Emergency call - to every Champion available

bs.jpg

“ Black Storm speaking. This is a call to every superhero, vigilante and good-doer, wherever they are.

Not many of you know about me. I've been working with UNITY as part of the worldwide superpowered protection program for years now. I've trained, bled, fought many threats, from the weakest bankrobber to high-level supervillains like Dr Destroyer, Therakiel, Takofanes and more. Like most of you, I do my job to protect this world and ask no reward for it, simply because this is something greater than us. We had to deal with a lot of losses and destruction, and there's still a lot to do - but here we are, standing strong in front of evil.

Yesterday, we were young, proud and walking together behind the glorious path created by Defender and the Champions. Today, more and more of us notice that the danger has taken a new form. In the lurking shadows, an unknown power destroys what we fought so hard to preserve. It never really revealed itself, but it is very much here, taking advantage of every minute of weakness we have. How ? I can't really explain it myself. I've investigated every place I could to understand, and here is what I discovered : for reasons to be told, we, as heroes, have stopped believing. How powerful was the flame that guided our hearts in the endless battle against evil, it is now nothing more than the dying light of a candle. It happened some time ago, in a place that many of you know. A town called Paragon City. It was the cradle of heroism, and one day, it disappeared. This is the same evil that turned its eyes on Millenium City.

And I don't plan to let it win.

The world has taken a grim face. The mightiest of us now walk around Renaissance Center like a bunch of lost dogs, dreaming of our long-gone fame. Those who come after us, the young heroes with great potential, prefer to hang inside Club Caprice, instead of taking the hard training at the newly reformed Ravenswood Academy. We think that we've done enough, that the world is safe. It is not, and things will only get worse if we don't wake up. How long do you think Dr Destroyer will wait, before he unleashes his minions on us, leading to a second Detroit disaster ? How long before VIPER takes over ? How long until Mechanon turns every machine against us ? Most importantly, will we let it happen ? I certainly won't, but I can't do it all alone.

And to stop all of these from happening, we have to light the flame once again. But first, we have to fight this sleeping evil that darkens our dreams. Don't be mistaken, it is a lot more dangerous that you may think. It's not a physical enemy that you can take out with a single punch. It lies inside each and every one of us. Slowly, it stops the world from even turning round. The people we once swore to protect live like mindless zombies. The Champions don't show themselves outside of the safest places they can find. We found ourselves united again when the Lemurians attacked the city, or when Mechanon revealed himself, but now what ? Nothing. Everything that our predecessors have done, everything that WE have done, is going nowhere because of this unknown evil force.

This is an emergency call, to each and every one of you who once believed in something greater. We are humans, mutants, aliens, vampires, or else, but most of all, we are heroes. It is our duty to make this world a better place and we will gladly do it, asking nothing in return, until we're finally done. I need you. The world needs you.

Black Storm, over and out. ”

This roleplay post is really a call to every player on CO. I decided to write it as what my main character would do in-game, to remind everyone that CO is (still) a superheroic-RPG game and not a mob-bashing costume-crafting hobby. It's known by most of us that the game is in a state of... whatever, it's not moving forward, and in the long run, it only means its end in a few years. I certainly don't want it to happen so soon. It has the potential to live again, as Marvel Heroes did after a disastrous start. I know people would say : it's Cryptic or whoever pulling the strings backstage, they offer nothing but shitty lockboxes and no content. But I personnally think that we first need to show them our love for the game and that we want it to improve because we believe in this game. I have no idea how to do it, I thought of reuniting every player available in Renaissance Center twice a week, for screenshots and stuff, anything that could show them that we are here waiting. It's just a modest suggestion and I'm pretty sure some of you will have better ideas. The fact of the matter is, we have to DO something by ourselves if we want them to move with us, and in the end, get new players into it.

Just don't let it down. Especially you, unknown evil force that runs the game.

it stopped moving forward shortly after On alert in 2012. Even On Alert, our last major upgrade, looks like a live test for NW's gear enchant system- mods and fusing and their skirmish system- alerts.

    To get it moving;

    1. pay a lot of money into the game.
    2. pay a lot of money into the game.
    3. get everyone else to and at the same time get thousands of players in to do the same thing.
    4. repeat, until someone decides it's worth putting something else in the game to do, something OTHER than collect money.

    unfortunately that's not being snarky.
Cryptic has three games. They are concentrating on the ones which make the most profit and which come with free advertising, due to being well known and you should see the amount of items in their stores.

read through the STO updates for the last 4 years, then read through CO's. Theirs will take a lot longer to read.
The ones doing the mob bashing and costume contests are the ones still hanging around DESPITE the lack of work.
we get new players in, they either leave before level 10 or as soon as they hit 40.
not kidding, my silver acct : I checked the generic SG after 2 weeks. about 200 on the day, 48 a week later. about 12 2 weeks later, about 4 above level 10.
The ones who get to 40.
    Now what do I do?
    Get some gear
then what, whats the end game? there is none
    and they go.

To fix that statement, Cryptic is focused on the ones that have a license. At one point, in STO's lifetime, they were in a bitter situation as much as Champions is. But Champions, being the fully owned IP, was thrown squarely under the bus and sacrificed. The development standards of Champions kept going down while STO's kept going up. The net result, STO bounced back, while Champions kept hemorrhaging subscriptions of people tired of hearing broken promises (planned updates and fixes that were quietly cancelled only to appear in STO or Neverwinter) and all the big plans and updates just never happened (see: UNTIL report of the list of items that were at one time being worked on for Champions but were swept under the rug, abandoned or forgotten, or the Foundry that was toted about when it launched in STO and then again in Neverwinter, only to be quietly canceled and never talked about again for Champions).

Champions has not seen a new fully fleshed out zone in this game since Vibora Bay launched, and Cryptic had at least half a dozen or more such zones planned at one point. They were suppose to actually redo the lairs in this game to make them better, but that got quietly abandoned and it took months of prying before a dev finally gave us a statement saying that it was "the codes fault" and so on. Hell, going on that, the On Alert update wasn't even delivered as it was originally pitched. I am sure they were working on it that way, but as Champions development standards are the first to be sacrificed to the altar of the other licenses, what we got wasn't even remotely what was talked about.

While we will be told that each game has their own team, it's obvious that the Champions team gets sacrificed the most when it concerns the licensed games from Cryptic. Not to use a tired quote, but Champions could have been a contender if they didn't throw her under the bus. This game has thirty years of lore, stories and love by creators, writers and fans behind it, and it's being wasted right now.

^^ and that's the other part of the problem. They have to please the IP owners of those two games. They don't have to worry about this one.

If you honestly want to make a difference, convince new players to put money into the game. On the boards? You're so far beyond preaching to the choir. I'm over 4 grand into this game, you're not going to have to convince me.
In game, I am @EvilTaco. Happily killing purple gang members since May 2008.

Labor laws require that overtime hours be paid, but it will depend if the devs are wage slaves or if they are salary.

We can't be bothered with promises that sales and subs that pay for the game won't be put back into it because they never followed through the last few times. By their own admittance going F2P brought in more money than they ever had gotten before, which they didn't put back into the game to make it great and bring in more customers. Also again by their own admittance getting lockboxes added showed even more profits than anything else that has been sold in the game, and still it didn't get put back into the game.

    What next?

    What a silly OP.

Also, Marvel Heroes got a real rework and improvements before being basically relaunched as MH2015.

It's now popular because it has better quality than CO. But it took Gazilion some work.

All CO ever got was leeching team and resources out of it and "improvements" like taking away crafting from players wh did enjoy it or effectively killing PVP.

Even now the game is back to old bad inferior Los Gatos responsible for these decisions.

You'd like this game improved? So do I. But it could happend only in an unimaginable scenario where it's not tainted by Cryptic studio working on it.

No it doesn't work that way, I'm pretty sure Cryptic is aware that we are still here. Showing our 'love' for the game with screenshots won't make a bit of difference. Players spending money on the Z-store should be all the 'love' the company needs. They barely even acknowledged the issue with free character slot. (This isn't the first time an issue like this was ignored)
