Lag. Really.

Guys, it started since the merging of three servers into one. That's when the performance issues came - but until now I just waited and watched. Lags used to be a rare experience.

But now, it's impossible to enjoy the game! What's really weird is that the lags show up in just some places, with Kessell's Retreat on the 1st place - Since I first got access to it (that would be about 25 days after Icewind Dale release), it's a place where I don't go if I don't absolutely have to. The instance itself is SOOOOO easy that I am completely dissappointed. The first attempt with Kessell himself: when he got down to about 50% HP, I finished him up with the help of ONE HR - just the two of us. The rest was dead, nevermind, they were weak :P

BUT! After about 3-4 runs, the lagging started and didn't let go to this day - about 3-20 second delay is a norm. It can't be my ISP's fault, because of two reasons:
1) I checked my connection many times during such problems, and it was over 6Mb/s and <30ms ping in 95% cases.
2) It happens ONLY on few locations, like Kessell's Retreat, Dwarven Valley, Icewind Pass, Castle Never (which caused my 4/4 runs to be sporadic).

I'm aware of the holiday season and increased number of <18yo players, but come on! With performance issues like this, it is likely you will get out of business very soon!

Not to mention other issues, like lame PvP balance or stupid, repetitive daily quests that come with every expansion to artificially extend the gameplay. These issues are much less important than performance!

Btw, I tried to believe that it was my problem with connection/hardware/software/witch's curse, but reinstalling, redownloading, restarting, messing up with router, PC and many other things didn't help.

Specification, just in case:
Win7 prof, AMD FX Quad-Core 4.2GHz, 4GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 550Ti 1GB, 6Mb/s Internet connection

One last thing: Lags at locations mentioned above aren't only my problem - about 15 people I often play with, had the same issue.

Whoa, that turned out to be quite an essay. Please don't fall asleep while reading.

Shards were merged. These are the virtual spaces we play in. All of them always operated on the same network of servers, the hardware that operates the game. Merging the shards does not mean they reduced the hardware capacity.

You don't mention if you've tried adjusting graphic settings. I had to turn down certain particle effects after Mod 3 to get my performance back where it used to be. I forget exactly what the option is called. At any rate, Modules seem to come packaged with a reset of your graphic settings which can be problematic. I completely locked up in Spellplague until I figured out the right thing to turn down. All that crackling Plaguefire.

I still get bad lag and rubberbanding in Caer Konig when I've had the game running a long time. It'll be much better in a low-population instance, which makes it seem like a game problem, right? But... if I open up the task manager on my computer, I can see that the game is taking up an inflated amount of memory. That's my system straining, not on Neverwinter's end at all. If I close the program and relaunch, my performance issues go away. IWD areas do seem more susceptible to causing my system to spring a memory leak, but it's something I can fix on my end.

I messed around with graphic settings many times, but thanks for the advice anyway. I just realized there's a loooong thread going on here:
    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?185612-Feedback-Lag-and-Rubberbanding
...about the very thing I'm complaining about. So I don't have high hopes about this whole case :P

Ha , this is my exact problem but now ever since last weeks maintenance when they put module 4 skill changes onto preview I have had crazy lag and up until now I never really suffered any lag except after I had been logged on for a long time , I have no idea why last weeks maintenance would affect my lag either since nothing was patched onto live and I always thought that preview was a separate server all together , even logging on takes longer and now I keep getting a message that says "connecting to account server" I never used to get that message when logging on until last weeks maintenance.

There are different types of lag, and caused by different elements in game.
Recently I discovered, that if lag is is form of significant frame-rate drop, you can fix it easily, by just pressing alt-tab (to switch out of game window) and then clicking on game icon back (not starting game again - just switching focus back to game). This helps on NVIDIA cards, not sure about AMD.

Can confirm laggy instances for cn, kessels and others. Sometimes our team needs to leave the instance and re-queue until we find one that isn't lagging. If it were just me I would say it was my isp, or framerate. But when a whole team experiences rubberbanding and lag in one instance, then fine in another it's not on our side.
