I noticed the free respec after I posted but that still doesn't change the question of speed leveling the original classes while anyone wanting to create a HR being gimped from having the event a weekend earlier than release. I've leveled a TR for the upcoming Whisperknife path but I'm holding back now at level 26 until…
Quite honestly I think the Double XP event is a few days to early. The new module comes out on the 5th and you might want to change an alt's paragon path (without buying a token to restat), maybe keep the current path and add the alt path, or even make a new HR alt. Bringing the event already this weekend seems like…
BUG: POWERS I've double checked, Rapid Fire supposedly has an 80' range but when measured I'm exactly 6 shift moves away from target at level 1. Tool-tip says 1 shift moves 8' in any given direction but that's the same as TR so it must be shorter leaving max range potential at under 61' (probably around 37'-49'). For…
It's 3 feet with 1 point, an additional 5 feet for the 2nd and again 5 feet for the 3rd for a total of 13 feet (roughly 4 meters) according to the original tool-tip. Seeing all my powers come into range at the same time I'm certain it applies to all (At-Will, Encounter and Daily). Not sure if the range is actually accurate…
In a roundabout way that's what I was getting at, you already have 3 melee classes and no martial range so a hybrid will see little use of it's melee side for a while even with stellar skills.
When game developers have 3 melee oriented classes already and bring a new class into play with the potential for ranged play those looking for that type of style will flock to it while you have 2 types of melee players looking into it, those who don't like how the first 3 are played and those that are willing to try…
I've never been one trying to get on the top rankings of some PvP list or, with Neverwinter, skirmish/dungeon stats. I want a class that I can enjoy playing how I want but if I DO want to optimize it I can by using it's full potential. The devs nerfed range because melee wasn't getting enough attention in preview play,…
I can easily play TR as a stealthy assasin or a swaggering swashbuckler if I want. I can mix ranged and melee combat if I wish even without the Whisperknife path. I don't see "The class’ versatility and damage-dealing capability will make the Hunter Ranger an essential member of your next dungeon delve party" at the…
If I want to be told how to play a class then I'll play WoW, LotR or GW1, or I'll listen to the know-it-all PvPers and min-maxers. I play D&D because I can play how I want with relatively few given limitations.
I'll withdraw most of my arguments about range seeing that the supposed potential for 93' attacks isn't truly given. A level 1 HR should have an 80' range yet he has to get within 6 shift moves before he's in range. It says that a shift moves 8' in any direction but that's the same distance as a TR dodge so it must…
I knew somebody would try using Onis' video as "proof" that we're wrong. It's a very controlled environment he's using to show the viability as an archer, I can do that as well but why should I have to run all the way back to the original spawning zone in order to survive when I'm in a solo dungeon? I'll refrain from…
Nice video. I just hope this isn't used as proof that ranged dominant play is universally viable seeing it's in a relatively controlled environment, I've had little trouble with that so far. Where I see a bigger disadvantage is when you can't jump all around the map because of groups respawning with tough foes, as in…
"This class could use a little more range orientation." "No it doesn't, it's a hybrid so you can't play it as a strictly archer anyway." "This class still needs a little more range orientation to be a viable hybrid." "No it doesn't, you can already play it strictly as an archer." and now it's "No it doesn't, range is just…
Why is the class played strictly as an archer for the first 10 levels if range is an added benefit? Why is the bow the primary weapon? Any right handed archer carries the bow in his left (off) hand leaving room in the right (primary) for any type of melee weapon. I never claimed that HR was hybrid pre nerf, I'm being fed…
Obviously some still think because I'm voicing an opinion about where the so-called hybrid combat style is lacking that I'm attempting to push my preferred style of play on the class, I'm not. And it's exactly because of this that I continue over and over to state my opinion, so much so that I have to leave the forums so I…
volt it's said you don't HAVE to use TAB but should to use the full potential. HR is a hybrid range/melee so you don't NEED a pet. It's a single target striker. Sure I can remain using only one style of combat but only if I have a companion taking aggro for me otherwise I do need to use TAB to survive making both claims…
Read through this thread alone and you'll see what warzog is saying. First when asking for more range orientation to the class we're jumped on saying it's a hybrid class so you can't play it as a strict archer. Now where it's understood that we aren't demanding use strictly in one manner or the other we're hearing it…
Touche' lobo. :) As I posted earlier, it's not impossible to balance the HR, merely that Cryptic has opted for a very difficult way to go about it. HR MAY very well be survivable only using one form of combat or the other by the time it goes live, I just don't see that currently being the case. By the looks of Zebular's…
From Cryptic's own preview page of the HR stating very clearly that it is an either/or/both hybrid. Wording can be tricky but demanding a hybrid build would've changed "HR can switch" to "HR switches" in the 2nd sentence. But that's getting picky and beyond the point now. I believe we all understand that HR is to be a…
I believe you're correct but as you already quoted me, the current build is not aimed at a hybrid but mainly melee focused by preventing actually allowing effective use of both styles of combat. Even a 70-30% split is not truly attainable in solo play unless the HR keeps pre nerf and then it's ranged primary.
volt the difference is no single class demands using a particular feature offered that the other classes don't need. The power potential between classes always has been and always will be an issue regardless of how truly balanced they are. As for Neverwinter, those skills CAN be spammed for optimal potential of the class…
It's already clear that Cryptic wants HR to be using both range and melee skills and I can accept that concept but that said... A skillbar swap is nothing new for me, I already know it from the other fantasy mmo I play, GW2. It's not something I use unless I get a good synergy combo from it like bonfire/whirlwind axes to…
I can understand wanting to balance for PvP/group play but the class needs to be just as survivable and versitile in solo play so you aren't playing two completely different characters. It's broadly anounced that solo play is doable outside of skirmishes and dungeons and is the main reason I actually came to play. I enjoy…
Split Shot is a time delayed AoE, been to long since I tried Electric Shot to say if that also has a time delay in using it. Hindering Strike and Boar Charge are both single target so that you're not actually gaining time to escape unless you're facing a single target or have another player actively aggroing a mob away…
Agreed that the initial HR I made did have the feel of succeeding solely as an archer style and melee was a last resort effect to the build. I'll also agree that without careful consideration it's easy to make a survivable archer so overpowering that melee would still be ignored by many but that is easily fixed by not…
Again the attack on wanting a more defined range role in the HR by claiming it's a hybrid. I'm really frustrated in trying to explain that the current style of HR is NOT a hybrid but a melee with some longer range capabilities. With the exception of Marauder's Escape and a "lifesaver" Daily there is no viable means to…
