How about have some playable Radioactive powers?

How about making new powerset, which would reuse currently existing powers as NPC powers? Why it wouldn't be Radiation/Nuclear Powers? Because currently in game very many enemies use it - including Irradiates, Teleiosaurus and Gigaton. Gigaton Powers also could be updated, because what he currently has look absolutely squishy & not appropriate (especially that sliding lunge, which probably got from Stag Manimal mob). There are lot of their animations that could be just copipasted into character, & it would be cool.
Someone probably could say: toxic/fire powers, Scourge is already in game & copies it very well. Nay, it's not well enough lMO. Still poison & radiation isn't same thing. Where's bright rays, where's explosions? Scourge has only it's gas-attack like thing (Epidemic), which looks like toxic fumes. But again, that's not radioactive fumes.

l'm of course, aware about difficulties about making new powers, so l suggested for that to exactly reshape some of available right now powers, with minimum of changes.

Energy Projector :: Radiation

Effect:
Radiation Sickness - which stands Particle DoT at enemy (separate from Plasma Burn DoT). It stacks up to 5 times & looks like green shine when you step into radioactive puddle at Aegir.

Powers:

1. X-Ray Bolts
Energy builder. Single Target Particle damage, 50' range. Initial bolt has chance to inflict Radiation Sickness.
Animation = Irradiate Projection.
Advantages: overdose - all bolts have chance to inflict Radiation Sickness - 2 pts

2. Atomic Blast
Charge. Single Traget Particle Damage. 100' range.
Chance up too 100% (based on charge) to inflict extra instance of Radiation Sickness, also refreshes duration of all existing stacks on hit.
Animation = 2-handed charge, then enlarged Irradiate Projection.
Advantage: Crippling Challenge - 3 pts
Gamma burst: on a full charge Atomic Blast will knockdown target. Also up to 5 enemies 10' near it receive 30% of its damage - 2 pts

3. Radioactive Form
Slotted offensive passive.
You deal extra Particle, Fire & Toxic damage. You now receive less Particle, Fire & Toxic damage & receive energy when attacked with Particle damage. Additionally all enemies affected by Radiation Sickness in 10' near you receive N pts of Particle, DoT every 2 seconds.
Animation = not required.
Advantages: none

4. Fallout Burst
Charge. AoE, 50' range with 15' sphere.
Enemies receive 50/50 Particle & Toxic damage. All enemies have their damage output lowered & have extra instance of Radiation Sickness if they aren't affected by it.
Animation = radion's revenge.
Advantage: Contaminated Ground - on a full charge Fallout Burst leaves a patch in area, that deals Particle & Toxic damage to enemies within it - 2 pts.

5. Neutron Storm
Maintain. PBAoE, 25' sphere.
Enemies receive Particle Damage & have 25% of receiving Radiation Sickness each tick.
Animation = medical nanites aura/Teleiosaurus' Radiation Storm
Advantage: Induced Radioactivity - storm now persists for a while after you stop maintaining it, but chance to get Radiation Sickness is reduced to 15% - 2 pts

6. Proton Blast
Charge, must be fully. PBAoE, 15' sphere.
Enemies are damaged & knocked away. They receive Particle damage.
Animation - maybe Force Detonation with black-colored krackles inside.
Advantage:
Nuclear Fusion - it now removes all stacks of Radiation Sickness for extra Fire damage & clinging flames - 2 pts
Nuclear Fission - it now places Toxic DoT (deadly poison) on enemies with Radiation Sickness - 2 pts.

7. Isotope Shield
Block.
Animation - maybe green-colored force/telekinetic shield with krackles color changed to black.
Chance to inflict Radiation Sickness at attacking enemies.
Advantage: Instability - your shield now deals Particle PBAoE damage at enemies in 10' range, also inflicts Radiation Sickness at them - 3 pt

8. Particle Beam
Maintain, Single Target Particle damage. 100' range.
Animation = Teleiosaurus' radiation breath, but emanation point is left hand (like Plasma Beam).
Advantages:
Meltdown - Particle Beam is now become 1' cylinder AoE & can hit up to 3 enemies - 1 pt
Beta Decay - Particle Beam now has 15% chance per hit to inflict Radiation Sickness - 1 pt

9. Hydrogen Bomb
Charge time, 2 min cooldown rate, 100' range, sphere 50' AoE. Maybe even counts as Ultimate Power.
Animation = enlarged radioactive barrel explosion (green sphere + mushroom cloud)
Blasts targets with extremely powerful explosion, dealing 50/50 Particle/Fire damage. All enemies affected by Radiation Sickness have this effect worn off & take extra Particle Damage, which multiplies on number of stacks enemy had. Deals 100% at enemies within 25' range from epicenter & 50% at enemies within 25'-50' ring.
Advantages:
Holocaust - Enemies who had all 5 stacks of Radiation Sickness now have Held & receive Toxic damage over time - 1 pt

10. Radiation Reverberation
Energy Unlock.
Animation = not required.
You now receive energy when attack an enemy with Radiation Sickness effect with Particle damage. It scales with your Ego or Constitution, which's higher & can occur once every 3 seconds.
Advantages: none

11. Nuclear Sheath
Active Offense
Animation = Radiation Sickness effect, but applied on user.
42%/50%/60% increase all damage, also deals extra Particle damage whenever you attack an enemy with Particle damage, effect can occur once every 1 sec.
Advantages:
Nuclear Heat - sheath's damage type now changed to Fire - 3 pt.
Toxicity - sheath's damage type now changed to Toxic - 3 pt.

New archetype - the Nuke

Role: Ranged

Stats:
Ego
Constitution
Intelligence

1. X-Ray Bolts
1. Atomic Blast
6. Fallout Burst
8. Radioactive Form
11. Proton Blast || Chest Beam (green variant)
14. Concentration
17. Neutron Storm || Eye Beam (green variant)
21. Isotope Shield
25. Radiation Reverberation
30. Nuclear Sheath
35. Particle Beam || Plasma Beam (green variant)
40. Hydrogen Bomb

Could be either reawakened or cost 1150 Z. Or reawakened, but still costs 1150 Z & all Radiation powers require Nuke to be leveled up to 40 lvl in order to unlock this powerset.

So, it would be something like that. Definitely, its not finished variant, it can be (& must be) improved/renamed to make it better. Of course l realize that Radiation/Atomic isn't most required power here, but l explained, that it would be easiest to make & why.

Also one power, that could be optional for Nuke AT:

    12. Atomic Reanimation
    Revives closest fallen ally.
Animation & sound exactly from abilities of Atomic Animators/Reanimators (Irradiate mob group). Also leaves on its place Radiation Cloud, that deals Particle & Toxic Damage. Grants zombie stance for a while.

    Cool idea.
If only the dev team would do another power set and AT.

If this happens I will gladly convert Gamma from an odd PA Blaster build to this... and I'd swap out several of Mere's force powers for Radiation powers...

Perhaps a hold of some kind can be added to the set as well

I think we have enough DoT effects from various powers already. With that, I think Radiation Sickness should be a -1% particle/fire resistance per stack, up to 10 stacks and we should remove Toxic from the set. I can see Particle and Fire damage types, but Toxic to me just screams poison, not radiation. Other than that, I like the idea behind this and support it. I do have some suggestions:

Instead of Hydrogen Bomb, why not rename to "Split the Atom" and have the advantage of "Ground Zero"

Ground Zero: Your Split the Atom now applies maximum stacks of Radiation Sickness to all affected foes and leaves an irradiated area on the ground that deals high Particle damage over time to foes closer to the center of the blast zone and lower Particle damage to foes the farther out they are, up to 50ft.

Hey, just look at that - l posted this thread & it wasn't too long until we got first playable radioactive power - of course it's Nuclear Shockwave. This one went to might powerset as it's Grond-inspired & deals 50/50 crushing/particle damage. Maybe devs could make Radiation mini-set into Might powerset (as it's Grond-inspired as well), just like laser sword set inside Power Armor set. Powers could deal 50/50 crushing/particle damage or 100% particle depending on ability concept. Some of powers from that Radioactive mini-set could go to Gigaton too.

It's not like there arn't already Radiation Powers in the game... they just arn't set up for players to use.... Last I checked Gigaton has some unique Radiation powers... the Irradiates have some unique Radiation powers... and then there's also Radion who has some unique Radiation powers... 1 of which we have access to in the form of a Bloodmoon device [Radion's Revenge]

Now l thinking about radiation melee powers that would resemble might powers. Kinda used by Grond OV. Considering particle ranged damage already assigned to power armor/gadgeteering, melee radiation would be even funnier & more original. Stay tuned.

Now, with new Lair and Grond/Teleiosaurus new powers & visual effects, it also gives me hope and wish, that Devs finally would consider making Truly Radioactive powers. Do it please, because Power Armor powers already won't cut it + they still can't be recolored to green for Silver players.

Recently l also had idea, that Radiation powerset could deal both Particle + small amount of Penetrating damage. Let's remind that Penetrating damage type is resisted only by all damage resist and ignores half of it. Currently Penetrating DoT is dealt only by Anguish advantage from Avenger specialization tree.

A fortiori l love Maintains, and maintained rays conceptually would be very well for Radiation Power Set. And bring more diversity since some players could switch their 2GM (or whatever) to something radioactivity-themed. Perhaps l'll update draft furthermore, stay tuned!

Currently Penetrating DoT is dealt only by Anguish advantage from Avenger specialization tree.!

Reactive Strikes is another one. Although it's a 10% chance to reflect 10/20% damage from Single Target attacks back to the attacker as Penetrating damage.

But yes. I fully support a Radiation set.

  • i'll support it too, as long as they do a blood magic powerset afterwards...too few games have good blood magic in it - in fact, the only one i know of is the dragon age series

    Edition 2.0
With Penetrating Damage. Stacks that are part of mechanic called "Isotopic Infusion". Which stands atoms in enemies' bodies convert to potentially unstable isotopes, which can be used for further interactions of this set.

    Energy Projector :: Radiation

    X-rays:
    50 ft, single, energy builder
Deals particle damage at your target
First shot has chance to apply Isotopic Infusion.
    Visual: Irradiate projection

    Atomic Blast:
    100 ft, single, blast
Deals particle + Penetrating damage at your target
Has 25%-100% depending on charge apply Isotopic Infusion. Also each shot has 100% to refresh existing stacks.
Advantage: Fallout - this power also knocks down your target if fully charged. That knockdown can affect even bosses. You may knock down each 30 s at most.
    Visual: Two-handed blast, then projection

    Radiation Storm:
25 ft, PBAoE, Maintain, full mobility
Strikes enemies around you with Particle + Penetrating damage, each hit has chance to apply Isotopic Infusion.
Advantage: Background Radiation: when fully manitained, it now applies a patch, that deals Particle damage, and refreshes Isotopic Infusion.

    Radioactive Form:
    Slotted Offensive Passive, Energy Form
You now receive resistance against Energy Damage. With extra resistance to Particle damage, receiving which now restores energy. Energy damage you deal is increased. Additionally you deal extra Penetrating damage, and enemies around you receive periodical Penetrating damage depending on # of Isotopic Infusion stacks they have.

    Particle Beam:
50 ft, single target, Maintain, self-snare
Smashes your target with beam of concentrated radiation. Deals Particle + Penetrating damage, and each hit has chance to apply Isotopic Infusion.
Advantage: Meltdown - Particle Beam now becomes Cylinder AoE with 1ft width, that can affect up to 3 targets.

    Irradiate:
50 ft, single target, click, cooldown
Makes your target radioactive, causing it to receive Particle+Penetrating DoT, whose ticks also deal damage in a 10' sphere around it. It also grants one stack of Isotopic Infusion. Additional attempts to apply that do not refresh timer.
Advantage: Ionizing Radiation: Irradiate also applies Negative Ions when it used.

    Fallout Shelter:
    Block
Reduces incoming damage, while also dealing Penetrating damage back at your target, and depending of # of Isotopic Infusion stacks they have.

    Nuclear Sheath:
    Active Offense
Increases damage you deal, also gives Energy Over time. Also deals Penetrating damage back at your target, and depending of # of Isotopic Infusion stacks they have.
Nuclear Fission (3 pt) adds significant Damage Buff depending of # of Isotopic Infusion stacks around you.
Nuclear Fusion (3 pt): it now heals you over time as much, as enemies around you have Isotopic Infusion on them.

    Radiation Reverberation:
    Energy Unlock
Returns energy whenever you deal Penetrating damage to enemy affected by Isotopic Infusion, but most each 3 seconds.

    Split the Atom:
100 ft, 20 ft sphere AoE, charge, must be fully charged, Ultimate
Deals extreme Particle+Penetrating damage at your target. All Isotopic Infusions on them are consumed, and they generate 15 ft AoE explosions with power, depending on # of Isotopic Infusions they had, dealing Particle+Penetrating damage as well.

I really like the new 2.0 versions... though I'm a bit concerned with how many of the powers trigger the extra penetrating damage per stack mechanic... The block should perhaps have it as an advantage...

I'm not entirely sure of the all the unadvantaged penetrating damage, but it looks like a good start. Besides that, we've needed Radiation powers for a while. /signed

Penetrating damage is resisted only by resistance to all damage, and ignores half of it. I.e. Kenina/Frosticus, which have 200% base damage resistance, thus get 1/3 damage of normal attacks, will have their resistance calculated as 100% for radiation power, i.e. get 1/2 damage of that. So it may be pretty new and interesting. Without DUC mod bosses will have 10% resistance against it; and 20% on elite. With DUC mods they'll have only 5% of resistance to that on Elite difficulty. +it vastly helps for Bosses with Defiance, sich as Forum Malvanum. It's like Burning Chi Fist's DoT. Penetrating damage's underexploited currently, so l thought about penetrating radiation and how it can deal this damage type & found it may fit theme.
