While I have no proof for it, I think you get slightly less XP in a party. When I leveled my rogue, I was extremely over leveled. I skipped the entire Ebon Downs zone because I was already over the level cap and got the Vellosk quest. I recently made a wizard and levelled the entire way to 60 with a friend and more than once (probably, 5 times in total) we had to stop questing and do PvP to get the required level to continue questing.

Well it is known that you get less exp from monsters when in a group, but I meant more if that you get less exp from other sources as well.

when you fight stuff you get exp based on the % of its hp you deal so if monster has 100 hp and gives 100 exp and you deal 30 dmg and your buddy deals 70 you get 30 exp he gets 70 exp.

so in this fashion TRs get the most exp generally and DCs get shafted

Have you been able to find any kind of posts or links that can verify that, or are you just saying it based on what you have tested in game, or is it just from word of mouth?

Word of mouth or even a fabrication maybe. I have levelled my DC with fellow TR, we tested if I had to deal any damage to a mob to get xp and the answer was NO. I stayed aside and watched my xp bar rising.

Although I dont have any detailed information on xp rates in party, I'm pretty sure it's not simply based on % of damage dealt.

Sorry for the massive necropost, but I can't find the answer to this anywhere and I can't post yet.

How does being higher level affect exp gain? My friend just got the game and I'm trying to help him level, but we just did a quest and he's not getting any exp whatsoever. Is this a bug or is the fact that I'm a higher level (21 vs 4) HAMSTER him out of exp?

I'm not even attacking anything at this point, and he's still not getting any exp.

You could also make your own post... anyway, yes, by helping him you're taking away his exp since you're killing everything before he can even hit npcs.

He said he can't post yet.

It has nothing to do with killing things too fast. If you group with someone around 7 levels higher you get no experience even if you do the killing.

However, the majority of experience is gained from quest turn-ins, which won't be affected as long as you're picking up the quests yourself (I've read they grant less XP if someone just shares the quest instead of you initiating it yourself). Grinding mobs is slow XP gain even alone.
