Speculations? I was pretty surprised to see they had already added the "Coming Soon" icon in the character creation screen today when I made a Hunter Ranger.

I'd say it'll be a pure ranged, most likely a caster to balance out the melee/ranged selections we have so far.

Warlock gear was apparently dropping way back in beta so probably a Warlock class.

Druid is all but confirmed to be the next next class unless things change.

I'm betting it is either a cloth or a plate user...Warlock or some sort of Conjurer type or a Paladin. I would think the Druid 'should' be a leather armor user, but perhaps they will choose to make them a cloth user, in which case they could also be 'next'. I think we will see a bard not too far down the line too (perhaps as a third chain user).

What is a Warlock? I have all the 1st Edition AD&D rules... Was waiting for the
traditional Paladin, Druid, Monk, Bard (yeah everyone hates Bards) or perhaps Psionic.
Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves?

Fighter, cleric, thief, wizard, ranger, paladin, druid, and bard. These are the core classes that have mostly always traveled all editions from 1st edition to 4th. I am omitting monks and barbarians, because despite popularity they don't belong in this golden core. Monks were kicked out of 2nd and barbarians were optional in 1st with the dubious honor of being introduced with Cavaliers and Thief-Acrobats (bard is included because it was available in 1st, but it was darn hard to swing a DM to let you play it and even harder to qualify for it). Assassins and Illusionists were demoted in 2nd, and promoted in 3rd.

My point in all of this is that warlocks are not even a blip on radar until 4th in all reality. The sorcerer has more prominence having been introduced one edition earlier. So I'm really not worried if it doesn't appear anytime soon.

Warlock is an Arcane Striker class. Compared to other strikers, it doesn't deal a lot of damage, but it is very good at debuffing and controlling its targets.

    P A L A D I N !!! I need to have a class called that! Even though I can RP my GF as a Paladin with his CD Companion, i ... need ... some Holy Smiting love ...

Oh and a druid must be a cloth character, as they would never wear the skin of a dead forest friend as clothing ... Ewww, the mere thought !!!
Is it finally a T5/U/T6 KDF Science Ship?

Warlock was added in 3rd Edition in a supplemental book. It was pretty similar to a sorceror, but differed mechanically in that it had some at-will abilities with no daily limitation and whereas the Sorceror often had a draconic background feel to it, the Warlock had more of a fiendish background bent to it. Which is one of the reasons the tiefling race is so often referenced in relation to the Warlock class. As far as how they will incorporate it in Neverwinter, I would imagine they 'might' make it a sort of Summoner/Buff/Hybrid Support caster type class. Pure hypothetical: Three options - focus on summoning, focus on buffing the group, focus on a mix of buff/debuff and perhaps light healing (to assist those hardworking DCs).

Though if done right, I think the Druid will have to be a viable choice as a true healer when introduced.

I feel another ranged striker class right after the ranger would be silly, but I also know that it would be a popular class, so Warlock seems likely.

What the game really needs is 1 or even 2 more healing classes - Warlord and Bard would be strong contenders.

It could do with another controller class, Druid most likely.

It could survive with no extra tank class, but you could make a case for Paladin.

Also I really want them to add genasi and swordmages.

Warlord could be really interesting. And that "coming soon" shield backdrop sure seems to have a lot of melee weapons on it - maces, swords, shields, flails -- nothing looked caster-like. But, it could be really generic - I don't recall the last "coming soon" shield.

Considering the ranger is a melee/ranged hybrid, I would disagree, but since we don't really know how well the ranger does with their melee compared to their ranged I'll stay quiet for now.

Nah, the ranger icon placeholder was the same bunch of melee weapons.

I have noticed that when you do the introductory quest in the Ashen Battlefield you get to fight alongside various NPCS that are pretty much templates of some of the classes we can use, judging their attack animations as well.

    Knox - Great Weapon Fighter
    Xuna - Trickster Rogue
    Celeste - Devoted Cleric

Then there's Makos, the tiefling. I thought he was a Control Wizard, but then I saw the quest log indicating him as a "warlock" and when I saw him fighting, he was wielding a dagger and throwing bolts of dark energy with it. His animations were nothing like the Control Wizard either.

I may be reading too much into this, but could this be a hint that the next released class will be the Warlock? (presumably the Scourge Warlock)

Yes, I know that. That's why I said I thought he was a Control Wizard.

Is a warlock class still coming or has it been merged into the new Control Wizard paragon path?

its still coming they commented I one of the live feeds it was nearly done... so 3-6 more mo. also rumor they are starting on druids. I imagine we will get a race and or class every 3-6 months give or take. just a guess based on what they have been doing so far, they have some sort of event 2 times a month. its really hard to believe NW has not even been out a year yet. it has grown so much.

-the tanks have better self heals than the clerics do....

This thread is lacking of love for the psionic class :'(
9 page and the battlemind wasn't mentioned once, this make me sad.
As wanderers, mercenaries, and adventurers, battleminds are carefree warriors who seek only to test their skill against the mightiest and most dangerous opponents. Battleminds possess a potent combination of psionic and physical skill, allowing them to use their magic to manipulate and deceive their foes even as their fighting skill lets them carve a swath through enemy ranks. Battleminds tend to be bold and sometimes arrogant, an attitude earned through bringing ruin to enemies over the course of many conflicts.

You might not share your fellow battleminds' arrogance, but you do have access to an array of combat abilities that let you manipulate, baffle, and defeat your enemies. Your mind is as deadly as your weapon, and with the aid of your psionic magic, your body can turn aside attacks as effectively as a suit of plate armor can.

Let those who would stand against your might quiver in terror when you approach, for you are a battlemind, and supremacy in combat is your birthright.
You are the invincible warrior, turning aside an enemy’s attack using only a single thought. You are the tireless champion, standing fast in the thick of battle as your foes fall to the power of your mind. You are the wild berserker, channeling your pain into a counterstrike that leaves the strongest enemy reeling. You are the battlemind—a warrior of thought and action, whose physical and mental fortitude are the equal of any foe.
Your combat prowess alone would make you a formidable opponent. But it is your mastery of psionics that grants you your edge in combat. You call on the power within to tear into an opponent’s mind, unearthing its secrets. You anticipate and avoid your foes’ attacks, then deliver a punishing response that batters both body and mind. Psionic power is not merely an accessory to your armament—it is the foundation of your combat skill.

Whenever I hear someone say "battlemind" IRL, I always hear it as "battle mime" instead. That should be an actual class. ;)

Personally I'm looking forward to whatever we get, but I'd especially love a bard, a druid, a paladin, and a warlock (in roughly that order). I have a crazy notion of a lawful good dwarf warlock that I may have to do as a fire-wizard instead if I get too impatient for a warlock to come out.
