Unbind Companion

I've been requested to post this here by customer support, after submitting a ticket and being told they couldn't deal with it as customer service would have to deal with it.

Anyway,

I'm trying to unbind my ioun stone of allure to send to my alternate character but it is still telling me it is bound.

I have made it idle, removed to my bag but when I try to move from bag to mail slot to transfer, even after accepting the AD cost to unbind, it does not work. This is frustrating having spent 2000 zen on a stone which I can't transfer to my other characters.

Server: Beholder
Character Name: Selenathar@ukspawn

If it matters, I've tried to transfer to both a character on same account and other account but no go, after accepting the cost to unbind, nothing happens.

There is no way to unbind companions and there are no current plans to permit it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... FATAL RESPONSE. MODERATOR #EPICFAIL

Moderators/Devs - please don't skim this comment - READ it.

Then WHY is the "option" to do so (unbind a companion from a player character) in-game? When selecting the option the player is "warned" there will be (an astronomical) Astral Diamond cost to do so? Then, when the player commits the transaction... nothing happens?

There WAS (at one time, at least) the *intention* to allow this, but it's been broken ever since Closed Beta 1.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM: If your (Moderator Ambisinisterr) comment is true (no way to do it and neither an intention to allow it) - then ALL Z-Store Companions are RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED for being bind-to character, rather than Bind to Account.

Now, IF your comment refers to the Bind-to-Account Companions (received in packs, such as Founders' or Knight pack AND claimable on EVERY CHARACTER on account) - THEN (and only then) is your comment accurate and acceptable. It also means you did not read the OP and just skimmed it over, canned response. This is unacceptable. I know you work hard, maybe bleary-eyed - but still unacceptable.

BECAUSE, the OP is referring to a Z-STORE Purchased companion.

AMBISINISTERR or ANY DEV: PLEASE CLARIFY THE ABOVE STATEMENT AND CONFIRM OR DENY THE ACCURATENESS OF MY RESPONSE.

Seriously - if it turns out THIS IS THE CASE, then I'm done. I still have time to take a refund on my Knight of Feywild pack, and I'll just take my loss on HotN Pack and Z-Store purchases thus far (Three Mounts, two companions, countless consumables, etc. - don't believe me? Get billing to peek at my account) - no, I'm not "threatening" anything, just trying to state how much I've supported Cryptic and this game so far - since CB1 - I know I'm no one and my absence wouldn't amount to an eye-drop of water in the Pacific ocean, but I suspect you'll have a real blacklash on your hands if this is the case.

TL;DR: MODERATOR RESPONSE TURNS ME LIVID - PLEASE CLARIFY AND CONFIRM THE OFFICIAL POLICY ON Z-STORE-PURCHASED COMPANIONS AND UNBINDING THEM FROM PLAYABLE CHARACTER.

This thread DEMANDS a comment by an official Cryptic Dev or PR Official.

There is no way to unbind companions and there are no current plans to permit it.

Then remove the misleading confirmation window asking for a AD cost of the mentioned unbinding...The intent to allow it so is clearly ancient and proves your programmers don't have time to fix such a stupid thing as unpermitted feature anymore and have to focus on spewing more and more "content" in form of events.

I probably see your interest in releasing more and more things to do (read: to buy with Zen) so players don't get bored of a game and move elsewhere.

But I'll tell you one thing: players like even less being lied to than not having many things to do...

Thank you angrysprite, pretty much summed it up. I have also purchased the Feywild pack(s).

I searched through 3 pages of google results before I found a thread that actually had a moderator/admin reply on this issue and it was just as descriptive as yours, ambis. Instead of letting there be 20 threads per vague answer every week on "Unbind Companion" how about someone puts out a definitive and clear statement and makes the necessary descriptive changes on companions being bound or not, account or char or not.

It's been stated many many times, we're not stupid, it's a money grab. There's always going to be a new player, or even a long term one that won't realise that they can't be transferred because there's nothing officially stating this, there's no description in-game to contradict this and only a broken system to support that you can. Basically this is false advertising. If there's no plans to do this, you need to take that out, you can't just leave something in game to make players think they can unbind companions when you have zero intention of doing so, seriously, you can see the issue here, right?

This is why I placed a ticket because quite frankly the support I've seen people receive on these forums is verging on terrible at times, not that that's out of place for a F2P MMO but when you're referring to store purchased items you need to pull your fingers out.

The fact e-mail support say this,

    "Hello

We're sorry to hear you are having trouble with your companion! Unfortunately, we cannot unbind companions at this time. This is a known issue, and is being investigated by the devs. We apologize for the inconvenience. "

    You say this,

"There is no way to unbind companions and there are no current plans to permit it. "

Several other members have stated in-game GM's have stated it "will be fixed"

This really pisses me off. Even if I wasn't a "paying" customer, I'd still be furious as the way this is being dealt with.

So for anyone whose listening, this is how you're coming across to the majority of the user base.

"We are aware of the issue, we don't know exactly what we're doing about it because quite frankly it's financially beneficial for us as a company to keep this feature in as the misleading opportunity to grab some more cash from our customers is not something we want to change, anytime soon. Furthermore, we're sick and tired of hearing about it."

Then bloody do something, even if it's a statement. Any reference to the developers FAQ's will be an acknowledgement of further skimming and result in a slap.

hahaha @ ambisinisterr. Any more epic fail comments?

    http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?111111-Companion-info-and-a-bit-of-a-guide

    The Companion idle/active system
Each character can only have 3 active companions(unless you buy more active pet slots). Companions purchased or obtained will only appear on that character. If you have more companions than you have active slots, you may make a companion idle for free. You can then reactivate that companion should you have an active slot open up - either by buying a new one or making another companion idle. Each character starts with 6 idle companion slots.

Once you initially make a companion active that companion becomes bound to you. Here's the fun part. For a fee of astral diamonds you can make a companion unbound to you and then trade/sell that companion with other players! Want a new companion but don't to level a companion all over again? Someone might be selling one that they have already leveled! Have a companion you don't want anymore? Unbind and sell them! This could create some really interesting markets I think.

I must agree with the above posters that this is a pretty annoying issue. I only ended up here because I noticed an enchant placed on my Amulet doesn't show the proper stats on my character OR companion.

So, I happen upon this thread while looking to see if I can find any info about the previous issue and I'm quite dismayed at what I've found. I've already spent $50 on this game and I planned to stay around for a very long time. Additionally I have some irl friends I planned on recruiting to join me in the fun.

After reading the above posts, I can no longer do such a thing in good conscience. The only thing I hate worse than being lied to, is being used as a tool to bring others into the lie.

Do you even refund the Astral Diamonds spent to 'unbound' companions when people attempt to do so? I'm guessing they have to contact Customer Support and wait a week or more to get the money back. Never mind the Astral Diamonds lost by the people who did not take the time to complain.

It has become quite clear to me why they are dragging their feet on this. I've already vowed to never play another Nexon 'operated' game again. I'm sincerely hoping that I do not have to add Cryptic and PWI to that list.

i think you could used to unbind them way back when but can you imagine how ridiculous this is?

founders/heros get really good companions by default for EVERY character they make. can you think how big of an advantage this is? its FREE AD (save the cost to unbind) and then they just sell that off on the auction house and get even more ridiculous amounts of AD.

there are good arguments about unbinding your level 30 cleric to give to your level 4 newbie char or a stone to an alt but in the grand scheme of things its pretty bad to be able to unbind.

a work around would be account bound so hopefully that could be added in

If this feature were to function, any companions that are account wide would be permanently bound to the receiving character.

Just like mounts that are account wide now. Those are bound to each character tho receives a mount on the account that made the purchase. So it is definitely possible for this to function properly and still have 'on every account' companions.

Don't want this to turn into another 20 page thread without an admin/mod giving us something useful here. So as it stands, this is a bug, if anyone else is experiencing this bug, please feel free to post in this thread until someone not only acknowledges it, but states (when and what) is going to be done about it.

    Someone needs to accept this is not right, not just that unbinding companion doesn't work but;

    - The system shouldn't be there if it's never going to be used.
    - The website, the ingame descriptions, the zen store need clearer notes on this.
    - Verging on false advertising, I know this is online but there are laws that govern miss-selling even here. If I walked into a shop and purchased something that, "didn't work as described" or/and was deemed faulty or functioned differently to it's (lack of) description I would be entitled to exchange/refund/complain etc..

What annoys me the most, out of all this, is the length of time and (lack of) treatment from people in a position to do something, be it a mod/admin or someone else, it takes to get anything done.

I can't help but notice that the mod has suddenly stopped talking in a thread he responded in. I guarantee you he's read it again to see what responses were made, but obviously saying such a fail comment like that embarassed him. Come on Mods, get it together. People pay CASH for this game, even if it's not mandatory. We CHOOSE to put money in and support your game (I've spent enough in the zen store between myself and my boyfriend for two founders packs by now!). Any money you get is coming from our pockets! If you can't even be bothered to do something other than canned responses then resign from your post. This demands a proper response. The option is there, people are spending money thinking they can make use of it. Maybe next time try actually playing the game you're moderating? The option is clearly there, there there IS a way to unbind companions, it's just broken. (Just to clarify; I found it when I made my Phoera Idle, then tried to send it to another character via the Mail option. It pops up "Unbinding Horus will cost 93,974 Astral Diamonds, Unbind Horus? I hit the button and my AD was lost, but Horus is still bound....)

What annoys ME the most is that this game has errors that make it unplayable or a complete rip off, and those are being pushed aside because, lo and behold! a chance to make more money is more important. I understand the devs NEED money to keep going, that's fine!! I don't mind spending money on this game at ALL, I swear it! In fact, I'm pretty content with every penny I've spent. I just hate that my GWF is unplayable in PVP. That Fire Catcher! event is still broken and the quest is non-completable. That some people seem to be immune to all control effects. That people can pay to win in PvP. That every issue I've sent a ticket for never gets a response/fix. That the only responses most people get is either Mod garbage or other players. That D/Cing is still an issue for so many people. That my Daily praying sometimes doesn't give me any Coins even though it's been a solid 24 hrs since the last time I prayed. That my stupid Waterdeep horse still isn't vendorable (lol). That I periodically have to relog while dying/transmuting because an X goes in the box for no reason. That you keep making non-purple companions. That YOU STILL CAN'T BUY TRAINING TOMES FOR COMPANIONS!!!! The list can go on and on, but ultimately I enjoy the game. I'm just starting to get sick of how long it seems to take for you guys to respond or give a <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font> about certain issues.

Im just starting an Alt, and was thinking to buy the Ioun Stone of Allure for Zen.
I have a bag of holding already, and the bag of holding is TRADABLE between characters.
I just empty it, mail it to myself and whoolaa, can pick it up with my low character.

Now, the item description is THE SAME for Zen purchasable companions as the bag, so I, obviously, thought it would be possible.
Why not just make it so that atleast Zen purchased companions can be tradable between your ACCOUNT Characters.

I would just now chip in 20 bucks and buy the Ioun stone for my new character, but reading this I realize it will be bound to him, something I do not want. And as such...I will stick to the free white one for leveling purpose.

The game devs just lost 20 bucks, I wonder how many more choose not to buy them and how much money you loose cause of greed.
You truly expect people to buy more then one Companion, of any sort that is?
If we could trade the companions between the same account, I think many would actually buy even a few, not just one.
This would have a profound increase in profit for the development team, but not understanding human behaviour is a big part.

Just fix it so we can trade it and me for one will buy one or two companions for zen, but in current state, I keep with the white ones for level purpose, no reason not too.

    Hey,

You can buy the companion and send it to your alt, as along as you've never bound the companion by equipping it.

But, no, your characters can't share a companion the way they can share a bag.
