I know that they wanted to concentrate on quality of the classes they had vs giving a ton of class options that were only 1/2 complete, but 5 just doesn't cut it.
In a game in which gameplay is designed around a 4 role system (Defender, Leader, Striker & Controller) you have to have at least two classes able to fill those roles in order to offer diversity to players. You MIGHT be able to get away with only having 6 classes instead of 8 if you make sure that 2 of them are viable to fill 2 roles a piece, but that would be stretching it. 5 Classes barely covers the bases. On top of that, making both defender classes fighters was a horrible choice.
I think that Cryptic should have concentrated on having 8 finished classes for live (which is now 3 days away):
Defenders: ProtectionPaladin, Great Weapon Fighter (AKA Weaponmaster from 4e)
Leaders: Devoted Cleric, Virtuous Bard
Strikers: Trickster Rogue, Scourge Warlock
Controllers: Control Wizard, Bow Hunter
This would have given many more choices for players and various playstyles for the characters even within their own role.
Now assuming the details we've heard regarding a Scourge Warlock and an Archer class (debate on if it's Ranger or not) maybe they will be close to the list above and only missing one additional leader class. But even in that scenario the Guardian Fighter really should have been a Protection Cleric just to cover more diversity in class selection and to make the majority of everyone favorite "core" classes for MMOs available.

Yes, two per each role would have been nice... I really want a Bard or a Druid. I've never ever liked wizards, and I don't really care for them in this game, either. If anything, give me a sorcerer instead. I don't want a warlock, either

well, they are still balancing 5 classes, it would be worse to them and to us if we had like 10 classes by now
in terms of what classes I would like to see, well, sorry D&D fans but I know nothing about the lore, but I would love to see a more melee/dps based cleric (not exactly paladin since they are often more tanker them dps) and I would love to see a one handed class for swords (a rappier class would be cool)
it is also worth mentioning that cryptic has some freedom to create things for the D&D world, so they can present new classes, but it is unlikely that they are thinking about that in the moment
