How to get your Black Ice Gauntlets as a GF

As a GF getting your black ice gauntlets is very hard, since you have to deal high damage in major/epic heroic encounters to have a chance for them to drop. After you finish the HE it should say 'Great Success'. Since other classes deal much more damage than we GFs do, you will have to rely on a different strategy:

Go alone to Icewind pass. You are going to hunt for a major HE that goes by the name 'Corrupted Wolf Pack'. Your goal is to start this HE without anyone else beeing there. if you see 2 or more other players who are already there, don't bother to even start. If there is 1 other player there, you might still have a chance if that player has low dps. make sure you slot dps encounters (frontline surge, lunging strike, anvil of doom are good for the wolves). Eventually more players will join you and compete with you in that dps race. Cross your fingers that they join late. The next thing is a bit heartless, but if you want to have a chance to get your black ice gauntlets just as the other classes have, then don't help green glowing players who lay on the ground. It will only steal your valuable time to deal damage, and it will give them time to increase their damage dealt.

After 21 epic and 68 major heroic encounters, I finally got my black ice gauntlets, by doing it the way I described it.

Umm resing other players counts toward the epic loot result. That was one of the things I did to get gloves on my Gf. Another hint when doing Rem every time the big worm leaves mine, ignore the little worms.

Just a little update: Today I hunted again for 'corrupted wolf pack' to get my second black ice gauntlets so I have both, the purified and the corrupted version.

I was two times lucky and could solo that HE for the most part undisturbed, only later others joined in. In both cases, I recieved the 'Great Success!' message at the end, and both times, I got a purple item. One of them was again black ice gauntlets, so I am now done with hunting for them.

This fortifies my theory on how to best get black ice gauntlets as a GF. I am still trying to come up with a way for our class to get the black ice main weapon. If I come up with a good way, I will post it here, so stay tuned

'With the new Patch it should now be considerably easier to get the gauntlets as healing and Damage taken are taken into account much more

Very simple, face tank beholder and not die. I got my BI weapon on first try.

Yes, the black ice gauntlets for GFs can drop from major HEs. I got 2 times black ice gauntlets from a major HE called 'Corrupted Wolf Pack', and these weren't coincidences. I suggest you carefully read my initial post, as it is the result of much testing, and offers imho the best way to get your black ice GF gauntlets.
I do not know wether the GF black ice weapon can drop from major HEs (I am still trying things out).

Not that simple I fear. I did 9 black ice beholders since the patch that was supposed to make it easier for GFs and DCs to get purple drops from HEs. I didn't get ANY purple. I have completed more than 30 epic HEs, 100 major HEs, and more than 100 minor HEs. From my experience, you only have a chance to get a purple drop if the 'Great Success!' message pops up after the (non-minor) HE has been completed. So far I never got that message from the black ice beholder.
I am very interested in what criterias have to be met to get the 'Great Success' message. If anyone knows, (other than: "make sure to be there first, make sure to deal/take/heal as much damage as possible) plz tell me.

I probably shouldn't have said "simple". I've never had any trouble getting top tear loot from epic HEs (180 black ice + whatever else), but as always you have to beat the RNG to get a purple. The first part is simple, the 2nd part, well, is not something you have control over unfortunately.

Little update: I finally got my 2 black ice longswords after doing more than 100 major HEs, 58 epic HEs and countless minor HEs. I got one from 'prospectors attack' in icewind pass, and the other one from the 'black ice beholder' in dwarven valley. Prospectors attack shouldnt drop black ice weapons according to the information of the collection page. There it says that the black ice longsword can only be obtained in dwarven valley.

I tried different tactics, but I couldn't figure out any way to make it easier to obtain the black ice longsword. Maybe someone else comes up with a good way.

On a side note, I am disappointed with the black ice longsword and shield. I have both, the purified and the corrupted set fully charged with black ice. I will keep using my fabled fomorian or fallen dragon set. I haven't decided yet on the armor set, but it looks like I will keep my timeless set. This is somewhat of a letdown. At least the rings and necks from kessel's retreat are woth hunting for (for my augment companion).

I honestly don't understand why people are working so hard for those gloves, that armor set is pretty bad the only advantage it has over other armor sets is the BI resistance, and if you don't work for the armor parts in IWD you don't need that resistance...

Us GFs don't have much to do.... Or look forward to on a daily basis but trying to look cooler.

for what its worth ... Im a protector GF 12K. I do very little damage and due to poor play habits i die on beholder all the time. I play every other 3rd day, rarely group. I have my gloves and weapon. I could use another set but no biggie.

On the other side my DC 3x damage and heal over the GF and Ive never seen a purple. <shrug>

I gave up on the gauntlets as a GF it seems impossible... My quest for the BI Main Hand is still ongoing though, I don't forsee a GF getting that either!

I farmed for 2 days and got them, i played many hours just farming only epics in icewind it was boring but i wanted them bad and it took me only 2 days.

GF have worst dps sure but still way good enough to get them. I got mine from remorhaz and i had the most threat generated without ANY agro skills so out of all the gwf and CW i had the most threat so i must have been dealing good dmg lol and if you can try to mine at least 1 piece of black ice, hit the ads when you can and revive anyone plus deal dmg to the boss, all might help your chances but its still down to luck.

Question: Why are you guys doing the DPS race as a GF? Last I checked, your chances had more to do with soaking up damage ~ you know, being a tank and all? I'll do some digging of that old patch note that said something about this and update the post when I do.

Heroic Encounter Major and Epic scoring for has been updated:
~ The chance to get an epic item from a Heroic Success has been slightly lowered.
~ The participation requirement to get the Heroic Success participation level of rewards has been lowered.
~ Healing and damage taken participation scoring values has been greatly increased.
~ The overall effect should be that it is easier to qualify and receive the best rewards for all classes, but especially for tanking and healing roles.

It may sound vague, but it's indicative in "damage taken" and "tanking roles".

I still call BS on that "patch", it's all still random and luck. I have three characters 16k+ (DC,GF,CW) only one of those has seen his MH & arms.....here's a hint it's not the DC or GF lol.

It is still random but have some hope. My GWF has done >50 HE with no luck. Took my GF into IWD for the first time, took part in the Remoharz HE and got my gauntlets!
Next HE was Captured Prospectors and got another gauntlet!
Definitely didn't do the most damage. Did a lot of blocking and resurrected a few guys though. Even died once during the Captured HE but still got an Epic result.
Go figure.

I finally got the Gauntlets last night!!!! Here's what I did~ I looked for "Ill Forgotten Gains" this is the best as you can singularly focus one Giant.

So I run up and mark a Giant to the SouthEast corner of that area on the hill away from the Deathlocks, I fight a Giant solo for about 5-6 minutes with my lizard healing Companion topping me off from time to time, as a GF it takes a long time no matter how good you think you are these guys have massive hp! So I manage to kill 1 and yell in Zone that we need help

then I proceed to start on the next Giant, by the time he was 60% I had 8 people there all fighting them. I did this 3 times yesterday and each time I got GREAT SUCCESS, the 3rd time Gauntlets dropped, I exclaimed in Zone chat with some Expletives of joy.

Nice, whit my GF protector the max of the drop i get was a 75 ice all the time ^^ very balanced system xD only people that do dps can drop it=fail patch. I hope next module will be back on the standard dungeon drop item at last even pure tank can get the set.

gratz rip!! I still have no gauntlets on my HR, GF or GWF. Several hundred HEs in total. RNG fail on this one methinks.

I have been trying with my cleric countless times to get it and no luck, I purposefully run into red zones to get damage, I don't use hallowed ground (so that others take longer to kill and thus gives more time to get healing score) and I don't use debuffs like high prophet because it means faster kills and less time to heal - still no luck.

Then I tried with my 10k rogue, which has no dps build to brag about, and I got them on the second day. It is completely random, at this point I would pay zen to get them.
