Horrible first PvP experience

First, a little background. The character I was using is a 10th level dwarf Guardian fighter. I got the Domination PvP quest, so I figured I'd try it once. If worst came to worst I could always hide somewhere and wait for the timer to click down.

Instead, I nearly had a heart attack and could only escape by shutting the computer down entirely. Yes, I know that's like using a nuke to swat a fly. I was so panicked I was getting tunnel vision.

First, we had someone on our side leave almost immediately, so the battle immediately started as 4 on 5.

Then, every time I tried to help out, I had almost every member of the opposite team jump on me, and I couldn't do anything but watch my health bar drain out.

I was so appalled at how easily my character died, repeatedly, that I started having an anxiety attack. I wanted OUT. I couldn't take it any more. I couldn't think straight, so my hand went to the power switch on my PC and turned it off.

Fifteen minutes later I am -still- shaking.

I would say 'something needs to change', but I don't care. I am NEVER EVER EVER doing Neverwinter PvP AGAIN IN MY LIFE. I have never had a PvP experience so bad it panicked me into hard rebooting my computer. I have done idle PvP on twelve MMOs now and while I can say I suck at it, I understand I suck at it. This was a whole new level of "sucking at it". This was "sucking at it AND getting gangstomped at the same time".

I'm posting this so Cryptic understands just what a horrible experience one of their players had with PvP. I mean it -- that scared the hell out of me. You couldn't pay me to play PvP again in Neverwinter. I know inexperience caused some of it, but with an experience that bad, I'm not going to stick around to get experienced. I'm done. I'm out. I'm sticking to PvE and that's all that matters to me.

My first time in the arena, I had no idea what the rules were. I didn't know it was like capture the flag. I didn't know how to score points. I was prepared to get stomped though... and I absolutely did. For me though, my most dramatic losses are merely hilarious because... well, because I have nothing riding on it.

Sounds like you had the misfortune to have a (bad) PUG come up against a premade. Even if they were both PUGs, not everyone in low-level PvP is actually a newbie. I think it's a much faster way to blow through early levelling than questing. 4 on 5 can even still pull off a win, if at least some of them are fairly decent players and the full team aren't so much.

But if it's going to stress you that badly, you probably shouldn't play. For the sake of your health.

It's not that I don't believe you; I do. I've experienced the same thing so many times. Not the panicking-to-the-point-of-nuke-button part but the actual PvP experience sounds just the same. It's that I'm sorry, but I laughed so hard reading the OP because I could relate to the PvP experience.

Had you been serious about the facts, but looked back on it less seriously, then I'd have totally tried to friend you.

I apologize for laughing, but really, just so funny. OMFGRESTARTCOMP

you don't chose the PvP life, the pvp life choses you.
take easy, you just started. pvp really sttarts at lvl 60, after you get a decent guild, and a good guild for premades

Yep. I started playing Neverwinter... well, actually, I started having characters that accrued experience when the game officially launched, not in the "Open Beta". Why, you ask? I'll tell you in a minute. The "join date" of March is when I joined this forum. Not when I started playing.

Second, my main PWE game is Champions Online, not Neverwinter. And I'm a casual player of Champions Online. I'm casual as all get-out for Neverwinter.

Third, my main Neverwinter character is a halfling trickster rogue... who is all of 20. Very, very casual. The dwarven GF was just an experiment to see if I could tank in Neverwinter -- I'm a great tank in most of my other games.

Fourth... did I mention I'm a casual player? No hurry to get to endgame for me. I was trying PvP because, from my experience on my rogue, I had that stupid 'PvP Domination' quest keep popping up every level, and I never did anything about it. Well, this time I figured I'd get it out of the way. (Way to go. I can't even bring myself to log back into Neverwinter, now.)

Okay, so maybe I'm messed in the head. But I had a bad experience, and I wanted to tell folks at Cryptic about it. Probably should have just called their corporate number instead.

You can clear that quest by just talking to the NPC. You don't actually have to do any PvP to get credit for it, so there is no need to avoid it even if you wish to avoid PvP on future characters.

Well, it was rather funny I would think. It basically meant, if you can't handle the heat then get the hell out of the kitchen. You know what I mean :)
I think that's what I said in the first post. PvP scared me, I'm not doing it again. End of story.

. . . . . Thread cleansed of the totally inappropriate replies. jonandre1, I am truly sorry for your horrible experience. I hope you're able to enjoy the other aspects of the game besides PvP. I am glad you got some civil replies and help by a few. I am closing this now to prevent what happened from happening again. Many thanks to those who took their time to write sensible replies and provide appropriate advice.
