I find it funny how a lot of people complain that he opened 700 boxes with one companion only, but!
He got something else, he can further open the enchant/ runestone boxes + he got like 7k of trade bars
I would like to see how much minus he is on AD after he count everything together.
Lockboxes are most of the time just gamble ripoff, but if you open a lot of them you never end up with zero of AD, but you actually come close to 0, also it's important to look for what ratio you buy your zen. Of course if you go for 1 zen for 380 AD you cannot expect a good return

its so hard for me to get AD... hurts to see someone wasted 2.5 mill for 700 boxes and gets nothing in return... nothing for me
i would need 5 years to make 2.5 mill at my current speed.....
well, you might have to consider the perception of the OP as to what their definition of what "good" is. if you're going to assume that the only good items winnable from the lockboxes are the mount and the companion... then for sure, after opening 700 boxes and only getting one companion, the OP is right on the money. or so to speak.
unfortunately the reality of what happens when you open 700 boxes is you're going to get tarmalune trade bars + some other item. it could be profession assets, enchants, weapons... all things that you could pop into the auction house. plus, you have to put into perspective what kind of in-game storage you'd need to open 700 boxes at once. not saying that it can't be done but it would take some strategics. so is it nothing good if you could turn all of your "winnings" around and get some of your AD back?
It does seem the rates have dropped I opened about 300 nightmare boxes a few months ago and ended up with 3 mounts which keeps to the 1%. My fellow guild mate @gmann was keeping track and he started about 6-7 weeks ago. He finally got his twilight after 177 boxes last week. He did get quite a few items out of those other 176 boxes though so he figures he only spent about $50 of his Zen and the rest was just recycling from sales out if the boxes to buy more keys. 700 boxes 1 companion is an exceptional run of bad luck.
I opened over 400boxes and i got 1 purple mount, the rate drop sucks. But what do u expect with a F2P game(Pay to win). If anything they will make it worst rate after the next group of boxes come. should have made the owl bear a companion it looks like it will eat ppl up
for that amount you could have gotten 7 owlbears or 7 dragons or perfect enchants, i can never fathom what ppl are thinking with these lockboxes. if you get the 10 keys open ten dont get anything you should just say screw it and never bother with them again. i have never nor will ever spend any real money on keys to open a box that to be honest has nothing of real value to me or spend so much on them when i could have just bought the items i wanted outright from the AH without having to worry about "hey, i might get it this time" *crosses fingures

yeah , all for the better of players . I just hope ppl will see this topic and never open any fkin boxes , its a huge rip off.

when people buy a lottery ticket, they're buying a chance (albeit a very low chance) to win a cash prize. they spend their money for this ticket with this knowledge. it's not a value purchase. it's usually an impulse buy. some people buy lots of lottery tickets to increase their chance to win. is this a rip off? what about casinos with their gambling tables, slot machines, roulette wheels?
some people choose not to gamble and that's okay. others do and that's okay as well. coming here and reading this thread won't influence people to stop buying keys if they do not share your opinion.
lockboxes, unlike lottery tickets and casinos, will give you SOMETHING even if you don't win the grand prize. to say that you've opened 700, 400, 1000 lockboxes and won nothing good is someone's opinion. they didn't walk away with absolutely nothing. even if they won a bunch of items that could be sold for 5k each, that would be worth 3.5m AD (at 700 boxes x 5k). being disappointed in your decision to buy 700 keys because you didn't get what you wanted doesn't make lockboxes a rip off. it doesn't even make you a fool. it just means you're not very lucky.
in my entire time playing neverwinter, i've probably opened 90-120 lockboxes. i've gotten a lot of items that were worth something decent as well as a nightmare mount. i have zero regrets about it. but your mileage may vary.
Do not stick to the same stack of gems. Keep switching around, back and forth. Fuse radiants, then for example, empowered runestones, then Darks, then azures etc.
I almost never fail at fusing, back in CO i fused rank 8's without protection wards by using this method.

Best of luck to whoever tries out my method.

It's a gamble. Plain and simple. Don't like to gamble, don't open the boxes. You could just trash them or sell them to the nearest vendor for a copple coppers.
I hate to say this, but as I've said before it's next to impossible to get a ratio that's even just a little off off a single positive result. It's like me saying that because I flipped a coin ten times and got 1 heads and 9 tails the odds of getting a Heads result is 10%.
Cryptic have access to the real numbers and of the results all across the server, I'm fairly certain that if the results were that disparagingly off they'd correct the randomisation algorithms to compensate. (Average tests on lockboxes in CO and STO came out at about 1-2% for the top prize)
I personally hate those box additions because they are nothing but money sinks, and gambling so you know the numbers are never good in the first place especially for items you can sell in the AH.
So really I'd suggest voting with your wallet next time and not buying the things ever again that will send a clear message to every mmo developer that no players don't appreciate this kind of nonsense.

Even if not one person spent real money on them other players would still buy zen with AD and get them. They are fun honestly, I was extremely happy when an owlbear popped out of the box
1 owlbear pays for 40-50 boxes so just a little luck and you can make a ton of AD on them actually.

welll if it would been 1% i would get 7 mount or pseudo or at least close to 7...but rly just 1 out of 700 boxes seems scaming to me. if i would get at least 3 i would have beed satisfied but 1 its just imposible from them to fk me like that.
That is gambler's mentality (not saying that you are a gambler, I'm saying that is how they think)
100 boxes does NOT guarantee a dragon (1% chance) each time you open, there is a 99% chance of failure and 1% chance of success. Each box. It doesn't get "better" as you open more boxes. RNG (Random Number Generator) is just random over the course of MILLIONS of boxes (Cryptic has that data) the average will come close to 1%. but for individuals, it is hard to gauge with a smaller sample.

some people (well many IMO) love these things because there is a chance to get something for little "money" There will always be some lucky people out there who may get the grand prize and only open 1 box!

Pretty sure all you would have to do is a character search, then if only one player with name pops up that is probably your guy;)

It's called a "business model".
Make you want to buy more keys.
