun, fighting against the prohibition and using phrases like: 'stick-up', 'bootlegging', and 'coppers'.

- Penny Dreadful: Obsessed with literature and books, she plans on creating the largest library in the world. Insane, uses mundane weapons and gadgets and plans crimes themed after famous literature.

- Serpentine: After getting a dose of biological weapon, this ordinary mercenary has gotten snake-like abilities and an obsession with snakes. Surprisingly not allied with VIPER. Or is he?

- The Witch of Red Hill: Deranged scientist who dresses and acts like a witch to kidnap and experiment on children. Has gotten super-strength and durability through her experiments and uses witch-themed gadgets.

- The Cainite: Insane serial killer who sees himself as the embodiment of evil.

- The Arsenal: Highly specialized group of amoral mercenaries, with each member having perfected a certain weapon.

5. Open Missions (just ideas)

- I'm For the Cape!
Set in and around a rough and tough road-bar, this would be one big bar brawl, with different gangs and groups fighting each other and you in the middle of it. Could include some interaction with the furniture, like using chairs, bottles, throwing people out of windows etc... If you beat up enough of the bad guys, the biker legend Redbeard, a guy tougher than questionite and meaner than Kigatilik appears to challenge you to an all-out.

- Danse Macabre
Set in the Highlands, you have to protect various politicians from being asassinated by Andres Panthanatos during a parade. First you have to take out his flunkies, then disarm some bombs, break up a roadblock, then finally confront the elusive asassin.

- Perilous, Eccentric, Troublesome Arachnids
Set all over LeMastre Park, WEB agents have set the animals of the HC zoo free and injected them with some kind of super-serum to help them take revenge on their captors. You have to save civilians, calm down and administer the anti-serum to the animals and defeat the WEB troublemakers.

- My Gun is Bigger!
Set in the small industrial district of Stewartsboro, you have to interrupt a competition of two of the greatest criminal weaponsmiths: Wayland Talos from MC and the resident Daedalus, before they wreck the whole district. You have to defeat their mooks, disable their weapons, evacuate the citizens and finally put both of the competitors behind bars.

Hudson City is unlikely to ever be in Champions. Two reasons; Superheroes and Villains do not go to Hudson City, and the atmosphere and tone of Hudson City is way different than the rest of the game. It's for street level crime for Punisher's and Batman-esque characters, not Superman, Thor or the Hulk.
