Level 70 guide for newbies?

I'm level 68 now and should be 70 by this weekend, but I'm thoroughly confused on what I should be doing to get ready for 70 (and beyond). The game does a very poor job of giving direction. It just throws quests at you for the different zones with very little rhyme or reason for each one.

I have been able to piece together some info, just from reading the forums as much as I can, but it all still feels like one big jigsaw puzzle.

So if there's already a post/guide somewhere I can look at, that would be greatly appreciated. If not, maybe someone could fill in the information below to help me out.
  1. Spinward Rise - I believe I'm supposed to be doing vigilance quests here to eventually get a main hand artifact weapon. Is that correct? If so, does it just show up as some final quest I do at the end? Which vigilance quests do I work on, just any and all?
  2. I've seen mention of Sgt Knox giving us an offhand artifact at level 70. Does he just hand it to me after talking to him or is there a lengthy quest line involved or is there a quest I should already be working on for it?
  3. WoD - I've recently been going here and doing the dailies and some heroic events. I noticed the vender there sells level 61 gear. Is that gear worthwhile or pointless? Is there a way to upgrade it or is it just starter gear for level 70?
  4. IWD - I am beyond confused on the zone, the campaign, black ice, black ice profession, and how it all ties together. Is this something I need to be focusing on or wait until later and stick with Spinward & WoD for now?
  5. Sharandar - Is the campaign all there is to this zone? Work on it now or skip it for later?
  6. Drowned Shore, Reclamation Rock, Fiery Pit - Is there anything I need from these zones or are they just for leveling?
  7. Epic dungeons and Epic Skirmishes - should I start doing those as soon as I hit 70 with AH bought blues?
  8. Anything else I need to know about and focus on now or when I hit 70?

Thanks magenubbie, that helps a lot.

One more question (for now :))... IWD, is it just for the campaign or do I need to work on my black ice profession to get the gear?

You can upgrade some gear with Black Ice. Personally, I skip it all. I just really dislike that zone.

Sharandar, don't dismiss it so fast, it's easy, and ify ou are needing some level 70 greeens to replace old gear it's an easy place to do so.
plus the boons there are pretty easy, (well the first two anyway, but it all helps at 70), I currently have it on my dailies list of things to do.

I noticed no mention of Dread Ring, which if your are a newer 70, along with Sharander is a easier place to be, plus the boons help, and there are lots of folks there, I mostly run the Daily Small dungeon and whatever dailes are along the way, to build the boons there.

all of this is predicated on what class you are, I'm a prot pally, so i'ts a bit easier for me, my alt is a PVE group Archery build HR and it's super diffcult to level him, (leave comments about trapper out of it, ui'm not switching).

Also do the daily dungeon, I normally run ToS (normal), with daily key, it's super easy at 70 and get soem blue loot along the way.

I also PVP a bit, i'm not good at it and again, I'm in it for the dailies, and replacing some pieces that I'm stuggling to upgrade (ie my helm).

Hope this helps, i'm a causal player, so most of the items that require massive time investments are no good for me.

    Hope this helps.

#3. If you are using Level 60+ blue, you don't need them. It is cheaper to buy level 70 blue from AH.
#6. Drowned shore gives you 2 pieces of no slot underwear. If you don't have decent underwear, they can be helpful. It is free after all. If you already have mod 5 purple underwear (especially with slot), don't bother.

Once you hit level 70, consider going to Sharandar - the enemies there are only level 71, and you can get level 70 green gear as random drops.

Get the "compete a dungeon" quest from Rhix in Protector's enclave, and run any of the leveling dungeons, ( prefer Temple of the Spider). Equip any blue gear that is level 70, and that you can use. It is worth it to ID any other blue gear that's level 70, and either save it foe your alts or sell it on the auction house. Turn the quest in when you're done, and use the 3000 ADs it gives you to buy more blue gear off the AH.

Once you have better gear and a higher Average Item Level, (AIL), you should be ready to tackle the Dread Ring as well.

Work on getting some boons from Sharandar and Dread Ring under your belt, and also do your Tyranny of Dragons dailies, if you have time.

Once you're all decked out in blues, run some Kessel's Retreat skirmishes, and equip yourself in the Alliance rings, belt, and neck items. As soon as you are able, upgrade your chest armor with one that has an enchantment slot in it, (using the seals you also get from Kessel's, at the vendor in the Seven Suns Coster Market in PE) - if you have a coalescent ward saved up, (either from an invocation chest or otherwise), buy 4 shards of soulforged, and create a lesser soulforged enchantment for the aforementioned armor - it will really save your butt!

Again, once you have better gear and some boons under your belt, try running the Lair of Lostmauth. You can also keep running those leveling dungeons for the blue gear - either to directly use or to sell for ADs to buy other stuff.

    3. That's just starters gear to get you to lvl70.
    [...]

    This is not totally true...

...first, that gear is level adaptive - similar to the dragon bone stuff. So you'll have the stat buffs from a Lvl 70 armour if you don it as a Lvl 70 char. It's HP and total bonus sum are identical to random Lvl 70 blues, which can be bought cheaper on the AH. Next, though, it's the only easy-to-get chestpiece with an armor enchantment slot - until the next patch successfully and actually really gets deployed. So if you got that Soulforge lying around and the tokens and leftover moolah to buy that chest armour, it can improve your quality iof in-game life for a while.

Else it's disproportionately expensive and ugly, unless you're playing a redhead with a fancy for matched-colour armour...

Thanks for all the great info so far. It has helped tremendously. I'd be lost without this post (and magenubbie's guide).

So I finally hit level 70 and acquired both of my artifact weapons: off-hand from the short quest Knox gave me and main hand from doing the Spinward rise vigilance grind. It took me about 8 hours to complete the latter although I'm a prot pally so soloing it was fairly easy.

There are a few things I found out on my own that I'll note here for anyone else who's lost like me.

At 45 minutes past the hour, every hour, Dragons spawn in WoD. Look at zone chat a few minutes before the event to find out who's doing invites for "speed runs", which basically means they're zerging the dragons. They start with the dragon spawn in the NE corner of the map. There are some decent rewards for killing the dragons. One of which is an artifact belt. Because these belts drop fairly often, you can also find the one suited to your class for next to nothing (generally) on the AH (search level 70 green/uncommon waist for the term "Greater"). I bought mine for about 6k AD.

I had enough AD saved up to purchase the Epic quality shirt and pants for my class. It's expensive (80-100k AD), but worth the investment because it greatly increased my item score, which I needed in order to start running Epic Skirmishes (haven't braved Epic Dungeons yet). I also bought the chest piece from WoD with the campaign currency I saved up from doing the dailies there. The rest of my gear I bought off the AH. Rare quality items aren't that expensive.

The Epic Skirmishes (and I assume Epic Dungeons) give Seal of the Elements which are needed to purchase better gear.

I wasn't aware that level 70 items can be used to refine artifact equipment (main hand, off hand, waist, etc.), and runes/enchants cannot.

I already had a level 60+ alt so I was able to get the quest from the guy in the tavern in IWD to acquire my class artifact. The nice thing about this is once you complete the quest, you can use that same artifact on ALL of your characters, regardless of level/class. So even though the artifact specifies it's for a different class, you can still equip it it. Visit the Reward Claims Agent (check his "Level 60" tab) in Protector's Enclave to pick them up for your other characters (no cost). I got a friend to help me run through the quest on my alt, so I wound up with 2 secondary artifacts (score!).

Also, when you hit 70 you get a reward chest in the mail. Inside it is 50x Seal of the Elements, some potions and what not, and a coupon for 50% off the Blood Ruby Pack (3x Blood Ruby) which is 150,000 total refinement points for your artifact items. Do NOT use this coupon, even if you have the 1000 Zen for it. You can gain more refinement points by selling that 1000 Zen on the exchange and using the AD to purchase Resonance Stones (check whichever quality is the best bargain). You'll wind up with more than 200,000 refinement points worth of Stones.
