A long time ago they added a charge restriction. When you do a Gigabolt charge you get a debuff for a few seconds that stops you from doing another charged Gigabolt, in that time you can only do taps.

I don't understand why it's needed since there are powers that break the content far more than Gigabolt, and a power like Typhoon is just as strong but doesn't have that debuff.

Gigabolt used to eat your passive when charged, which sucked far more than the current setup.

Yeah...I'm not overly fond of how Gigabolt works now...so much so that I try to avoid using it...even on builds that have it.

I use it mostly as an alpha strike or spam tap it. Not great but, it does the job.

If anyone bothers to use Energy Storm and Gigabolt in the same build...you'll notice some weirdness.

I use it occationally on my electric build... I don't mind the inability to charge it again for a few seconds after each charge... well except for when it throws up the debuff because of an extra 100th of a second on a tap... I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me when I was tap spamming it for some AoE or on a boss between full charges, and had to wait 2-3x as long between charges because of that. I've reported it as a bug many times but it still seems to happen from time to time.

I use it only with with my Tempest AT, as Opening Alpha Attack against group of Mobs
I use it more than Lightning Storm

Well that aren't entire truth, Typhoon main flaw is that it's Energy Hungry as well, and it's Damage is divided between Crushing and Ice damage and you need a passive to Boost BOTH of those Elements to have the Best Results near Force Cascade

I don't really understand the point you're trying to make.
Gigabolt is exactly as energy hungry as Typhoon, while Typhoon does more damage and lacks the charge debuff and the secondary effects are better.
Both have an in-set offense passive that buffs all the damage types that are needed. Most people would even recommend using Stormbring for both Gigabolt and Typhoon since it is considered to be overall better than Electric Form.

The only things Gigabolt has going for it, is that the lightning EU works really well in general and it fits well in a build that makes use of the strong single target lightning attacks (not that I like balancing sets like that). But the EU works best for fast hitting attacks so if you are trying to make Tyhpoon or Gigabolt into your main attack MSA or the wind EU would work better. And while lightning has stronger single target damage wind has better AoE, and when using MSA to fuel your energy the lightning single target attacks fit well into a wind build too.
