Making shapeshifting mechanics would take lots of work, and if the druid is not going to have shapeshifting abilities and just be another flavor of caster he might as well not exist.

Voted for runepries, as they are my favorites - however after paladin they are no more as needed. Since they are also divine melee class which specializes in tank/heal/buff/debuff. And they have great mechanics for tab already - changing runestates deffensive/offensive/utility(speed)/etc. With an effect radius close around them.

If they going to release a sorcerer... I'm gonna cry probably lol. I love my CW and the only reason why I play him is because CWs are the best PvE class in game (AoE damage). Sorcerers are pure DPS caster, they are master of AoE spells. I don't want to give up on CW and start farming refine stones again xD

Anyways, we got WR (caster), HR (melee/ranged), Paladin (tank/healer?). I have this feeling like, next class would be another caster or probably caster/melee mix. Btw, Bard would be nice. They have the ability to give us haste (good for speed runs), attack and defense boost also. Heck, it's unpredictable lol... I'm more curious to what people think. If the druid next.. how you guys see PW implement them. What's gonna be their primal role (CC - heal?), how about tap mechanic.

I've been dwelling on this for a while now.

Note: Names of mechanics are examples of purpose in meaning but should be named to reflect 5th Edition.

How to make Druids Work within Current Action Combat Mechanics:

    The Communion Druid
    • Add an additional Page for Druids before Campaign Boons page.
      • Populate this page with an array of nature animals/beasts commonly found in the Realms.
      • Druids unlock these animals by means such as leveling, class quests, and druid specific achievements.
      • Druids can drag an unlocked animal/beast onto their Tab Slot.
    • Import Cleric Divinity mechanics into the Tab mechanics, call it Communion.
      • Require at least 1 pip to press Tab.
      • Pressing Tab with at least 1 pip in Communion will shapechange the druid into the tabbed animal.
      • The more pips you have in Communion when Tabbed into Shapechange, the more powerful your shapechange will be and the longer it will last.
      • Your Communion bar slowly decreases as you remain in Shapechanged form at a rate of 20 seconds per pip (example).
      • Regaining Communion while shapechanged is only possible when:
        • "Natural Balance" You receive a single hit that deals 25% (example) or more of your Max Health in one hit, gain 1 pip.
        • "Ordered Balance" Any party member receives a single hit that deals at least 25% (example) of their Max Health in one hit, gain 2 pips.
      • When your Communion bar reached empty, you revert to your humanoid form.
      • You may press Tab at any time to revert to your humanoid form, consuming 1 pip or the remainder of Communion if at or below 1 pip.
    • When Shapechanged, the Druid's encounter slots and at wills automatically populate with Melee or Ranged attacks, based on the animal/beast slotted and Druid Level (eg, slots locked due to level, won't populate with an encounter/at-will).
      • Features have a dual purpose and do something differently when Shapechanged.
      • Dailies have a dual purpose and do something differently when Shapechanged.
    • While in humanoid form, Druids will be able to choose from an array of druid spell/power/attack encounters, at-wills, features and dailies, like how other classes function.
    • Other necessary things related to classes that work in current mechanics (stats, feats, paragons, etc).

Given that we have beast companions with 2-3 attack animations already in the game, my suggestion for Druid would be to make the class mechanic or <tab> slot hold a beast companion. You would assign the companion to the slot the same way you assign potions to 4-6. The companion chosen would determine what shape you can take, and could also determine your at-wills as a beast (although having Dog's Takedown as an at-will might be overpowered).

My question though is *why* druids would change forms. If beast and caster form have different encounters with different cooldowns, as with HRs currently (and DCs, really) -- maybe a druid would shapeshift whenever it's up, to cycle those cooldowns. In which case, beast form duration would not be an issue.

If beast form is more of an Unstoppable-like buff -- duration would have to be limited, and it would be dangerous to use in PvE. You wouldn't want to be standing in red when the buff runs out, because you're a squishy caster.

EDIT: Oh yeah, with my system druid players would have to get a free BoP beast companion at level 10. A lynx would be cool.

Monks are a personal favorite, even though they don't seem as necessary to the game as a whole. While I generally dislike NW's "This class only uses this type of weapon" design, I think it would thrive with monks, allowing a better adherence to unarmed combat thematically. Rather than +6 robes or the suspension of disbelief shattering "flaming handwraps" the whole "gear" thing could be largely thrown out the window for armor and weapons. Sure, they could still have gear they could equip, like nunchucks and sai, and those would work the same as existing weapons do, but you could instead choose to equip things like "styles" and "techniques" and "forms" to represent the unarmed combat skills.

Of course, what I'd like even more than a monk would be a medium-armored crossbow wielder, mostly ranged with a stock strike or two for melee. Thief skills. Less fancy armor. Chain with some plate reinforcement. None of this stuff that looks like elven leaf-weaving playing itself off as plate/scale. More of a Neverember Guard feel, but with crossbows.

    My personal order of preferance:

    1. A Songblade bard! I would be nice to have another rogue style class and bards would be a great support class for others. Bards have always been a big part of The forgotten Realms setting in general and the Harpers as well. There is a reason they are called "Harp"ers after all. Given that this game is based in a city bards are a perfect fit. Would be neat if bards could open any skill node without a kit, albiet with only a 75% chance of success.

    2. A Wildshape/Mooncircle Druid. Only request here is please try to find two shapes that are not a Bear or a Cat. A Boar and wolf perhasp? The again bears are quite cuddly. I do not see any issues with shapechanging (make the forms a slotable tab skill or even a class feature that once sloted is permament) but please spend a decent amount of time on the shapeshifted art work.

    3. An Elemental Monk. Either open hand fighting or really cool staff animation would be fine with me.

    4. Wildmage Sorcerer. Love the idea that there spells hit 133% harder but 25% of the time you get a flower ball instead of a fire ball.

    I love arcane spellcasters.
Would really like to see sorcerer!

I have Warlock but it isn't my style!
It has too much unfixed broken feats and its too popular between FOTM-only players.
The majority of them are former GWFs but I think Sorcerer would be really loved by arcane spellcaster lovers!

Elemental Evil just seems to cater directly toward the Druid class. Wish they would have released the Druid instead of the Paladin!

I really hate bursting your bubble, but druids are more like "wrath of the nature". In fact, module 6 is about Tower of elemental evil. It's based on the dark temple http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Temple_of_Elemental_Evil. Where evil spirits rest. So, it's actually suggesting "any" divine fighters, and someone like paladins would fit perfectly.

But anyways!! I also like to see druids next :) They are kinda like Hunter Rangers, but manipulates earth and lighting magic very well. They also have strong connection between spiritual world and able to perform some mind blowing things.

I vote druid because its the only class that could possibly get me to switch from my main being a cleric (unless favored soul was still a thing, but I don't think it is as its difference from a cleric would make no sense anymore with 4th edition rules).

Yes, that and it would almost certainly be a shapshifter druid, not heals (specially with just getting a healer class.

I definitely want druid too, but I would prefer monk first, and NOT a caster druid for sure.

Monk 100% of the way. In fact my enthusiasm for a monk class is enough that I invested tons of time to make a fairly detailed attempt at a monk class which would be fit for Neverwinter Online. If you're interested you can check my signature (SHAMELESS ADVERTISING!).

I votet for other and the answer is in this thread:

Balance those 48 setups before freaking the game further up

The current system is a mess. if you already have paragon-pathes, they ARE the sub-classes. Monk is a cleric that paragons on close combat. A ninja is a rogue that does the same. Fix the system before further messing with the symptoms.

As long as they dont introduce a logical approach to powers / features, ANY new class will just make things worse.

We already have 48 different setups. All your names in the poll may be subsummized into those. balance them!

All I'd hope for is that when they finally do Monk, that it is similar to the monk from original Neverwinter... multiple quick but low powered strikes, no range capability, but moves **** quick and has good evasion.. Was so fun being nigh unhittable, even if it took me a while longer to kill anything when I used to do the PW's in NWN :)

I'd love to see a Spellsword/Swordmage in the game as a primary defender secondary leadership/control. So many cool ideas.

But we just got a new tank and leader, so I think a Druid or maybe even a Bard is probably what's needed more at the moment. It'd be great to have a new primary controller apart from the control wizard to add variety.

Spellscarred would be a brilliant addition, particularly because it ties in so deeply with the lore that it deviates from standard archetypes. I'm imagining a class that uses erratic magic, someone that has fairly little control over the sheer force that corrupts and destroys not only the spellscarred's enemies but also himself. As for the class mechanism, I'd imagine that being something akin to what Dorothea does in her questline, particularly in the event of the spellscarred falling low on health.

I apologize if this question has been asked before. Last night I was creating a new character and noticed a ninth class covered by a coming soon notice. I have been playing D&D since the late 70s, and in my opinion and my opinion only, Neverwinter has stayed true to the D&D classes. The only iconic classes that I see missing are Barbarian, Bard, Druid and Sorcerer. Yes I know there were others introduced in 4E D&D, but I am talking about what I call iconic. With all the classes available so far, Neverwinter covers the Arcane, Divine and Martial power sources well. So hopefully the next class will be primal source character which would be either a Barbarian or Druid.
So, any guesses as to what the next class will be?

    Ponies!

I pray we don't get the derpy RDD (fake dragon infusions, not a real race template), or the even worse Purple Dragon Knight.

Shadowdancer is a possible even though it's a Rogue supplement.

    Wild Mage would be fun.
