Idea: Craftable Fashion Objects

We have seen how popular Alchemy dyes and Midsummer crafting is.
and that a lot of people would like to mix some armor bits in with fashion
my idea is to simply give a few fashion sets to the appropriate armor craft
this would simply be to skin existing armor sets so that they could be mixed in
with fashion sets. Also since these outfits are already in game they would take minimal
coding time but add sooo much more content...

crafting level would probably be based on in game level
t1 and t2 recipes could drop from dungeons
Sharendar stuff may require crescents to buy.

dropping recipes for cosmetic items wont change the game balance and would increase the popularity of
endgame grinding as it gives raiders AND people something they can sell to fellow players.
If your worried about loss of zen funds, keep in mind this would probably increase
purchases of dyes, Profession packs, as well as any recipe components such as dragon eggs.

in addition this might add more people to the zen fashion addiction once they got their t1 armor in the fashion tab they may decide to buy zen packs to complement it. my elusive agent top would look great with wedding skirt ;P

Id also once again urge the possibility of adding a fashion/mount tabs. as removing the burden on inventory which is 500-600z per 2 outfits. for a bank increase would encorage a gotta have them all mentality for fashion which is minimum 800z per outfit per character not including dyes or if you introduce account based outfits which you could sell for 1500-3000z.

So lets get more ideas this and other things relating to fashion, crafting, cosmetics ect...

City of Heroes and Champions Online have gotten Cryptic the reputation as the best character costumer in the MMO market. I would very much like to see you show NWO a little of that kinda love too. I feel embarrassed when the NPCs walking around PE dress better than I do......

I would setup this profession in a progression of simpler clothing up to more elaborate pieces. You'd start with patchwork clothing, much like the peasant garb you get early on, and you'd progress toward fancier and more elaborate pieces.

What would be interesting is if this profession used resources from all the armor professions, and could make things like dress armor - a fashion item that looks like armor, but it's for dress occasions.

I'm kind of fine with cosmetic crafting being limited to the events - they do need to make money somehow. If they do introduce it, I certainly would be happy though.

Cosmetic tab and expanded cosmetic optimization are long overdue, fully agreed on that.

that's why the idea for the clothing crafting (non event) to be mostly clothing that is already out there such as armor and npc outfits. with the "unique" stuff being from events/zen outfits/Packs ect. just like the creatable dyes tend to be the colors classes already wear with events/zen producing the "special" combinations.

Also im not even suggesting making any new professions let the outfits be made by tailoring/ mail-smithing / plate-smithing/ leatherworking have the recipes drop in dungeons, skirmishes endgame areas, events, guant- grim. to basically give people stuff to be excited about looting and that they can sell to others. maybe also drop recipes for 6 and 8 slot bags, nothing huge we got the zen market for the big bags.

Crafting and Fashion are 2 really popular aspects of this game it gets people into the auction spending their AD. Lately its actually been pretty slow cause there isn't the end game purples in there to fuel the AD side of the economy. I suspect people are hording a bit. because they are afraid there wont be a way to make more. If we have more hot sellers dropping in the dungeons people will queue and team more and have something to work for.

While rolling fashions into existing armor professions would provide further incentive to level them, I can see managing that being somewhat awkward.

I kinda like the idea of introducing it as another profession: Couture. This doesn't preclude the idea of implementing some special mechanics like finding patterns from drops.

It's also an opportunity to put in another female crafting dude, as long as nobody slams the idea of the lady Couturier being stereotypical.

    Edit:
Mats could be the same, since we already have fabric, leather, wood, and metal. Preparation could be different though, like preparing wooden buttons or metal ribbing, to assemble all the needed pieces for a garment. You could make it really detailed and fiddly and I thnk the people who are into it wouldn't mind too much if it supported a high level of customization.

I like this idea. It would be cool to be able to make at least NPC clothing from a profession and leave the unique stuff to the Zen market as has been suggested already.

Well I think weather we just add to existing or they make a new craft. craftable outfits would defiantly be a good thing. and in that everyone seems in agreement. also the fashion tab so far everyone seems to agree on. what did people think of my idea to drop some crafting recipes in t2 dungeons to help revitalize the economy?

Everyone who cares about their fashion clothes likes the idea.

Everyone who's all like, "lol wut fashions are useless" is not paying attention. Though perhaps T2 fashion pattern drops they could sell would catch their interest.

exactly that is Kind of my hope. People need something to "grind" for and if its not advancement thanks to them trying to cap out the gear gain then it will be for vanity or profit. that's also why I push for the fashion and mount tabs because fashion and mouts if people aret conserned about space will generate dye and training profit as well as the original purchase price.

though at the moment mounts and pets are flawed due to its easier just to buy 1 pack and your done mountwize and no one respects non augment pets.

I love tinkering with the visual look of my characters and back in the old NWN1 multi-player days I would spend hours crafting stuff and tinkering with how things looked to get it just right, grinding like mad to meet XP and GP requirements to hit those things.

    My Wish List for Appearance is;
    1) A hot key that lets me swap between "Combat" and "Fashion" for my characters. I know it makes no difference what is seen on the screen to the mechanics of the game but I still want it. :)

    2) Possibly more than I want the hot key I want pants for women. Seriously, every adventurer's fashion set for women is a dress or a half-baked skirt thing - just give me the option for pants!

    3) To be able to craft them. I'd be happy to pay Z to buy the patterns, heck I've spent money on dye, I'd spend it on patterns.

    4) The ability to mix "fashion" and "combat" gear as I desire to create the look of my character. For example I like the torso and legs of the CW outfit, but I'd much prefer she have her Suneite Headgear on display (because frankly the Suneite orb looks ridiculous).

None of it matters to the play mechanics, but it does matter to the play experience; customization of my character is important to me and being able to get the exact look I want is something I'm prepared to pay reasonably for as well.

I love the idea, I hope it can be done and there is enough interest from the devs to try it.

Fashion has been something people have been wanting since beta weekend 1 when all they had was armor.
So the interest has always been there and they have added a LOT of great stuff since the beta weekends
and a lot of it has been based on OUR requests. Also I am very pleased with the genuine hopefulness
and positivity of this thread. It is this kind of positive brainstorming that actually gets ideas considered.

    1) There might be a key-bind to swap between fashion and gear we'd just have to figure out the command string.

    2) in beta there was a bug that if you hid the visuals for the neck item you'd remove the little skirt/cape things too id love to see the ability to remove the skirt capes to make some of the regalia/finery skirts into pants/leggings considering they glitch away half the time anyhow or fly up when going down stairs. that kinda tech would give us a couple pants/leggings also we do have the peasant pants when died black or dark blue look quite nice the mage pack works well also.

    3) this is the idea of the thread because combining fashion with drops and crafting will fuel lockboxes/profession bags, dungeon queues, ad so many aspects of this game WITHOUT affecting dps or pvp or other things that may fuel some of the more negative threadlines.

    4) another issue that has plagued us since beta the fashion objects sadly each encompass 2-4 armor slot so can not easily be spliced together. I've suggested that maybe if a slot is empty show the armor instead to reduce the number of naked dwarves with lira masks. but making craft-able fashion outfits BASED on armor SETS. May be a better solution since they do add a collectible element to the game and wont interfere with gear-scores or existing transmog tech. but of course this also makes the fashion tab more mandatory.

Keep the positive feedback and ideas coming people :P

Personally, I'd love to see craftable fashion items. Maybe have a majority of patterns that create BoE items, to give crafters a way to make some AD, and a few "special ones" that are BoP to give people a reason level the related profession up themselves.

yeah I really think some fashion armors could bring some real life back into the armor crafts. not to sure about to many BOP however just do to the anger a lot of the BOP items are causing right now.

if we had account banks and stuff was Bind to account and not Bind to character im sure wed have a lot less anger. but that being said a bop fashion object is probably less problematic anyhow due to how it doesn't affect game play.

We get unique weapons and armor in the events, so I don't see why we can get unique clothes too.

As for cosmetic options, I use the town clothes. Some say they turn into your armor in combat, but I haven't noticed any of that. Neither do they reduce your stats in any way, so they function quite well as cosmetic clothes. :) But yeah, expanded cosmetic options would be great, and I'd love to craft my own clothes. As somone said earlier, it could be patchwork stuff early on, then more and more complictated (and beautiful) stuff later, on higher levels. Not sure if I'd want level restrictions to clothes, though. I don't see the point, as it's just cosmetic.

There should also then be a "Fashionista" achievement/title for people who collect/craft a certain number of complete fashion sets. :D
