I don't think either of those forms. I got the Mask Witness achievement while talking to the beholder on the backside of the market, though it's possible I got it on delay. I think it's something like talking to all transformations of one, talking to all of the illusionists, or even triggered when you've turned in x charms to them.
This is more in line with my original theory that it required interacting with each costume or something like that. However, we still don't know for sure.
Also, I just found that costume and I didn't get the achievement...so...fun...

You guys are right about the achievement being about the god Mask.
Look what I found in an alley...

So you have to see the transformation happen? Talking to one while in the Mask costume I know is not sufficient.
Not really sure... just got the achievement on my third character... I was not around to see the transformation itself but stood in front of a transformed illusionist for about 5 seconds and the achievement kicked in... I did not need to exchange any treats or interact with the god Mask.

So when I got it on my first character looking at a Beholder it must have been a delayed response (I did interact with Mask at some point in that day, though I am not sure if it were before or after the beholder... I was running like a mad man trying to get my 600 tokens lol)
I'll give it a shot on my fresh characters

Would be really nice if a Mod could help us get some official info on the achievements available for this event... don't want to end up missing some achievement only to find out once the event is over.

Yep, my guildmate was not interacting with the Mask costume when she got it.
I have interacted with all the illusionists I believe and I am pretty sure I have interacted with all the costumes. I have farmed 600 tokens on 1 char and no achievement, so...

There could be a small chance that you already got the achievement but missed it when it showed up on screen.... I don't think there is a way to verify getting it as it does not show up in the journal.
Just wanted to update my experiences so far in the order they've happened.
Char 1 - Traded with mobile Illusionist in Mask costume - no achievement
Char 2 - stood in front of stationary Illusionist for about 30 minutes while talking to friends. Observed transformation to mask costume - gained achievement
Char 1 - went into Moonstone Mask and Illusionist on stage was in Mask costume - gained achievement

I got it.
The one in Hall of justice seems to be a bit broken, being all constantly floaty, but that's where I got it from. He was dressed as Mask already.
Anyhow, all I did was wave to him and I got it. Although it shows my wave as going to the NW guard... oh well. Guess all Mask wanted from me was a bit of recognition, rather than to trade. =P
But still. Given the fact that this achievement is so buggy, I'm fairly convinced it wasn't meant to be placed in the game.
Thanks for the screenshot, really useful.
We just need to see it for achi, i was at the same NPC as in the picture(near invocation zone). It says that it needs a coin for his next trick, someone gave it then it says it's next illusion will show the truth behind the masquarade and when it started to turn the achievement poped up.
I hope they fix so event achievements show up in journal and we know what else is there, still was fun though.
Always, someone,

Ok... I just got this achievement on two more of my alts and after observing both very closely i'm fairly certain what triggers it... you have to be near the god Mask and the achievement triggers as soon as he speaks!!! Any dialogue from the god Mask while you are near him seems to trigger the achievement... no need to see him transform or exchange any tokens with him.

Yeah... he did speak when I was looking at him. Didn't think about that part. Not so sure it happened exactly then, but it was a fluke for me, really.
I'm still not so sure it was intended to be put into place since it's not appearing "on the books" so to speak. Otherwise it would be kind of odd that they could get 5 or 6 (I forget how many) to work for mid-summer but couldn't get 1 to work. I guess hearing is part of being a witness... anywho! Best of luck.
Hope this adds some clarity:)
With token exchange...

I got it from the npc by the bank randomly w/o turning a token in the second time around. So you just have to bear witness, although I did exchange with a moving "mask god" npc like 30 min prior but had no achievement and it made no remarks.

I'm going to assume I got the achievement on the second character because I found "Mask" in front of our Lord Protector, traded with him before he changed out... then stood there a long while and conveniently he turned again. Nothing happened though (he did speak). So maybe I got it earlier and missed it. I could have sworn there wasn't a moment I've had my headset off (to hear the cue) or became idle before him.
Got it finally today after 2 days of sitting in front of a stationary illusionist in front of LP. Mask really doesn't care for my DC. He appears all the time before my CW though <_< it's the Tiefling tail... got to be. Hypnotized him right out of hiding, right?
The DC definitely got it with a talking version of the costume and did not trade with it.

Is there any achievement for visiting all the Illusionists / different transformations and gathering all Pumpkins?
I think I have gathered a Pumpkin from every node in PE. There is 3 in every Roomed instance - PVP Hall/Transformation hall/Tavern/Library and 3 outside of the Mask - but only 2 inside of it???
I have also gathered every quirky and normal door-ed one?
Should have had an achievement for it and a countdown on the achievement log!
Just had two different illusionists turn into Mask, traded with one but had already traded with the other. Did not get the achievement. Followed one around until he turn again. Still no achievement.

There are lore quests just for five(ish) days, which is nice if you're like me and get into the event a day late. That's why there are no more.
I randomly got the Mask Witness achievement on my DC when she ran by a stationary illusionist as he transformed and spoke the "Did you really think anyone could steal the power of the god of thieves" line, but my CW walked around with a couple of wandering Mask illusionists and saw their transformations revert without ever getting the achievement. I think you have to actually see the illusionist transform into Mask to get the achievement.
Well yes, but I was hoping that was a lie.
I mean seriously, would YOU trust Mask?
As far as we know, that is just a scholar. He never said he was Mask and is called Masquerade Loremaster. Of course, it would be nice if it a future Masquerade event it was revealed he was Mask.

Dressed like Mask? On a festival that seems dedicated to Mask? "Just a scholar?" Seriously, pull the other leg...

3 in the Library? Do you mean Sage's Shop?
Yes, if you read the lore from yesterday you would know it was the final one.
I was hoping for a reward for getting all the lore, but oh well...

The Masquerade master is also wearing Mask's mask. His armor isn't quite as nice though.
