I've only seen the coveted Owlbear at the mount vendor. Does anyone have one that can post some pics of it in action?
How is the animation and the sounds it makes? It's the first mount since the Boar that I'm actually interested in.

That thing is darn ugly. LOL. It looks like a fat chipmunk from the side and some weird monstrosity from the front.

Indeed it is everything I hoped it would be. Still have to get one though.

I really dislike owls. I can't pinpoint whether it's annoyance or fear but I'm not thrilled to see giant ones zipping about.

We have the in the woods out back. They're amazing flying death machines.

The mount is really ugly. Not that the others are much better lol, but this one is fat and big as well. I thought unicorns and herbal-deer or whatever their name are were the most ugly yet, but now... the owlbear makes them look beautiful.

Still waiting for a proper mount such as the netherdrakes, sandstone drake, protodrakes from WoW, decent stuff. My hopes for something as nice looking as a Twilight Harbinger are close to 0, but hey, aesthetics are up to personal preference. At least the flaming horses here look decent.

I'd actually prefer the Small Forest Stag. Make a really big, overweight character that dwarfs it and drags his feet on the ground.

Sorry THIS is an owlbear, not saying I don't like the mount but it's more four legged owl than anything. I just prefer the more nightmare inducing one.

I don't think we will see this one reskinned for the zen store, but you never know.

Owlbears were originally the creation of a very insane wizard..so hideous is the point, though I do think they have cutesy'd them too much.

They might..considering it is a new model..I just don't see them not reusing it.

Add a tail, change the beak a little, and it could be a wingless griffin...

LOL! It's actually WotC new take on Owlbears which...doesn't suck but certainly isn't the Nightmare inducing ones us old pen and paper fans are use to. Personally I would like to have a more badazz Owlbear mount, but riding an Owlbear would be almost impossible anyway considering they are fanatical and extremely low intelligence in the PnP game.

I really do wish Cryptic would lay off the "fantastical" (read as Bullsh**) mounts and give us more of the type of mounts you would actually find in faerun, they could do things to make those very cool and desirable too, not every mount has to come from the Astral Plane or farts rainbows.

I prefer the newer more owl-ly owlbear models. I'm not seeing the "owl" in the older models. For me, the distinct characteristic of an owl are the two large forward-facing eyes -- something that I think we instinctively recognize as the features of a predator.

Penny Arcade had an awesome owlbear-like beast in their Lookouts: A Boy Must Learn mini-series.

Owlbear is definitely...interesting. I don't think pretty is what they were going for.

Aesthetics are of course a matter of personal preference. For example, I personally consider WoW to be one of the overall ugliest MMOs ever made. The nicest thing I can say about it is that it has very vibrant colors and some neat environments. WoW can keep its mount designs :P
    Sacrilege - Warlock
    Contagion - Cleric
    Testament - Wizard
    Pestilence - Ranger
    Dominion - Paladin

That looks more like a shaggy dragon then an owlbear. I'll always expect them to be bulky thanks to the original MM (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/17/Owlbear.JPG/200px-Owlbear.JPG).

WoW has the most mount variety in the MMO world, afaik: http://www.warcraftmounts.com/gallery.php

The spectral and celestial mounts are particularly stunning. Plus to this day, I think they are the only mainstream MMO with "Carrot-On-a-Stick", which can look very funny with certain mounts. :)

Also, Tera, has extremely good looking set of mounts: http://www.mmomounts.com/tera-mounts

Though neither of the above compare to Age of Conan's tiger mounts which you have to steal by defeating their mom and then raising the mount yourself from a tiny little thing into a behemoth!

. . . . . . Owlbears have never walked upright 100% of the time. Like bears, they rise on their hind legs as a show of brute force when engaging prey. The owlbear in game is pretty spot-on with 4th edition but also keep in mind, owlbears can vary in appearance just like bears, cats, dogs, owls and all other walks of life in the Realms. They also are not contained to the alignment restriction in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. In the forgotten realms, any creature can be of any alignment. Afterall, Elminster is fond of riding a red drake that is not evil. There are evil gold dragons in the Realms and there are good black dragons. The Realms do not adhere to the non-FR rules.

Umm yeah, I guess I'm lamenting the Wizards of the coast version of the realms, things like Elminster and his fun loving Red Dragon are a product of that, I just prefer the realms that Greenwood wrote about in Dragon back in the day, when Elminster wasn't such a Mary Sue and such freewheeling alignments and things like "Yes you too can Ride a Terrasque (Because now they are a race instead of a singular apocalyptic death machine ) as a mount" didn't exist then, not that it couldn't be interesting, I just haven't seen it so far.

You are right Owlbears do vary in appearance and this one does look like the 4th ed owlbear which I have said before I wished looked less like Woodsy.

I've played D&D in one form or another since the 80's, and this is probably one of the worst owlbears I've seen. It looks like a giant fat budgie. I would trade it away if I got one.
