It is meant to work like that, the preservation ward just guarantees a 100% upgrading chance (blue) or the green one gives you your items back when it fails.
No, coal ward guarantees a 100% upgrading, preservation ward guarantees that you don't lose your shards or enchants. And what the OP is saying that he used a preservation ward but he still lost his shards which should not have happened.
OP did you lose your shards on a success or on a failure. If on a success that is wai. If on a failure you found a major bug and should probably list what shard you were making and what rank etc etc.

i lost my shards on a failure but i used a preservation ward. i was making my 4 vorpal shards to a lesser vorpal. and it just took 3 of my shards
Yeah that's a huge bug then. BTW with weapon and armor enchants you should probably use a coal ward in the future since you can burn thru hundred or more p wards before you get a success with only a 1% success rate.

Just checking, but unlike the old interface where your entire stack of pres wards would load after your initial selection and be consumed on each failed attempt at fusion until you ran out, the new interface requires you to select the ward you want to use every single time.
If you tried more than once and forgot to place the ward, you'd lose your shards because there was nothing protecting them.
Not saying that's what happened, but the change in interface might be to blame, and not a bug with the wards.

Honestly you'll be better off waiting till you saved enough for it. 10 p. wards were 36k is last I looked a couple weeks ago and 1 c. ward was 130k. Now prices could have fluctuated a bit. But unless you get lucky you could easily burn 100 p wards on that shard which would be 360k.
