How did you think upgrading those profession dudes worked?
I always figured that when you upgrade the 4 lower level guys to make 1 higher level crafter, you put them into a battle royale to the death, and the winner got a promotion... (maybe I've seen too many klingon episodes of Star Trek.)

To be honest I thought of a similar thing, they kill each other and the guy who is left has enough XP to level up...
This would likely explain why there are more adventurers than craftspeople/vendors in RPGs, and the exorbitant prices for items from a vendor. It's a risk vs. reward thing. Adventuring is much safer... Adventurers get to resurrect at a spawn point, you never hear from the 3 missing craftspeople again. :-P
This is the most hilarious thread I've read for a long time in nwo forums
In all seriousness though, I also have imagined upgrading profession ppl was choosing one out of 4, only not in a mortal kombat fashion but as if they took a test or exam or something. But a fight to the death in a 4 man arena sounds plausible too .

And the ones who fail the test are never heard from again?
This general theme works for horses or anything 'meaty'. Have a race, fastest horse (or whatever) isn't turned into pet food and clearly showed speed worthy of next level status.
suppose they could adopt this, but exclude the horses you can buy from the mount vender (as people would pretty much have a free 110% mount). But then they'll likely make zen mounts not accoude wide unlock and this'll only apply to event mounts if zen mounts stay account unlocked
Mount upgrade licenses are already in the game. There is no need for another way to upgrade your mount.
On the other hand, players with the fastest mount may obtain slow mounts that may look good but not practical to ride. I think some form of license or unlock that allows a player with one of the fastest mount to ride slow mount at the highest speed without upgrading all of them may be feasible.

Yeah, and their cost for upgrading ONE mount for ONE character is higher than buying a rank 3 mount from the Zen store that is unlocked for the entire account.
Even if I had 10 million AD just laying around gathering dust I would STILL not buy the training tomes.

You know they are not going to give your free mount upgrade, right? So character unlock for mount upgrade for a reasonable price is as good as I can think of, and it will be better if it comes with a stable, parking lot or whatever you call it, so we can store all the idle mounts.

Some people fall in love with a model and have to have it. It's why legendary mounts go for so much on the ah. I don't get it, but if it makes them happy.

The difference there is that their rarity adds to their attractiveness. It feels more special and is something people are more likely to pay higher for.
Though originally noone liked the emperor beetle that at the time went for only 1m AD. Not sure if they didn't like the 110% speed or what.

That's why it always made more sense too me for mount upgrades to be cheaper. People could upgrade but have something that looks like everyone else or pay more for something unique.

I don't really care for fusing mounts, but the special event mounts need to also behave as mount transmutes, so they are not totally worthless and can be enjoyed by everyone after you get them.
What if they had stat bonuses while equipped, like generic artifacts?
Anyway, I would like a more cost effective way to upgrade mounts as well. The mount transmute idea is interesting, so long as it wasn't called that and the mount's name still changed (something more akin to an energy transfer). Apparatus of Gond - Transmuted into: Blue Ribbon Pig - doesn't align in me old think tank too well.

Yeah, no. I have yet to see someone transmute a horse into a sled.
They have that in many other f2ps. You fuse pretty much anything to get something better, with an increasing chance of failing (and the $$ tool that you buy with real money in the game shop and guarantees the success). In my main MMORPG you can fuse enchants, companions, gear, and skill augments, something that improves a given skill, say, your Entangling Force lasts half a second more.

Didn't know Lord Neverember was so big into genetic engineering!

Not sure about sleds though.

Actually the math on companion upgrade prices is pretty close.
As close as combining four green swashbucklers from gifts of simril? Not so much.
When last I did the math it was just a little above buying a companion at 500:1 from the zen store.

Oh wait.
Not gonna spend money or grind for it..
