Quick ? about item desc. and chat

I know to get an item to be rolloverable(sp?) in chat I hold down shift and click on the item. How do you get an item that you do NOT have, to show in chat ? Appreciate the help.
It follows therefore, that this young man will be as unfeeling, as unthinking as the dead, until the day he joins them.

    If you have the item in your inventory, you can just drag it over the chat field and it will do it automatically.

    If you do not own the item, but can find it in the AH or a merchant, shift+click as well.

    If you don't have an actual example to draw on, I don't think there's a way to make your text include a mouseover tooltip.

    Yes, i am aware of that method as well. thank you. :) Was wondering about stuff I DON"T have in my inventory.

    See dangit, I thought so too, but I went to AH, saw my item ( ahh that's what I want, now if I can just find someone to trade me that for this thing I have) but I went to hold down shift and clicked on item in AH, and nothing happened. Maybe I did not have chat window in front? Maybe diff click from AH?

    I'm not sure. I believe I have found that getting it to work from a merchant can take some more fiddling, maybe just getting the different interfaces to play nicely together. But it should be the same keys.

    Nope, I'm an idiot, chat window needs to be in front of AH window when shift-clicking.

    You can also type the name between brackets : [Item Name] If it exist it will show as "mouse overable" in chat.
