Thanks Dwight MC and all the devs for fixing this. I promised in the NW LEGIT channel that if it is in fact fixed, the mods will get out of dealing with me on the forums absolutely free! So for 2 weeks, I will be on my best behavior.

What i meant was... when 10 different users "report spam" on the same text string, a message would be sent to the moderator, reporting the specific string that was reported by all 10 people.

This already exists in the game. When a user is marked as spam, the entirety of the message is flagged and sent to a moderation queue. However, text-based filters are ineffective as spammers will constantly change up and butcher their message. Usually it's send three messages, get muted, switch to another account and repeat. They move faster than any human monitor can keep up with. It's a couple hundred (or thousand, even) against a small team...this isn't just a few people in a small office; we're talking levels of personnel on par with your average large corporate call center.

Nice idea however counter measurements are really easy for botters:
Add a random string generator - every message a bit different therefore the filter would not detect it. therefore moderator woulnt be able to keep up with them as you didn't with the ignoring.
And filtering by parts of the string is a dangerous subject - botters will find new ways to express themselves - 1337 and uncommon chars in advertising strings, Caps - no caps sequences, obviously meaningless numbers interrupted in strings, different spacing, sequences of messages - cant filter them all. And the filter can not be used on frequently used words therefore the moderators job would be kinda pointless unless some superior spam detecting software were introduced.

Any automated filtering is better than none. The game/forum has 0 automated spam/bot protection.

There are some pretty easy to implement solution that would at least reduce the amount of spam / bots.

A simple pattern based filtering should be able to reduce the amount of spam. Sure, rules would need to be added manually, but it shouldn't require adding more than a couple of hundred rules, at most, and you can base your rules on the texts reported as spam.

A simple behavior check should combat the majority of bots. No human being can use the exact same route 30 times in a row, but bots do, since you usually set them up by manually going through the route once, then the bot just repeats it. Macros and auto-clickers can be noticed by the amount of sleep between the commands, if you have the exact same sleep pattern repeating for minutes it's a bot.

Also handles like @dslfhasdlighdslgi shouldn't be allowed.

As for the forum, a simple Bayesian filter should do the trick. That would be able to filter out the attacks like the recent mtgoox spam. Also, i can't believe vBulletin has no plugin for spam filtering.

These simple steps should be able to filter out the majority of dumb bots. We will still have bots, since the more advanced ones try to simulate human behavior, but afaik none of that exist as free download available to everyone, most of those are used internally by big gold-farmer companies, who can be sued.

Now clicking anywhere on the mail window selects the address field, making it impossible to open your inventory with a key shortcut.

Now clicking anywhere on the mail window selects the address field, making it impossible to open your inventory with a key shortcut.
Click on the first tab, and not compose tab. Open inventory with key, click compose tab. Before leaving the mail interface, click the first tab again and next time you open the mail interface, the first tab will open first, allowing you to also open your inventory right away before clicking on the compose tab.

Some of the sneaky patchnotes that aren't here:
    CN:
On the magical shifting platform between xivros and talgarth the watcher, the 2 thayan wizards on the platform on the far left and back, who were previously removed from the game, have been reimplemented.
The gates at the above mentioned platform and the gates at the invisible wall later on in CN have lost their ethereal nature and once again have collisions.
The mysterious Castle Never lag has been reimplemented, as players seem to lack challenge there, it was obviously something necessary.
    Dread Ring:
In the dread spire the cages in the one room were obviously a bit lacking in size and a few extra 0's have been added to their mesh size to make them more imposing.

I'm glad someone addressed your concern with a work-around...but this has been a feature of the mail system since beta.
