SNRs and DCs

It is 6:38 server time, August 2.
Getting DCs and SNRs about every couple minutes.

I am in the Boston area, using Comcast. Anyone else having major difficulties?

Cogentco (whose lines Comcast uses in that area) are supposedly being extorted, for lack of a better word, by Comcast because they are not paying Comcast more for the 'privilege' of having excess bandwidth (such as that generated by MMO's) moving their lines. Comcast then throttles the bandwidth to try and punish them for it.

You can write to the FCC and file a complaint easily by going to the FCC website (Google it). Verizon also supposedly pulls this same crap. Net neutrality laws are -supposed- to be preventing this kind of behavior but obviously they aren't, or at least not yet, they're relatively new (they were passed in Feb of this year). Pretty much the only thing that's going to make any difference is for the FCC to exert pressure on the ISP's to stop throttling bandwidth for more money.

The problem is I don't think the net neutrality laws are in effect, just yet, so companies are extorting as much as possible.

The exact issue, yes. The FCC announced in February that they were going to impose Net Neutrality regulations; however, they have to publish the regulations first, then allow a period of public comment (probably at least six months) before the regs can take effect. So obviously, the various corporations involved are going to try to milk everyone for everything they can get while they still can.

Alas, well can't blame them for wanting milk.

Doesn't matter who the provider is in cases like this, it's who the providers have to route their traffic through.
