  • The, "yadda-yadda-yadda makes me a sad panda," thing is a meme that originated from South Park back in '99 or so and since then has become a decently common phrase around the internet. Know your meme Just because WoW has pandas doesn't mean all references to pandas on MMO message boards are therefore references to WoW.
  • People who really like something very often hate what changes it. I think a lot of the hate for 4th edition is simply because it's not 3rd edition.
  • They actually used 2nd edition AD&D rules, not 3.5ed. I think that aside from possibly Icewind Dale, all of those games initially came out before even basic 3ed was released. To be honest I was never really a huge fan of the third editions. Partly because it kind of felt like my character was a big spreadsheet with…
  • Except that's not completely how 4e does it. Sure you pick a sub-path or whatever you want to call it, but they don't limit either your usable weapons (the control wizard is completely free to pick a special ability relating to orbs, staves or rods for example) or the powers you chose. Basically if it were to be more like…
  • I would point out that the only games I've ever heard of that didn't end open betas with a sever wipe have been a couple games designed as F2P titles. So normally speaking you don't keep your stuff after an open beta. Though I suppose if F2P titles continue to be the 'norm' and they insist on calling their initial launch…
  • You know, honestly when a game is both willing to take your real-world money for its in-game cosmetic and 'convenience' items, and not going to do any character wipes on any of the servers then you've launched. I don't really care what the company wants to claim it is, but that's a launch not an 'open beta' no matter how…
  • Over the weekend I saw people speaking both French and German on Mindflayer as well as people recruiting specifically for non-US guilds. Then again, I tend to play at off-hours in the US so I'm much more likely to see them I think.
  • Wait ... why is AoE control the domain of the 'healing' class and not the 'control' class in your mind?
  • I'll take most any type of magic striker I can get my grubby paws on, but star pact is by far an away my favorite warlock pact. It's a shame we're not likely to see it since I imagine that if they ever get around to putting in a deceptive warlock class it's going to be a fey pact thing. Ahhh well, what can you do.
  • So I got to play Friday and a bit on Sunday where I got my CW to 20 just a little bit before the weekend ended. (I got a Trickster Rogue to 15 in about half the time on Sunday). I have to say, it's a pretty good DPS class, but absolutely wretched as a 'control' class. I tried playing specifically for control for a while,…
  • Yea, I guess Warlocks have some self healing powers in their lineup (and the infernal pact gives some temp HPs), but unless they're going to abandon all pretense of being based on 4ed D&D, the Scourge Warlock will most likely be pretty much full-bore DPS.
  • To be honest, all the classes look like they could be fun. That being said, I've always been a sucker for playing Wizards in D&D games since back when I started playing in 2e. So I'm going to have to say Control Wizard. About the only thing that could probably pry me away from that would be a psionic class of some sort
