Well ... I'd be ok with either a passive "mode/stance" like Divinity or an active like CW get. If it is active, I'd add an additional boost to the various powers that maybe drops their direct damage, but applies a marking effect and/or multiplies threat. I don't mind a block stance, but then again I don't mind the current…
I have one I leveled up to somewhere in the 30s. The lack of decent ranged options is a real downer. I'm leveling a CW at the same time, and I have to say while the GW is fun, there is no comparison. My favorite part of the GWF is the speed, actually. ALL of the at-wills allow some movement and/or at least root you less -…
Some spells could use a buff, sure, but I think you're verging into the ream of over-exaggerating trying to make a point but basing it on an experience you seem to share with no one else. Teleporting, unless stupidly done, rarely puts you in danger of pulling another set of mobs.
Well, in addition many things may be very useful leveling, while not so much at 60. I'd wager that most folks will want/need to respec at 60. It would be nice if you could buy one for AD or if you got one out of the adventurer's box once in the mid-levels.
The best thing D&D ever did for the MMO / RPG industry was essentially form the thematic backbone. Unfortunately, at some point in time in both PNP D&D and then following to the electronic versions, Clerics have been assumed to be endless fonts of HP-renewal for every other character by a large portion of the player base.…
I still seriously have no such problems. You may say I've built a striker (which I didn't) but I'm starting to suspect that is your way of invalidating any advice. I suspect you didn't build a control wizard - you built an intentionally limited character, focusing on flavor over function. You made choices, and you think…
My rotation has morphed into Chill Strike, Entangling Force + Conduit of Ice. I alternate the last encounter - Shield isn't buying me so much, and I'm currently favoring another DPS spell. Essentially, I open w/ either Chill Strike or Entangling Force (on the tough) depending on the group make-up. Chill Strike followed by…
Finished this earlier, also no problems. No, I think it fits thematically in the D&D 4e them pretty well. Yes, the system is hella different - but the concept holds. Everyone does some damage + something. Maybe it's more buffs, more AoEs, more CC .. or for Strikers, more damage. For controllers, it's a mix of AoE and CC.…
I don't use shield; it's clearly not a must and I find it actually slows me down. The original post was (a) squishy (b) because I pull so much random aggro. I just experimented and walked from the zone entrance to the tavern. No pulls. I think you should look at your pathing.
Not sure on the names? The Shepherd quest you mention, for instance, I did earlier - I'm a about 6 or so past that one now. It was pretty easy - did it as a 32 (made 33 during). If you mean the street where you first zone into the area that has a set of mobs to the right, and another set to the left - I can run through…
Trying to be kind, I did not. A well-built striker should destroy single targets much better. You build a "I'll hold him, you hit him" wizard. I built a "I'll hold him, and there may not be anyone around to hit them so I need to be able to take care of myself." I suspect my CC capabilities are not much different than yours.
No, is he wandering over and grabbing trash that then focuses on you. I'm seriously not having the same problem you are. * At range, I Chill Strike. This kills or drops the things like imps / other trash to a sliver of health. * Then I find the toughest target, and put Conduit of Ice on him. THEN I RUN UP TO HIS FACE. This…
Is your companion aggroing? FWIW, I am free to play and have 2 characters near the same level - the other is a GWF. The wizard "feels" far more resilient, and some of this is simply the fact that you can do basically everything at range, safe from most content.
Maybe this is the problem then? I have no problem w/ pulling one group at a time. Sometimes I yank lots (like running the Spy Hunt) but in general you can fight one group at a time. Their view distance seems really, really limited to me. I ran the 5-shields quest this AM and went from crypt to crypt without pulling any…
And "control" isn't absolute. For a controller in 4e DND, it means that you do baseline damage + add on some sort of conditional effect (immobilize, slow, hold, etc.). It isn't a guarantee that your CC effect will be constant ('cause it isn't) nor is it suggesting you should drive your baseline damage closer to zero. A…
[/quote]I took Spellstorm thinking it would help me against aggro. But seems to suck. Spellstorm doesnt even kill imps. Infact, while it was active, I never once saw it kill anything. I never even noticed a health bar diminish because of it. I eventually just swapped Spellstorm out. I consider Spellstorm a waste of…
Don't know what to tell you man - maybe you've got the wrong investment in feats? I just did the shock trooper contest and won it again. Each of those had trash, one tough mob + the big monster demons. Just out of curiosity, do you have a companion? I also swill potions like crazy, but I rarely buy them - I must have over…
New player. Don't have tons of crazy gear, just what I've picked up and a few things I bought to fill in where my gear level was dragging way behind. Level 34. The wizard may be squishier than some, but with the array of CC and AoE abilities you have, there's no reason you can't out last / maneuver / kill the mobs in…
The problem with building too much into a role, is that people think you have to go all the way to an extreme to be useful. Threat is fun. It amplifies damage, etc. You know what works too? Actual freaking damage. Still new player here, but seen this in plenty of other places. Threat-locks are boring, and only useful in a…
I went with the cleric companion, and I tend to play very forward-offense. I do chug pots still, but I figure that's the price for my playstyle. I'm by no means an expert (only 21) but have had little problem. I did read a bit of the wiki and a few threads here, but they are mostly relevant to level 60 characters. * Put…
k - thanks Got a link to the incomplete ones? I was unclear. Does the % reduction based on defense apply to spells as well? This is one of those things that I'm sure the words I read don't mean what you think is obvious. I'm very familiar with AC and DR in D&D. That said, there are no rolls to-hit in this game - so AC must…
This is something DDO does so well and I wish NWO would do better. I hate being rooted to finish just about every animation. It makes the game ponderously slow feeling.
Nuh-uh! I'm phillymiket! I do like the grouping in DDO better. I kinda like the itemization in DDO as well in the "has an old PNP feel to it" ... that said, in the 4e games I've run we basically abandoned random loot. You get what you want, largely - everyone ends up with level appropriate stuff and it's just calc'd into…
