This morning, while going through the 1000+ backlogged mail messages from the auction house that don't auto-delete when you take the stuff out of them.... I got really tired of manually clicking everything so I set up my mouse to click spam while I held down the delete key. While doing this a mail message came in and it physically deleted 300,000ish AD that came in from the auction house... not sure why it is possible to delete mail messages with items and money attached to them but whatever **** happens. Now I am not too salty about the AD but it does suck that it was lost. What I want is for us as a community to say cryptic please do something about the mail system. It is clunky, out dated, and overall hindering to gameplay and offline communication.
The fact that the auction house goes through the mail instead of the player's inventory is a mess but it could be overlooked if one of the following options were put into place... like simple 2 hours jobs that any nit-wit script kiddy could have running in this game in a day's work.
1. Make a select mail message you can just easily select messages and mass delete based on selection. Like an email client. User friendliness is the first **** you learn even in high school level computer science, how this ever went un-attended to is beyond me.
2. If that is too much for you...real simple, not sure why it hasn't been done yet. Make auction house messages delete after retrieving the item. I mean even like... Ragnarok online has a "delete mail message upon receiving item" function, and the game is over 15 years old... please...
Sorry if I seem brash but honestly after years, many hours, and hundreds of dollars into this game I expect some of the simple stuff to have been ironed out by now. We were talking about and requesting a better mailing system in mod 1... YEARS ago... not acceptable

What we need are:
1. A sent items folder.
2. Custom folders.
3. The ability to toggle a setting so we only get email from the system/admins, fiends, guildmates, etc.

What I would like to see is a simple "no refresh" option when you open the mail interface, and put in a refresh button that you can click to update the mail queue when you want to. That would stop accidental deletes as new mail comes in, because it cannot come in unless you hit refresh...
Might is not always right - the powerful sometimes forget that.

This is the opening sentence of the main post...
If you play this game avidly, a week will pile up so many auction house messages its unbelievable...

Agree'd the reason I suggested faster auto delete is that I felt with their limited dev team, and track history with making any improvements towards suggested problem areas, it would be best if I offered a cheaper, easier solution that they might actually consider.
It doesn't stay forever, and I'm sorry I buy and sell constantly.... I don't want to have to scroll through like 10 seconds of mail messages to look at a message I recieved from a friend with the teamspeak info.. or anything of that nature... auction house messages should at the very least go to a junk auction folder, instead of cluttering the primary folder where your important messages go...
Let me just take a moment to say this: Do not. I repeat. DO NOT. DELETE MAIL FROM YOUR MAILBOX. If you are waiting for an auction to come through. I NEVER delete my old mail unless all my auctions are down and collected. There's too much of a chance for you to delete a payment on accident, and I don't think requesting help from a GM will get you anywhere.
Open Beta started in April 2013... it was around before that... mail organization has been a problem since way back then
It was actually in May, but thats still not 3 years.
The other issue, is this is not really a Neverwinter problem. The mail system is tied to the chat server. And the chat server is global for all of Cryptic's games. So any changes or alterations made to the system will have to done in a way that will not cause issue with the other games. And such changes will most likely have to come from another team not connected with Neverwinter. So the odds of anything actually happening are fairly low.
You don't need an auto-delete, but it would be nice to have check boxes in front of each mail item so that you can select and delete those items you want to delete in bulk. Lots of email accounts in the real world have this feature.

This doesn't really make sense. Even if they used the chat server for mail... which they don't because it doesn't handle item values that are tied to individual servers... Even if they did that does not stop them from putting a front-end UI that allows you to select and delete multiple mail messages... this is a 100% client side function they could put in with very little effort at all... The functionality is already there, its just a UI change.
pretty much every mail system in the world, and every game has this functionality, so I find it in-excusable for them to still not. It is a simple quality of life change that means a lot to people. I do know they have new devs and stuff, so I understand some delay, but at the very least they could acknowledge that the system is archaic and needs something to make it a more intuitive design.

You can send mail from any Cryptic game to any Cryptic game. Obviously it wont let you send items, but the mail system is still global. As far as proof of it being part of the chat system its fairly clear to anyone who has been around Cryptic games as long as you claim to be. I have seen more then a few Chat server outages, and the mail, and friends list always goes with it.
the ability to get mail at other locations as side protectors would be good as having to run all the way back there just to get something and then all the way back to were I was is a pain in the ***. Come on a mail box every once in a while the sky pirate is a real pain after getting deep in its a ***** to go back through. Give us the ability to buy pigeons to send and receive mail have them cost if you like but do something.

The current mail system is not perfect but I get used to it.
I take item and delete the mail right the way. I don't have the "accident".
I also "like" AH drop the item back to mail. Why?
1) it does not count against mail limit.
2) My secondary storage without affect my inventory limit.
e.g. I bought many stacks of scroll of identification from AH. I just keep them all in mail. When my 99 scrolls used up, I go to pick one up from the mail system (and delete that mail). For the stuff I fail to sell, I leave them in mail until other time. It again does not take my inventory/mail space.
When I think about the hundred L60 green junk I bought from AH during mod 5 to feed AE and if they all dumped into my inventory, I feel .....
Yes, there are many rooms to improve but I can deal with what I have now.
*** The game can read your mind. If you want it, you won't get it. If you don't expect to get it, you will. ***
With the up coming mod.....the Devs should place a mailbox in the deepest part of the Underdark (hate to be that mailman) where ya have to slice thru many Illithids and Beholders to reach.

They may factor in the possibility of the mailman be killed and all the mails will be lost in the equation. The 300K AD can be robbed.

Just have your mail sorted so that the newest shows up last instead of first. Then the newest mail does not pop up on top and accidentally get deleted, because it will go to the bottom. This sorting seems to get reset and needs to be set every time you log into the game though.

Better safe than sorry.
This! I can't tell you how many times I deleted something (back in the early days) that I had stored in my mailbox, because new mail came in and the empty mail I had SELECTED to delete became the next one up that still had items in it and because of that was deleted instead. There HAS to be a way to stop that from happening.
The best part is that CS REFUSES to assist in this case, even though this is due to game error, not user error.

I remember speaking with CS about this. They told me to use the blacklist feature. I drew a blank and had no idea what they were speaking of and when I asked what they mean they told me to "put them on ignore". I quickly gave up on any help from CS at that point since it looked like they never even read my complaint.
Ultimately all of these posts, while decent ideas on how to avoid accidentally deleting a message do not address the primary point of this post. Cryptic's in game mail system is outdated and shabby. As I mentioned before even if they are on the same mail server there is no reason for them not to allow multiple deletes in a single click, nor is there any reason for them not to allow folders for auction house or main, nor is there a reason for them to not dis-allows deletion of mail that contains objects. There are 100 different ways they could make un-invasive quality of life changes to a mail system that is frequently used by all players... and they choose not to. There is just no excuse, having the same chat servers, or mail servers, does not give them an excuse for having a bland and in-efficient front side UI. Sorry, I won't accept that and I hope that others will agree with me so that we can get at least a little traction in letting cryptic know that the half-assed approach was okay during beta, but with this game having been out for quite some time, there is no reason for the mail system to be so hard to work with.
This may seem as though I am spoiled by other games, but if that is the case I am not in the wrong for holding cryptic to the same standards. There is absolutely no excuse for them lagging behind on such a simple but important detail.

Caer Konig has two mailboxes...
But I remember having read that this is the full intent of the dev / design department - that you have to keep connected to PE.
It looks like the mail service only exists in relatively peaceful area instead of war zone.
The festival area also has mail service.
