For PvE CW is still by far the best choice and has been ever since launch.

It is also an extremely safe choice since even if their incredible AoE DPS is reduced in future they will still be extremely sought after for their control abilities.

The wizard is elegant and poised with some cool AOE and control powers. The warlok is feral and powerful with killer DPS. I'm usually more of the DPS type but I've done control in other MMO's and did well.

Which would you recommend? which class would you say is more enjoyable both as a solo and in parties?

If you're more of the DPS type, either class won't let you down. The no-fail option, with added control and a history of being the game's "favorite", would be CW. If you want pure offense and aren't scared of future fixes or getting hit, a Fury warlock is for you (you can always go Temptation for a change of pace.)

To your observation about the nature of each class, well, what are you more like? Cool and calculating or sadistic and reckless?

Personally, I suggest joining the dark side .

Well CW vs SW. What to say 1 it completly depend of what you want to play. But i would say the SW is more polivalent in the build than the CW. SW are more individual target but due to more def and run ability it quite easier and probably easier to up until a certain gear. On the oposite CW are very hard to play unless you get you hand on some weapon enchant and starting a certain gear. + building PVP and PVE characther for CW is quite harder. how ever once you get the good enchant and the correct build, there is no way to surpass CW dps in practicaly all T1 T2 dongeon since it doing mass damage on mass mob while SW do more damage value but due to the amount of mob it far from reach CW total amount.

CW also is superior in PVE, sure the SW damage is comparable

This is a big understatement! Fury SWs are out dpsing CWs and HRs by far with TT.

Average SWs are giving 4-5 millions or more in Lol to a well geared CWs in Lol.
In CN the difference maybe a little less big but still.

Well, in PVE you can be whatever you want to be. If you find at least 4 dependable people to run content with you're set. So for PVE its a tie, for PVP the warlock needs to be invisible. Really, if he gets noticed, he gets taken out

Fury Sw outdpses CW, only exception could be cn. Is it coz TT, probably.... but still its what i notice in the charts.

most of the good sw u see running around are still say a couple K gs below too, once that is equalized the difference will be bigger.

I personally am pretty tied with SW with my hr and generally out dpsing cw, havent run with best, but im not bis either. but as im saying in that comparison with Sw im usually 2k+ gs over them and LOL is pretty good for HRs with so much single target.

For me paingiver by class is:

    Sw

    CW/HR depending on instance

    rest

Unstoppable is not a friend of CWs.

That said, if a mob is Unstoppable the SW will rule.

If you're in doubt because of the theme of the class... what do you prefer: 'Freeze to Death' or 'Burn to Death'?

Tyrannical threat is currently bugged and instead of spreading the SW's damage (as the tooltip says), it spreads on surrounding npcs all his team member's damage. Which means the spell is doing 4 times the intended damage. So if you want to do twice the amount of damage anyone does go for it but don't complain if/when they fix this spell.

    Tyrannical Threat only?

They have the best armor sets in the game!
Their Accoursed diabolist gives them 10-20% dmg according to ACT.
Sets like Avatar, HV is not even close...

I have seen some amazing things from some SW, and some lackluster from others. Did an epic LoL with two SW, a TR, and a DC. Damage was SW #1 - 27 mil, TR - 6 mil, SW #2 - 4 mil, DC - about 1.5 mil. The lead SW was pretty much maxed out in gear (legendary, rank 10's, etc) and a skilled player as well. I guess it is the bugged TT but I know in many cases that in a single battle an SW can go from the back of the list in damage to double the next closest player in a matter of seconds.

My CW used to be aggro magnet before, but now her damage has been lowered as many of my powers affect the whole team (GPF, Presti, chill causing universal +5% damage taken etc), as long as the party understands to bash the same target. I am fine with this, as I still do great damage and are usually still in the top damage/kill spots and can CC even better than before.

In PvP I usually still am able to kill SWs with my CW, but it probably will change once they have full boons. From same gear level GWS perspective I really hate SWs, as they have real killer DPS against my TANK GWF, their lingering effects do large DPS too and can't be cleared even with Waters of Elah'zad (this must be bug as this is the thing this should have over Raven Skull for being weaker in healing and having delay in the heal effect) and thanks to their constitution primary attribute and increased survivability from CW, they are really hard to kill. Added to this their prone causing powers and everything being ranged, my GWF is staying far from them, unless they are bad players, weak builds or I have support from another.

I would say for PvE, go for CW, for PvP, SW is at the moment probably better choice, but that remains to be seen only after the first nerf...

Oh, that's how they deal up to 4mil damage in the first few seconds in a dungeon.
