Is it even possible to get a Haarl's Treatise to drop without a Mystic Dragon key? I have no interest in the new helmet or an artifact weapon, I'm only in it for the Boons, and need that book...but if it isn't worth running the Shores of Tuern without the key, it becomes an every-other-day thing.
You don't have to accept the contents of the bonus chest if you don't want to, and if you don't you don't use the key. So you can keep on running it and only accept the chest when it has the item you want in it.
It is possible but the tomes are at the very bottom of these heavily diluted loot pools along with the artifact belts, don't get your hopes up for this to drop pretty much ever...
Both chests are the same, btw, there is no difference in their loot pools.
The drop rates are just very very low. Boons are essentially leveling and RNG ability to level is making me question continuing at this point.
I have the same sentiments.
I am really disappointed with module 4, the lazy coding, lazy designs and still a lack of an endgame. Heroic encounters and dungeons revolve around RNG, too many dailies that gate the content and unlike module 3's open world pvp, this module did not TRY to introduce a viable endgame mode.

Mod 3: The least rewarding, still somewhat repetitive content
Mod 4: Overall unrewarding with low drops rates/bop, more variance but still repetitive content. Will be more of a pain to complete for new characters created after this module.
By the 2nd module was enough for me to realise I need to create a stable income without needing to run the content. When they've failed to give us real content that even came close to what CN provided us with for 4 whole module. I think it's clear that we're just not going to get it. They lost sight in what made this game fun and think d&d stands for dailies and dailies.

Until this module mod1 was probably the worst with it. Long process, lots of dailies, spark grind is huge. The last 2 boons of mod4 makes module 1 look like the promised land. Doing every mod 4 daily every day it'll take 40 days to get the last boons, except for the extremely lucky or the rich. I dream of having it so good as module 1.

I got sick of sharandar very quickly, doing it 8 times does that. For this campaign I've not quite got sick of it the same way. I am disappointed in the lack of rewarding content for the game to offer me and hence kind of sick of the game in general since I feel like it's offering me less and less. I wasn't going to burn myself out on mod 4 like I was kind of doing for mod 3, but I found out dragon hoarding enchants were really good so I decided to farm all 8 of my toons and managed to get 50 lessers which gave me 5 greaters and enough for 3 normals for the double rp event (I have no life :c). That was from doing mostly, 2/3 zones per day but 1 or 2 weeks before the event it was getting too much so cooled it. Right now I'm not sure I should bother with the 4th/5th boons on most of my toons and aren't that compelled to do it on the two I'd mostly want them for. Not sure what it is, but I still hate sharandar the most. Not sure if that will change or if it's because I feel less required to actually complete the last 2 boons, but sharandar has made me hate even farming fey blessings for rp, while I can deal with farming dragon hoarding enchants.
I wish they reduced the spark requirements for unlocking the 3rd area and the 3rd-5th boons for sharandar. You can unlock the first 2 boons very quick, and the rest is just way too slow, even with the 6 day coffers. As for mod 4, they should definitely increase the drop rate of the boon unlocks. It's so rare that casuals are probably better off selling the boon unlocks. Either way we still have the probably of most of the content being isolating and unrewarding. It was so unsettling to see blue loot drop from MC, that's the one thing that made me really hate the dungeon at the time. People did 2/3 for the most time/reward which was unfair for gwfs and dcs that needed the full run for their off hand.
Would've been nice for them to realise the error of their ways after module 1 instead of carrying on the pattern. I have been gaming since being a kid but gaming over recent years seems to be disappointing to me. Not sure why. Some of it would be down to the selfish, entitled, arrogant, elitists, ragers and other negatively affected people. Some of it is down to my own flaws. I recognise this game has a tonne of flaws that have especially been showing up since late last year which affected my enjoyment. But I do wonder if gaming is still for me when over the years there's been some times of enjoyment, but for the most part just a distraction. Another flaw I have is being forgiving, finding it hard to let go of games and hard to get into something new. I got into this game because of the neverwinter brand, someone I liked played neverwinter nights though can't play anymore, another friend wanted me to come play which I did, the game was nice originally so kept at it and then am at the point where I progressed so much I don't want it to go to waste. Didn't really get to play with that friend much, he moved on and bugged me to play other games but I decline since I'm a pain to get into other games .
I write too much sometimes... I guess I've spent way too much time here and have a lot to say. Feel free to be tl;dr. I'll stop before I go further into my life story...

That is how I feel about the past 4 modules as well. Very very disappointed.
I really really hope the devs do read the feedback and start working on some endgame
Back to the OP's question:
Near the reward claims agent is a dragonborn vendor. You can buy both books from him. They're expensive (100 coins, sigils, and scrolls), but they're an option.
I got sick of sharandar very quickly, doing it 8 times does that. For this campaign I've not quite got sick of it the same way.
TOD I am actually happy with. Loving it. Bringing up Sharandar though... That's like the worst and the best.
Sharandar was/is a problem because its just to long and the huge wall you hit a few days in. The first few days you feel like you are progressing well. You quickly get a couple boons, unlock a new area... then BAM! At that point you need 5 days worth of daily tokens from the new area to open the next. Along with a week or so worth sparks. You are probably also on the third boon. But you can't even start working on it until you open the last area. And when you do, it takes another 6 days worth of daily tokens. And 10 days of sparks (counting at least one weekly).
In my opinion they really should shorten the whole Sharandar campaign anyway. I can think of no reason it needs to be twice as long as Dread Ring.
Repetitive content/grind is a necessity to be able to provide content that can fill as much of the time to next module release as possible. Making nonrepetitive content will just require too much effort.
When that is said, I feel mod 4 has several undesirable features to it:
* The grind is too long, in particular the grind for the two last boons
* The dailies take too much time each day. 5 dragons with two quests each, one instance, the occasional weeklies and then the event dailies on top easily means you spend 90+ minutes just doing that. With my casual playtime I don't have time for anything else, and doing the same stuff all the time gets boring.
* The Dragon HEs do not work well. Having to wait 1-10 minutes for each dragon to pop means 1-10 minutes of idling. Boring. Cryptic really missed he target on this, in particular since we have to do it 5 times a day.
* The droprates of good stuff, at least in the skirmish, are too low. Running the skirmish is rather unrewarding.
* We got masses of dragon coins with nothing to do with. If we at least could use the dragon coins for something useful the feeling of being rewarded for killing the dragons would be better.
I am staring to have feelings lke 'why do I bother' about this.
Back to the OP's question:

That single option is the epitome of one of the most laziest, un-fun game design I have ever seen.
100 sigils, 100 cult secrets for the 4th and 5th boons?
That is 200 dragon fights over 1-3months PER boon.

Well, if we do the math:
If one fights all 5 dragons and does all 5 location daily quests and the daily lair, that makes 5 sigils and 7 secrets; dragon coins rain like, well, rain. so, the controlling factor is sigils. If one spends no sigils and no more than 2 secrets a day, one can buy 1 book after 20 days. That's not too bad a trade-off for low RNG or not purchasing SoT/LoL

6 secrets a day, so in a week you can (if I added it all right) get 42 secrets and 38 sigils a week (more if you get common cause in wc). They're both similarly a bottleneck. It's 5 weeks in 5 zones for both boons, the time taken isn't bad, but the work, ie 5 zones is pretty high.

The problem is doing the dailies is actually worse than Sharandar.
I have to go to 5 different zones, in most of them run deep into the zone. On average, I will have to spend 8-10 minutes idling waiting for a dragon spawn. Run all the way back out.
As much as Sharandar is a grind, and I do think the last 3 boons were very very poorly designed there (500+ sparks?) , I do like the zone and the quests.

You want people to fight all 5 dragons each day? Wait around for several minutes on each one then ride their mount to get there because Cryptic wants to artificially extend their content? Spend that much time on dailies? This is a game, not work. Cryptic should be paying players if that's the kind of logic we're going with.

Mod 4: Overall unrewarding with low drops rates/bop, more variance but still repetitive content. Will be more of a pain to complete for new characters created after this module.
Mod 2 is by far the least grinding and most rewarding content of them all: you only had to run a quick lair a day (5 min) and you get G. Marks (always), enchantments or Peridots (always), Marks of Potency (not often, but from time to time) and a free artifact (rare drop) that you can use to refine others (I got 8 Eyes so far). The dungeon that came with it (VT) is also very rewarding in a sense that you could easily get very good weapons for your character.
Mod 3 is very repetitive too and has much more grind if you want to complete your set and it has too much RNG involved.
Mod 4 is complete <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>: far too much grind and almost no reward: the sets of armor are garbage, the artifact belts never, ever drop and the artifact weapons are OK, but not very much better than a set of Fallen Dragon/Fomorian and they also involve a large cost to refine.

Well mod 2 was good in the fact it wasn't as much of a burden, the marks weren't enough for me to feel like it was worth it to do except for the boons, and at the time I did it on 6 toons, after months I only got 1 artifact at the end. It was just too rare. The dread weapon set coming from the chest was pretty decent, however once you got it there was no reason to do it. As for the dragon weapon set the drops were rare, fragments were cheap and also rare that if you wanted a weapon set you could just do CN split runs and afford to buy one piece after 5 runs and still continue to run it to make AD. Once you got your weapon set from VT if that's what you want there's no reason to really run it and even that isn't a necessity, especially if you had fomorian.
Current make up: Do tonnes of dailies of the same content over and over. Do dungeons a few times, not really necessary. Ok you're now done with the good content, nothing else to get. Continue doing dailies. Why making the focus on dailies being the main content? Most people don't even like them.

Glad to hear im not the only one bummed out. Love the game, love the content, i even like the carrot.
Ive given up with my other 5 characters and tried to focus on one, after opening over 200 chests ive got one Charisma belt and lost the desire to even do my dailies with that one.
Havent done them today, only reason i want to log in is to invoke for leadership points.
Things just feel like they are mess and im burnt out working at this game.
I don't like Sharandar but its better than tyranny. Back Before artifacts, boons, perfect enchants and rank 10s Malabog's castle was an exciting challenge. The loot was garbage but it was still a decent length and fun.
Valindra's tower was worse because it was just a mob corridor but the boss fight made up for it because enough was going on.
Idewind Dale was bad but whatever, it was for the pvpers. You know, cowards who don't like real pvp games.
Tyranny is just abysmal. Its all waiting for dragons, appalling bad lairs and an easy bad dungeon with no real chance of anything good. Like I'm used to them giving us nothing worthwhile but the easiness and shortness matched up against how dreadfully dull the boon grind is, its like a slap in the face.
The only thing that give me hope is that tyranny of wagons had a short development time. Maybe some more substantial stuff is in the works. Like they could make difficult boss fights in sto so why not this. Of course they also made people go chasing space rabbits for months which is like tyranny.
As bad as tyranny is, I prefer it to Sharandar which is the absolute horrible way to implement dailies. Plus, let's not forget Sharandar didn't introduce any endgame either.

Im on my 3rd day of not logging in...
Simply put ToD isnt good, its really bad, and for every alt you have it gets worse and worse.
RNG is bad, the playerbase has pretty much spoken on this to start with, we just want to earn our boons for these things so we can run DD's.
Release DDs , Release 10 man raids, Release new dom matches or ten man dom matches (I would prefer that.. ten man matches would be awesome sauce)
Rework Gaunt , make legendary skirms and t2s with boe sell stuff..
I might go back in and play again.. but frankly, if they release another one of these sets like ToD, I know im done, I just dont have it in me to do this again.
I think they should rename the module Tyranny of Coffee. All I do when playing is drink coffee. Run to dragon, go make some coffee, drink coffee, wait, drink some more, kill dragon. Run to next Dragon, make more coffee, drink more coffee, wait, kill dragon, etc. etc. etc.
How did anyone think this was a good idea? If it was 2 dragons a day, ok, but 5 with all that waiting? I might as well do something else....
You don't have to accept the contents of the bonus chest if you don't want to, and if you don't you don't use the key. So you can keep on running it and only accept the chest when it has the item you want in it.
I heard you get kicked when there is something in the chest.

Amen to that lol
Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, Life is but a dream.
You guys forget. Cryptic isn't in this for the fun. They are in it for the money. And whatever they can do to string us along until we need to buy some zen is good for business.

Vænna Thrymskjöldr - IV Protector GF
Ive given up with my other 5 characters and tried to focus on one, after opening over 200 chests ive got one Charisma belt and lost the desire to even do my dailies with that one.
Havent done them today, only reason i want to log in is to invoke for leadership points.
Things just feel like they are mess and im burnt out working at this game.
How did anyone think this was a good idea? If it was 2 dragons a day, ok, but 5 with all that waiting? I might as well do something else....
I heard you get kicked when there is something in the chest.
Amen to that lol
